Italy Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Italy tours

It was a fast-paced itinerary because we covered a lot of ground between London and Rome, and our tour director made the experience more interesting through the optional experiences. I had been to Paris before but never had the opportunity to visit Notre Dame early in the morning when it wasn't so crowded so I was able to appreciate the interior so much more. I had also seen the Colosseum in Rome on two other occasions, but never had the opportunity to walk through the Forum.

We did a lot for the time we had! I loved it and I would not change a thing. I was thinking that you could offer more salads at the dinners, however people can always get a salad on their free time as well:) I really liked the vegetarian entrees. I can say now “Yay, I did it!” I’m so happy I got to see everything that I did see and experience it all! Thankyou so much:) Sincerely, Valerie

It was so much fun specially for us cause it was our first time with trafalgar. The guide director was incredibly helpful nice organized knowledgeable and very friendly! The driver was amazing and we felt very safe in the coach. My wife and I will definitely do another trip with trafalgar.

The trip was amazing!! Alissa was great - bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable. Leandro is a fantastic driver! In Perugia the weaving tour should be optional. It was a long day on the bus, the hotel had an amazing pool area which we were unable to enjoy because there wasnt enough time between getting there and then heading out to dinner in Spello. Didn’t love the gold or leather “experience” in Florence. Nothing learned about the craft…it was about showing their latest items for purchase. Would have rather used that time to go explore on my own instead. Perhaps there should levels of difficulty for your trips asking questions like “can you get on/off a bus in a timely manner” “ can you walk up 5 flights of stairs” “can you take a slight fall and not end up with broken bones” The target population in changing, younger more active couples are looking to and able to afford these types of trips. However the at times “slower than molasses” pace was frustrating and has led us to look for other companies that would better meet our requirements for exploring at a faster (normal) pace.

We had an amazing time. This was our first trip overseas and we enjoyed the fact everything was taken care of for us and the itinerary was so well planned out. We will definitely want to do another tour in the future.

Best time to travel to Italy

The best time to visit Italy is between the months of April and June as well as from September to October. The weather on the Italian Peninsula during these months is ideal for sightseeing tours, hiking, and exploring treasures stretching from Palermo to the lagoons of Venice. Traveling to Italy during July and August is avoided by many because of the summer heat and crowds, while the period between November to March sees the fewest visitors in big cities. However, these months coincide with the prime skiing season in the Alps, while southern parts of Italy, such as Sicily, remain relatively warm during this time of year.

Optimal duration to explore Italy

The duration of your vacation in Italy depends on the ground you want to cover. It is possible to enjoy a city break in Rome that lasts just three days, while one week in Italy will give you the chance to tick the country’s top sights off your bucket list, be it the countryside around Tuscany or the highlights of Florence. However, we recommend Italy trips of no less than ten days. This will allow you to take in the country’s iconic landmarks as well as explore off-the-beaten-track destinations, such as the medieval hamlet of Barbarano Romano, the Dolomites, and Mantua in the Lombardy region. In two weeks, you can add Sicily to your itinerary.

Best beaches in Italy

Italy's extensive coastline offers a plethora of stunning beaches. On the eastern coast, Marina di Vasto in Abruzzo boasts broad sandy shores lined with palm trees, ideal for family outings. Along the Amalfi Coast, Spiaggia del Fornillo in Positano provides a quieter alternative to busier spots, nestled amidst dramatic scenery. Near Rome, Anzio offers golden sands and historical significance, being a notable World War II site.

Packing essentials for a trip to Italy

When packing for Italy, prioritize comfort and practicality. Opt for comfortable walking shoes to navigate cobblestone streets. Dress in smart casual attire to blend with locals and ensure access to religious sites, where modest clothing is required. A versatile scarf can be useful for covering shoulders when needed. Pack weather-appropriate layers: lightweight fabrics for summer, and warmer clothing for cooler months. Don't forget essentials like a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. An umbrella and a waterproof jacket are advisable for unexpected rain. Remember to bring a Type C plug adapter for your electronics.

Sustainable travel practices when visiting Italy

Traveling sustainably in Italy is easy and rewarding. The country’s efficient and fast trains make it easy to opt out of flights or car rentals to reduce your carbon footprint. Support environmental initiatives like Legambiente, which promotes green policies across Italy. If booking through Bookmundi, your tour is already carbon-offset, and you can further offset your flights with airlines like Emirates.
