They organised a fabulous experience. The trip was seamless and the information provided was thorough. The accommodation was fabulous and the trip notes and app were informative and I felt well supported. I would highly recommend them.

A great week hiking in a beautiful area of Tuscany

Just back from hiking in Northern Tuscany's little known Garfagnana region. Varied walks and terrain with incredible views and a great sense of satisfaction. Really enjoyed the company of our group, the lovely views, pool and family welcome from our comfortable argriturismo and trying lots of traditional Italian food.

Walking in Tuscany

We have had many trips with Exodus over the years and I can honestly say this ranks as one of the best. The location at Agriturismo Braccicort was superb, with wonderful grounds, sustainable farming, good food provided by the lovely Italian family and rooms with views. The area is truly a best kept secret as we saw very few other walkers and yet we were amongst wonderful mountains with amazing views stretching for miles. Great bird life and loads of fabulous wild flowers.

A great trip, well worth doing. The first day is relatively hard but after that most days were very manageable of around 4 to 5 hours. In the most part the hotels were very conveniently located. The bag pick up and drop off worked perfectly and were waiting at each of our daily destinations without fail. The scenery was magnificent. Tuscany was great and the small villages that you passed through were picture postcard. Loved it.

We loved our walk through the Tuscan hills and gorgeous old towns. It was great to have our bags ready at each hotel and to not have to worry about where we were going to stay.

Fabulous trip in magnificent Tuscan sun for the entire trek and very few fellow travellers. We felt privileged to be there! Every element of their support for our self-guided walk worked extremely well - thank you!

Tuscany - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Travel Highlights

  • Wine lovers should head to Chianti, the birthplace of internationally renowned red wines.
  • Florence’s Galleria degli Uffizi is home to the biggest collection of renaissance art in the world. Even the Palazzo that houses the galleria is a masterpiece.
  • An iconic building of Tuscany is Florence’s Duomo, which took nearly 150 years to build.
  • The infamous Leaning Tower of Pisa needs no explanation, but does need to be witnessed.
  • The beaches of Viareggio are within an hour of Florence, Pisa, Livorno and Lucca.
  • Drive through the Crete Senesi and visit the renaissance city of Pienza.

Travel Tips

  • Driving is a great way to explore Tuscany, but beware of the lax approach to road rules in Italy.
  • The Firenze Card is a 72 hour tourist card for Florence covering attractions, public transport and even lets you skip queues.
  • Get ready to walk in Florence as most of the historic center is off-limits to cars, but the city is smaller than expected and very pedestrian friendly.
  • The markets of Tuscany offer some of the best places to shop. Leather goods and souvenirs are a fraction of the price than what you’ll find in a boutique.
