What a fantastic week! The hiking is varied and you will pass through all those wonderful towns and villages that you have dreamt of visiting. The scenery just gets better and better and the highlight for me was the iconic ‘Path of the Gods’. That said every day had something to offer and we had free time to wonder, shop and enjoy a drink or ice-cream. The local village near to the farm also has a lovely vibe and there are bars, restaurants to enjoy. Which we did! Nigel our Guide was excellent. He knew every step of the routes and was spot on when arranging transport links which was key. His sense of humour really brought the group together and he kept us all safe and explained in detail the itinerary for each day. What a week and what a group. I highly recommend this adventure!

Superb holiday, excellent itinerary, so many wonderful sights to see. The holiday ran like clockwork not a moment was wasted, our Guide Antonio had a fantastic knowledge of the history of Sicily and his passion was infectious. Very good Group and I think that everyone had a fantastic holiday.

Fascinating tour with great variety of archaeological sites and Baroque architecture. Our guide, Antonio, was very informative and looked after us extremely well. The planning was excellent and the accommodation very comfortable and well sited.

An in depth journey through Sicily's layered history and stunning terrain. From Phonecians to Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs, towns rose and fell leaving spectacular ruins. The tour picks up on the islands Norman heritage and later development of baroque architecture.

Trip was highly enjoyable. Great hiking trails with amazing views. We got opportunities to enjoy some free time also. Loved the different villages we got to experience along the way. A very enjoyable and interesting tour. Notwithstanding the half day visit to Livorno, which was somewhat uninspiring, the itinerary was well thought out, and fully met our expectations. We saw wonderful sights, ate delicious food, and drank lovely wines in the company of a great group of fellow travellers. The tour leader Antongiulio, was a charming young man, with a great sense of humour, who readily shared his vast knowledge on the many places that we visited. Mention must also be made to our driver, Stephane who safely drove us throughout most of the tour. Grazie Antongiulio and Stephane.

Travel Tips for Food Tours in Italy

  • Avoid restaurants near major tourist attractions and those with massive laminated menu boards, many languages, or food images.
  • It's best to eat at the same time as the locals do since this is when the restaurant is at its liveliest and busiest. Keep in mind that many restaurants shut in the middle of the day.
  • Make reservations for lunch or dinner whenever possible to guarantee availability. Because of the popularity of food tours in Italy, some places have long waiting lists.
  • Don't forget the Sunday lunch! It's a centuries-old tradition in Italy, and most likely, you’ll find yourself surrounded by Italian families.
  • If you love pizza, make sure to try a wood-fired pizza. Often, these pizzas are only made at night and in smaller towns.
  • Try to have some cash on hand - not all restaurants accept card payments, so it's best to be prepared. Tipping isn't expected in Italy, but it must be paid in cash if you wish to leave a small tip.
  • You have to pay for the water in the restaurants and bars - it costs a few euros and can be either frizzante (sparkling) or naturale (still).
  • The best time to visit Italy for a food tour is during spring and autumn when the temperatures are milder.
