Spain Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Spain tours

Anonymous | Traveled in June

This tour is easy to moderate paced compared to our prior insight tour. There is a lot of walking over uneven surfaces so be mindful if you have trouble with this. Cem was a personable and funny guide who made the tour very enjoyable. He had a good sense of balance when it came time to brief us on some of the sites, and giving us time and quiet to rest. Airport transfers were smooth and without issues. Attractions and special events (optional experiences) were well worth it. We prefer less time in extremely crowded touristy locations (mostly to hunt for souvenirs and food), and more time in less crowded and locally authentic places for dining which we enjoyed in Seville. The Flamenco Dance optional experience was so much fun. Would highly recommend that to everyone.

What an amazing week, filled with challenging hikes (well, challenging for me) and gorgeous scenery everywhere. JuanJo, our guide and fearless leader, took such good care of us, helping fix hiking poles, patch blisters and arranging for alternate transport when some of us needed a break from hiking for an afternoon here or there. The food was hearty (and filling!) and featured local dishes and produce --and the wine flowed freely too. The mid-week trip to Potes was a nice change of scene, with the opportunity to wander around the town on our own and then meet up for dinner afterwards. JuanJo did a wonderful job of conveying the magic of the region -- the trip is highly recommended! Just make sure your boots fit well and you're in decent shape -- this is not just an easy walking holiday! But it's absolutely worth it.

The guide was excellent, very experienced and knowledgeable. The hotel was very good and food was delicious and full of local produce and specialities. The daily hikes/ walks were stunningly beautiful. Some of the hikes were remote and it felt as if we were the only hikers, which was very special!

I would highly recommend this trip. The Picos are stunning and the daily hikes were varied and interesting. I came away with some fantastic walking and a good sense of how the people of the region lived, both now and in the past. We had unreasonably hot weather which helped with views but made the walking a little harder than anticpiated - our guide was brilliant in making sure people were managing and had the right support. The hotel is in a lovely little village, run by the guides family and very comfortable. Food was good and extremly plentiful!

I booked my trip very last minute. It was an amazing experience that left me wanting more. Picos de Europa is unique and very special. The guide was incredibly organised, took us on fantastic hikes, was very knowledgeable, his love for the land and the region made the experience even more special, his personal stories and visits to local cheers makers added another dimension to the experience , the wildflowers…. mind blowing! The views from almost everywhere, even the hotel, were spectacular, the food was amazing, delicious and plentiful (I am vegan and they made every effort to accommodate me), the family run hotel was a beautiful and watching them all work in concert with each other was very heart warming. I definitely plan to visit Sotres and Picos again!

The itinerary was excellent and included many of Spain and Portugal's notable cities. I learned a great deal about the history of the two countries, their struggles against the Moors, Spain and Portugal's autocratic leaders and their affect on the countries. Everything we saw was then through that lens. Some notable highlights of the tour included a dinner with singing waiters and waitresses in Madrid, our visit to the walled city of Toledo including the impressive Toledo Cathedral, the Fado evening dinner in Lisbon, and the tours of architectural, historical, and cultural sites like the Roman Aquaducts in Segovia, the visit to Gibraltar, the impressive Alhambra Palace in Granada, The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, and the Guell Park in Barcelona. Seeing the towering Sagara Familia, with its sculptures built into its whimsical structure and its beautiful stained glass, lifted my soul! While cathedrals are monuments to history and contain arts and treasures, a wider variety of sites to visit would have been welcomed, such as the Royal Palace and Retiro Park in Madrid, a high quality wine tasting tour featuring highly rates vineyards producing Rioja or Ribera wines, visits to the buildings that make up the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia (such as the highly regarded Aquarium), and the famous Mosque/Cathedral of Cordoba].
