If you’re looking for some unique nightlife, look no further than the capital of Hungary! Budapest features some awesome ruin bars, best enjoyed as part of a bar crawl. Looking for something a bit more relaxing? Wine lovers can visit nearby Etyek for some excellent food and wine tours, or head to the gorgeous spa town of Hévíz for a weekend of pure bliss.

Honest insights from past guests on our Hungary tours

Wonderful to have 3 nights in each city. Perfect mixture of art, culture, history and present day. Local specialists were informed, interesting and fun. This trip fulfilled my expectations and beyond. Check out Prague, Vienna and Budapest videos @themargaretmix

Our whole family enjoyed this trip- 2 daughters age 27 and 30, and me and my husband. It was a perfect trip for the four of us as we could pick and choose what excursions we were interested in, what our young adults wanted to do separate from me and my husband.. The accommodations were excellent. The docents were excellent. They intertwined history, culture and architecture beautifully.. It’s also very clean in Eastern Europe -no Litter anywhere in Prague, Budapest and Vienna! Our tour guides were fantastic as well- knowledgeable, polite, informative, letting us know when we need to be aware at what time. I give this to a 10.

This is an ambitious and enriching tour itinerary, including wonderful historic sites, religious locations, interesting local experts, and up-close-and-personal experiences with local folks. It gave me a chance to see, in person, places and things I'd only previously heard about on the evening news. My suggestion: GO!

There's a nice balance of down time to explore on your own and having guided tours. The places we visited were magnificent and the local experts really knew their history and enjoyed sharing their knowledge about their home with us The accommodations were top notch!

Loved the tours but also the flexibility if you didn’t want to do some tours. Loved the 2 days in between with free time It was a more relaxed experience

This trip was amazing! Our tour guide was absolutely incredible in giving us all of the information we needed. The bus drives were planned out well so we were never on them for too long before stopping. I would've liked to have more time in Split, but other than that, everything was the perfect amount of time and I would highly recommend this trip.

Hungary Tours - Highlights and Travel Trips

Hungary is popular for its spa culture with its massive number of thermal water springs all over the country, easily accessible public baths and renowned grand spas like Gellért Baths in Budapest. The tagline for tourism in Hungary is “A love for life!” which explains the overall vibe of the country with its fine food, wine, diversity of the culture and the natural beauty. For history enthusiasts, this country is a treasure of resources, and they expose their knowledge generously to the tourists in their museums. Popular tourist attractions in the country consist of the wonder that is the Budapest Chain Bridge, The Great Synagogue, Buda Castle, Place of Arts and the Hungarian Parliament Building known for its unique architecture.

Situated in the middle of the continent surrounded by 7 other countries, Hungary is considered to be one of the oldest countries in Europe. It is the birth land of the Rubik’s cube and has produced many mathematicians to the world. Budapest, the capital city is picturesque with the river Danube flowing in the middle allowing 15 bridges to majestically connect the two parts of the city.

Tour Highlights

  • Learn about Hungarian folklore at Hortobágy National Park
  • Soak in the famous Széchenyi thermal baths
  • Explore the fantastical grounds of Bory Castle in Székesfehérvár
  • Have a drink in the ruin pubs of Budapest

Travel Tips

  • You will be immediately identified as a tourist if you pronounce the capital city’s name as “boo-da-pest”. The correct pronunciation is “boo-da-pesht”.
  • Be sure to pack a swimsuit on your trip to Hungary so you can take advantage of the country’s 150+ thermal baths.
  • Even though Hungary is part of the European Union, it uses its own currency: the Hungarian forint. Some shops and tourist destinations will accept your euros, but it’s always best to carry the local currency.
  • Never refuse a shot of Pálinka. The fruit brandy, often homemade, is said to have healing properties and can cure all ails, from headaches to nerves.
  • Don’t clink beer glasses together while in Hungary. It is said that the Austrians celebrated their win of the 1848-49 war of independence by clinking their beer glasses. The Hungarians vowed not to do so for 150 years, and the tradition remains today. It’s fine to ‘cheers’ with other beverages, however.
