Croatia in January: Weather, Tips and More
January is the coldest month of the year to visit Croatia and you will get great bargains on hotels as it is a low tourist season. Does it snow in Croatia in winter? You bet it does! And the ski season is in full swing in January. Dig into the history of urban centers like Dubrovnik and Split, admire the stark beauty of frozen lakes at Plitvice Lakes National Park, and enjoy winter festivals and seasonal markets that spring up across the country during your stay in Croatia in January.

Croatia in February: Weather, Carnivals and More!
February is the last winter month in Croatia. The weather is still chilly, but the days are reasonably long. Being the off-tourist season, you will get great deals on hotels if you visit Croatia in February. Soak in the beautiful Adriatic views minus the tourist crowds, head to Platak for a thrilling ski adventure, enjoy the infectious energy of carnivals, and visit the lovely coastal town of Trogir, a Unesco World Heritage site. Croatia in winter makes for an excellent destination.
Croatia in March: Weather, Travel Tips & More!
Croatia in March: Weather, Travel Tips & More!
Thinking about visiting Croatia without spending a fortune? Then March is your best bet. Croatia in March is relatively free of crowds and as a result, hotel prices are also low. As the month is the bridge between winter and spring, many ferry routes and resorts are not open yet and the weather is not quite warm enough for sunbathing and sea-dipping. But because of these very factors, you can enjoy a relatively quiet and affordable vacation.

Croatia Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Croatia tours

Shelley | Traveled in July

I appreciated the pace of the tour, spending two nights in the majority of locations and three at Dubrovnik. The late start mornings were also appreciated. We visited all the major areas I wanted to except for Bled in Slovenia. Staying on the islands of Hvar and Korcula was an added bonus. Even the free days were good because our hotels were situated in areas where we could easily explore historical areas on our own if we wished.

Very excellent itinerary as all the places are stunning and have their own distinct charm and history, but perhaps Lake Bled should have been included and less time in Zagreb.

Great tour but exhausting in 100+ temperatures. Many steep hills on crumbling stone walkways. Not good for people not in shape to do the many walks in caves, national parks, and uphill walks in route to restaurants & sights. Hotels were good & located in convenient locations. Insight bus was great & comfortable but not able to charge cell phones on bus this time.

Weather was extremely hot and removed 2 of the hikes. Relief to Me but not all of the group. We got a sunset cruise instead which was brilliant. Put that on the itinerary anyway. It meant we had more downtime than expected but I enjoyed the break. Some felt cheated. I knew it would have been too hard for us but those fitter and keener still wanted to do more. It’s a bit of a balance but I loved all of it.

We can’t stop telling our friends about our time in Croatia. The tour director went above and beyond with a great sense of humor and kindness. The accommodations were lovely. The whole experience especially because of our sweet fellow travelers was a pleasure!

Just enough guided to get to know the areas and learn. The rest of the time you can relax and explore. The hotels were perfect as were the meals.

Croatia Tours - Highlights and Travel Trips

Croatia is situated along the southeastern edge of Europe; one end faces the Adriatic Sea and the other is adorned with almighty mountains, offering a variety of experiences to travelers. Croatia has glitz and glamour in its culture and a certain mystery and peacefulness as well; while you can experience the coldest winters and the hottest summers in Croatia, the sea softens all the seasons to merge smoothly together towards the coastal end.

For travelers looking for a Europe experience but can afford to travel to only one country, Croatia is an excellent choice since it is so diverse. Just the diversity of geography in Croatia is one of the many reasons to consider Croatia as your next destination. Croatians are very hospitable and friendly people, and they cook simple and delicious food from the freshest ingredients they get from both land and the sea. Cities like Split and Pula boast Roman architectural wonders that stand in the same league as those in Italy and Turkey. Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, the stunning Plitvice Lakes, Pula Arena and Euphrasian Basilica are some of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.

Tour Highlights

  • Explore the history of Dubrovnik
  • Hike the mountains of Northern Velebit National Park
  • Shop for fresh produce at the Dolac Market in Zagreb
  • Walk around Trogir’s St. Lawrence (St. Lovro) Cathedral
  • Take the ferry to Lokrum Island
  • Drink your way through Iločki Podrumi, one of Croatia’s oldest wine cellars
  • Visit the ‘Kingdom of Feštini’ cave in Istria

Travel Tips

  • Don’t make the mistake of sticking to Dubrovnik! Croatia has many beautiful towns and islands to visit.
  • Consider your transportation options. Croatian drivers can be aggressive and some coastal roads don’t use barriers. Consider opting for public transit instead of renting a car. While train links don’t cover the entire country, buses are a reliable option.
  • If traveling from another European country, get ready to carry multiple currencies. Croatia is part of the European Union but continues to use its own currency: the Croatian Kuna.
  • Croatia is perfect for a beach holiday but be sure to pack a pair of water shoes as the coasts are quite rocky.
  • If you decide to travel off-the-beaten-path, keep a keen eye out for unexploded minefields leftover from Croatia’s war in the early 1990s.
  • Never raise your thumb, index finger, and middle finger together, even when raising your hand to order a round of drinks at the bar. This is a sign of Serbian nationalism and is considered taboo in Croatia.

Croatia has seasonal weather so make sure you check up on the best time to visit Croatia before planning your tour. And if you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Croatia, do check out our Croatia Travel Guide for more information.
