Best Time to Visit Greece
Best Time to Visit Greece
It’s no mystery that Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. After all, it was the seat of power and knowledge for millennia, and some of that charm still permeates its cobbled streets. If you are not too crazy about the culture and the stunning architecture, you don’t have to worry – there is plenty of natural beauty to go around as well, from rolling hills to sparkling blue seas. The best time to visit Greece depends on your preferences, including weather, crowd levels, activities, and budget. This guide will walk you through the offerings of each season, helping you make an informed choice before you embark on your trip to Greece.
Greece in January: Weather, Tips & More
Greece in January: Weather, Tips & More
Greece conjures the image of sunny coasts, azure waters, and sailboats gliding under a radiant sun. However, few are aware that the country is a lovely place to visit almost throughout the year, including in the winter when its mountains are decked in white and peaks glisten in the morning sun.The weather in Greece in January can get a little unpredictable, with parts of the country receiving snow. Plus, this is the coldest month in the country, and traveling to Greece at this time of the year can limit your travel options if you plan to visit its islands, since finding transport could be difficult (though not impossible). That being said, this is the time to take full advantage of low-season rates and pack some splendid destinations in your itinerary — from the atmospheric Old Town of Rhodes to Athens with its ancient architecture and Byzantine churches.
Greece in February: Weather, Skiing and More!
Greece in February: Weather, Skiing and More!
Greece in February might not be suitable for the perfect Instagram post. The sky is overcast, the weather chilly with frequent bouts of rain, and snow can be seen as far down south as Peloponnese and Crete. But do not disapprove of the destination just yet! Greece in February is a beacon for budget travelers who are excited by out-of-the-box experiences. Now is the time for a crowd-free cultural exploration of Athens and to indulge in the gastronomic capital of Thessaloniki. While snow seekers can ski down the intimidating slopes of Mount Parnassus, sun-seekers can still find some warmth and relief in the southern islands of Rhodes and Crete. Safe to say, there are plenty of things to do and places to visit when on a trip to Greece regardless of during which month you are visiting.
Greece in March: Weather, Beaches and More!
Greece in March: Weather, Beaches and More!
Touring Greece in March comes with many perks. It is the end of winter, and although visitor numbers start to increase, the country is not yet crowded. The weather begins warming up this month and you can expect several mild sunny days during your stay in the country. Discover the highlights of the country like the Acropolis of Athens and Delphi at your own pace, without the distraction that comes with tour groups all around. The weather in Greece in March is also ideal for an island getaway, especially if you plan to visit popular places like Santorini and Mykonos, which travelers inundate during the peak summer season.

Honest insights from past guests on our Greece tours

It was a great vacation and it was perfect that we got to stay 3 days in each island which gave us time to explore and enjoy Athens , Santorini and Mykonos . We had a great time in all the Santorini optional tours but it could have been better also if there is an included tour. Our travel director was amazing and very helpful. I would definitely book more group travels with Trafalgar.

Magnificent captain and tour leader, Thanos. Knowledgable, compassionate and experienced. Particularly, the dinner arrangements that Thanos made every evening were a major asset, ensuring us the best restaurant experience due to his extensive local knowledge and personal connections. Weather a bit rough due to strong wind, which made a small change of route necessary, but the boat was stable and comfortable even then.

The 5-star rating is for our trip staff. , our travel director, and , our driver, performed their duties with grace, humor, and the utmost professionalism. Winding mountain roads usually terrify me. With at the wheel, I felt comfortable and calm the entire time on the coach. We couldn't have asked for a better travel director than . He is kind, efficient, and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Greece and its culture. He kept our large group of 48 travelers engaged throughout the tour. When necessary - like when the heat wave proved too intense - he accommodated individuals' needs and modified the schedule. is truly a gem and I hope we're lucky enough to travel with him in the future. We had outstanding local specialists as well, though I'd like to give special recognition to (Athens/Acropolis/Acropolis Museum)(Ancient Theatre at the Asklepieion of Epidaurus)(Ancient Olympia), and (Delphi). Their passion, experience, expertise, and ability to captivate and entertain a crowd shone through. Not to mention that they all have great speaking voices, which kept us all engaged in the stories. In general, I expected far better food than what we experienced. While I understand that it's challenging to find restaurants in the more remote locations that can accommodate large groups, some of the food was poor quality, especially at the lunch spots. Given the online reviews of some of the dining venues, I don't think I'm alone in that view. Moreover, we had to pay out-of-pocket for some of those meals. I wish I could offer a solution. Maybe stopping in different towns with a few more restaurants to choose from and allowing travelers to select their own lunch spot. Or even offering sack lunches at stopping at a park to eat. On the upside, the meals at To Kaplani, Magna Grecia, Villa Symposium, Touris Club, and the Divani Caravel breakfast buffet were excellent. Despite some uneven air conditioning during a serious (>100degF) heat wave, the hotels were good. I'd certainly stay at them again if we return to some of the cities we visited on this trip.

The itinerary exceeded my expectations. Meteora Greece is the most beautiful and peaceful place I can imagine. Delphi and Olympia tied for 2nd and their beauty as unexpected. Enjoyed the history. The remaining places including Athens had so much history. The guides were excellent. Hotels were great. No complaints at all. We are still thinking and talking about Greece

Beautiful country, fabulous history with top notch local experts, and an amazing travel director made the journey amazing. However, lots of uneven stairs and climbing to reach the sites. Doable, but be prepared.

I really enjoyed the busy pace of this agenda with new sites each day. Our Travel Director was perfect; friendly, easy going, happy, professional, funny, calm, very likeable. Our travel group couldn’t have been better…respectful of each other, always on time, no one held up the group. Even though the temperatures averaged 36C - 40C each day there was plenty of shade to dip into while listening to the local guides with one exception, I will say, the local guide atop the Acropolis got lost in history way too long, almost 30 minutes in one scorching hot spot, yet, the beauty of being able to wander off for photos using the whisperer was fantastic. Food was excellent, hotels were very good. Overall I really enjoyed this trip. A good mix of singles and couples with a terrific sense of humour. A wonderful balance…maybe luck of the draw. The return transfer to the airport checkin counter was fantastic. The WhatsApp communication and follow up reminders each night from our Travel Director was very much appreciated. Well done Trafalgar. The attention to detail was right on. Nice variety of archeological sites, museums, shopping time as well as coastal views.
