The hotels were somewhat hit and miss - I think the Novotel in Constantine was the worst. Rochdi is a great tour guide - a wealth of knowledge that he delivers with ease and clarity. You don't get much time in Algiers on the tour - we were fortunate in a late night flight back on the final day so had an extra day in the city. We could have done with one more day in Algiers to really explore the Kasbah and the port and other bits. Would have also liked more mosques in the itinerary. We went independently to Djamaa el Djazair and it would have been 10x more efficient and valuable had it been in the company of our tour leader. Should be added to the itinerary in my opinion. Highlights were Constantine, Timgad, and Djemila.

Well thought out itinerary, good hotels, excellent transport, amazing tour leader. The only below par element for me was the choice of evening restaurants which were mostly fast food cheap outlets .

Rochdi was exceptional — truly the best guide I’ve ever had. He was knowledgeable, personable, and professional throughout the trip. The itinerary and accommodations met expectations. The Algerian visa application process, however, was extremely stressful. I had to fly on short notice to Washington, D.C. a day early to obtain a corrected visa because the Visa on Arrival issued to me listed the wrong birth year. Explore’s communication during this period could have been stronger. I was advised that the incorrect VOA probably wouldn’t cause problems, which could have resulted in me beginning the trip only to be denied entry at the Algerian border or denied boarding at Denver, Dulles, or Rome airport checkpoints. Despite this, I continue to appreciate Explore’s small group sizes, excellent professional guides, and wide range of itineraries.
