The host family was lovely, accommodating and friendly. Each meal was delicious and served with warmth and smiles. Our guide, Pete Meyers, was knowledgeable confident and very conscientious. All of our 16 tour members had his attention and focus throughout the week. The areas of the hikes and visits were all stunning and filled with beautiful views, experiences and food!

This walking tour of the Amalfi coast was full of delights! Our local tour guide Matteo was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He was adept at making sure everyone in our group was well taken care of and accomodated no matter what level of ability during the walks, The scenary was fantastic and the food and culture we experienced were unforgetable. This was by far the best guided tour I have ever experienced. One of the best experiences was sharing a delicious meal in a local family farmhouse. I highly recommend this tour!

Our hike leader was the best - knowledgeable and enjoyable to hike with. He shared stories and about the local history and geography. I would recommend this 7 day walking trip on the Amalfi to anyone who enjoys mixing hiking and cultural experiences.

A friend recommended Explore. The Amalfi coast walk was my first trip as a solo traveler with a small group of people I did not know beforehand. My first guided trip. Explore's description was clear and accurate, from the meals we would have to the place we would stay to the distances we would walk. Explore was great about reminding us what we had to do before we went. The whole trip was a joy. Our guide told us there would be no problems, and any problems were his problems, not ours. Everything worked beautifully--the transfer from Naples, the buses to get us to destinations in the morning and to the farm in the evening. The farm where we stayed high above the Amalfi coast was beautiful, with glorious sunrises and sunsets we could see from our balcony. The food the family prepared was delicious, and we enjoyed eating together in the big dining room. The walks were steeply up and down, often on stone paths carved into the hillsides over centuries. Throughout, we could enjoy views of the villages and the sea. Our guide described the natural and human history of the area, pointing out landscape features to us. Though the walks were steep, we had plenty of time to stop in a village for a cool drink, a coffee, or a gelato. A wonderful trip.

Great holiday, with a very friendly bunch from all around the World. The Guide Pete was very informative & good fun and the family who run the farm were all lovely & helpful. Highly recommended.

Craig | Traveled in November

Great experience! Our guide, Pete was fantastic. He had great detailed information about the area and all the history. It was reassuring to see how much he was concerned about the group's safety. Food was very rustic, plentiful and delicious. Great location to explore the area from.

Planning tips for solo travelers to Italy

Safest destinations in Italy for single travelers

Across Italy, single adventurers—regardless of gender, age or identity—can explore freely. For women traveling alone, destinations across Italy are welcoming and safe, thanks to low violent-crime rates, well-lit public spaces, and reliable policing. Historic centers like Florence and Bologna combine charming cobblestone alleys with English signposts, efficient train networks, and staffed tourist offices that ease language barriers and boost confidence for first-time visitors. Even smaller gems such as Verona offer a tranquil, walkable layout and friendly locals, making solo strolls both secure and rewarding.

LGBTQ+ travelers find warm welcomes in Italy’s major cities. Rome boasts vibrant queer districts—San Lorenzo and Pigneto—alongside cultural landmarks and Pride events that foster inclusion. In Milan’s Porta Venezia, rainbow flags flutter over bars and cafes, reflecting the city’s progressive spirit, while Tuscany’s towns like Siena and Florence host LGBTQ+-friendly B&Bs and guided tours.

Cost of traveling to Italy alone

Traveling independently in Italy can cost as little as USD 90 per day for budget-minded explorers to USD 600 per day in luxury accommodations. Over 7–10 day holidays can run anywhere between USD 900 to USD 4,500+ (flights excluded), depending on whether you’re looking for a budget or luxury tour in Italy. At Bookmundi, our Italy solo tours start at USD 65 per person per day, including hotels, group transport, expert guides, selected meals, but more often tours are offered from USD 120 per day and up. If you are looking for a single room, expect a supplement on tour prices.
