Best Time to Visit Greece
Best Time to Visit Greece
It’s no mystery that Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. After all, it was the seat of power and knowledge for millennia, and some of that charm still permeates its cobbled streets. If you are not too crazy about the culture and the stunning architecture, you don’t have to worry – there is plenty of natural beauty to go around as well, from rolling hills to sparkling blue seas. The best time to visit Greece depends on your preferences, including weather, crowd levels, activities, and budget. This guide will walk you through the offerings of each season, helping you make an informed choice before you embark on your trip to Greece.
Greece in January: Weather, Tips & More
Greece in January: Weather, Tips & More
Greece conjures the image of sunny coasts, azure waters, and sailboats gliding under a radiant sun. However, few are aware that the country is a lovely place to visit almost throughout the year, including in the winter when its mountains are decked in white and peaks glisten in the morning sun.The weather in Greece in January can get a little unpredictable, with parts of the country receiving snow. Plus, this is the coldest month in the country, and traveling to Greece at this time of the year can limit your travel options if you plan to visit its islands, since finding transport could be difficult (though not impossible). That being said, this is the time to take full advantage of low-season rates and pack some splendid destinations in your itinerary — from the atmospheric Old Town of Rhodes to Athens with its ancient architecture and Byzantine churches.
Greece in February: Weather, Skiing and More!
Greece in February: Weather, Skiing and More!
Greece in February might not be suitable for the perfect Instagram post. The sky is overcast, the weather chilly with frequent bouts of rain, and snow can be seen as far down south as Peloponnese and Crete. But do not disapprove of the destination just yet! Greece in February is a beacon for budget travelers who are excited by out-of-the-box experiences. Now is the time for a crowd-free cultural exploration of Athens and to indulge in the gastronomic capital of Thessaloniki. While snow seekers can ski down the intimidating slopes of Mount Parnassus, sun-seekers can still find some warmth and relief in the southern islands of Rhodes and Crete. Safe to say, there are plenty of things to do and places to visit when on a trip to Greece regardless of during which month you are visiting.
Greece in March: Weather, Beaches and More!
Greece in March: Weather, Beaches and More!
Touring Greece in March comes with many perks. It is the end of winter, and although visitor numbers start to increase, the country is not yet crowded. The weather begins warming up this month and you can expect several mild sunny days during your stay in the country. Discover the highlights of the country like the Acropolis of Athens and Delphi at your own pace, without the distraction that comes with tour groups all around. The weather in Greece in March is also ideal for an island getaway, especially if you plan to visit popular places like Santorini and Mykonos, which travelers inundate during the peak summer season.

Greece Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Greece tours

Paul J. | Traveled in October

The tour was first class from start to finish including the transportation to and from the airports, the tour manager, bus driver and the accommodations. Our tour manager shared so much information about the Greek culture and its history. He also guided us to the best places to eat. Besides seeing important sights like the Parthenon, the Acropolis, the Akrotiri Museum and the Parliament building, I highly recommend the Mykonos Farmer as one of your excursions.

Tour of Acropolis was excellent but felt that there were other sites in Athens which should have been included. The Natiional Archaelogy Museum is a treasure and should have been a basis for all of the sites we visited all over Greece.. It was a wekl-planned itinerary which allowed us to see a wealth of famous historical sites as well as showing us some contemporary “slices of life”. Good tour director, site guides and driver as well as wuality a commodations, coach and meals.

This trip was suggested to me by a friend, but as an 83 year-old who ‘peaked’ more than 10 years ago I had some reservations about going on it. However, my fears were put to rest when I saw that the same hotel was used before and after the most challenging stage – the 14-mile final stretch of the northern trail, including the crossing of Mount Pantokrater. But in the event, although the terrain is hilly with some steep climbs I didn’t find any of the walking particularly difficult. It helped that a lot of the journey was on shady woodland tracks. Mt Pantokrator was quite an easy climb, the only challenge being the length of the day and the distance. Not having visited Corfu before I found it a fascinating place, and have many vivid memories of the trip. We were fortunate to have, in Spiros, a leader who was very knowledgeable about local history, politics and wildlife. He worked very hard to make the holiday enjoyable for us, including leading us on a beautiful coastal walk to Kassiopi on the free day. I only wish I had discovered the island earlier so that I could walk the southern section as well.

The tour was indeed excellent. My favorite experiences were Philippi-- between the river and the church and the archaeological site, an incredible place!-- Ephesus, for the most amazing archeological site ever!-- and Meteora-- what a combination of geographical features and amazing monasteries. Having said that, Ephesus would be even better if you traded Mary's house for the Terrace Houses.

Having never been to Greece, the Collette tour allowed us to enjoy an overview of Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. The tour provided experiences that included both past and present Greece-from the Acropolis in Athens to local culture and food experiences on the islands. Opportunities to be more adventurous were available. One regret is museums were not a defined inclusion of the tour, and we did not have an opportunity to access them on our own-particularly the museum near the Acropolis. Two hotels were changed from what was in our brochure, which was a bit disappointing because of the locations of the newly chosen hotels, but all accommodations were very nice.

This was the second time we had been on the trip because we had enjoyed it so much the first time (May 2012). The itinerary was very similar but having a 'local' tour leader made the experience even better. Peter was able to provide background information and recommend places for eating, additional excursions, etc. He was particularly good at helping the group to 'gel' with his great sense of humour and keeping us engaged on long bus journeys. The official guides at sites such as Olympia, Mycenae and the Acropolis were also excellent, although we would have liked a little more time to explore freely at a couple of places, e.g. Delphi. We are aware that the itinerary was busy, however, and could not accommodate everything! Overall, it was an excellent tour which we would definitely recommend.
