La Gomera what a beautiful island, the landscape, the people, the food. Where in Europe can you still go and not meet loads of English tourists - La Gomera. Where can you go and not lock the doors or even leave the door open all night - La Gomara Where can you go and still find all the menus still in the native language - La Gomera. Around every corner there is another super view. The cloud forest is unique. Every one you meet is friendly and helpful. The hikes are hard work we have walked 90miles in 10 day equivalent in altitude gains of walking up and down Snowden 4 times up and down Ben Nevis once and then down Ben Nevis again, but VERY rewarding.
Love our tour manager, he made it fun & was very informative about the places we were going. Appreciated seeing off the beaten path areas. Getting to experience the culture of a Fado meal, having a meal in the home of local family, cooked by them! Doing part of the Camino trail and day trip to France were such great experiences for us. We loved our trip.
We had a great time on our walk. Everything went as described, including detailed information pre-tour, accomodation and luggage transfers. The Camino Norte was phenomenally beautiful although was harder physically than we had expected. It was our first multi-day trek and the more training you can do pre-trip (especially hills) the better. Day 2 was particularly hard but then your body adjusts and you get into a rhythm of the day. We are already planning our next trek.
La Gomera is a stunning island with an amazing variety of landscapes and stunning views. Our experience felt very authentic and we enjoyed the local hospitality. The hiking was enjoyable but tough. I would certainly rate some of the ascents and descents as challenging rather than moderate. The terrain is often rocky but it is the areas with small stones, particularly on the downhill that can lead one to be on their feet one minute and on the ground the next! It can be very slippery with all the loose gravel and stones and needs solid concentration! In spite of this we enjoyed the trip very much and would heartily recommend visiting La Gomera.
I would consider this a pretty in-depth visit to Portugal and Spain. Loved all that I learned about food and wine and culture. I loved that we went to some not as well known parts of Spain such as the Rioja Valley. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip.
The tour was a great balance of included activities and free time. It was a very delicious introduction to the flavors of Portugal and Spain - the traditional foods, the wine, the culture. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patient. The lodgings were very-well located for exploring each of the cities. Highly, highly recommend!
