A Stunning Trip

I've wanted to do this hike for so long and it really didn't disappoint. The days were long, steep and tough from the very first day to the last but the scenery was just stunning. I loved crossing from one country to the next, seeing the landscape change from alpine cliff to meadow, to glacial valley. It was beautiful. It is full on so get some hill training in but this really was beautiful.

This is a really beautiful hike, and challenging at times. Choosing the guided hike was great for us, as we really enjoyed the company of the group we were in and it made the trip much more social and enjoyable. Our guide Fred was excellent; considerate of the group level of fitness, and colourful commentary of the history of Mont Blanc and the climbers that have challenged the Alps. He also knew the owners and operators of the Refuges and that made things smoother and more enjoyable for sure. Be prepared for cold showers in some places though!

The trip was well organised from the start. The app was excellent and provided all the information that was needed as well as getting us safely from one place to another. The communication with the company was also very good, especially in the planning stages where we amended some of the stays and distances travelled. The variety of accommodation places was interesting and each stay had its own character. Breakfasts did vary a lot, some much better than others.

This was an lovely wander from Vineyard to château to hilly forest and medieval village and small town. A combination of relaxation, good walks and moderate challenge. The accommodation was comfortable and welcoming.

I followed the instructions regarding labeling my luggage precisely but even so my bag still didn’t show up on the first day. Travel light should be stressed as many hotels involve hauling your bag up many flights of stairs. Lifts are rare. Meals were mostly excellent.

Just wanted to say thank you to you and your team. The trip was amazing. Right from the first contact we made with you and your team things ran seamlessly. The walk itself was one none of us will ever forget. The 6 days prior to the Gran Paradiso summit were unreal. Every day I found myself having to stop and look around at the absolute beauty of our surroundings. The accommodation was very well organised and really well looked after. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food on the other hand was top notch. After a full day of walking nothing better than a hearty homemade meal – 3 courses none the less… Couldn’t fault anything relating to the accommodation at all. The guides Max and Arnold as well as Robust the mule were incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much, and their knowledge of the area and the environment was quite incredible. They made the whole experience unforgettable. Lunches out on the mountain were simple yet perfect. The summit of Gran Paradiso was something that took a lot of us out of our comfort zones. It was definitely the hardest day of walking that I have experienced. Very satisfying to reach the summit after 4.5hrs of walking. The views were amazing. We will definitely be back to walk more of these trails. Thanks again for your help in setting this up for our group.

Travel Tips for the France Walking Tour

  • Get a local map or download an offline map on your phone. Even with a tour guide, it's good to have a sense of direction and knowledge about your surroundings.
  • Don't rush. Walking tours are about immersing yourself in the environment, so take your time to appreciate each sight and experience.
  • Leave room for spontaneous activities. France is full of surprises, so be open to exploring that intriguing side street or local patisserie that wasn't on your itinerary.
  • Choose the right time of year for your France walking tour. Spring and autumn typically offer mild weather and fewer crowds, enhancing your overall experience.
  • While shopping through the streets of France, make sure to greet shopkeepers when you enter and leave their shops, as it is customary to do so.
  • Like in any tourist destination, be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas. Use a cross-body bag or a backpack with secure, zipped compartments to keep your essentials like your wallet and passport. Avoid flashing expensive items, like jewelry or high-end cameras, in public. The last thing you want to worry about on your walking tour is losing something important.
