Itinerary
An exhilarating walk around Mont Blanc taking in sweeping vistas of famous peaks and glaciers. The historic Tour du Mont Blanc is easily one of the most spectacular hikes of the world. Brimming with incredible vistas from high mountain passes, lush valleys and highway sized glaciers, alpine scenery does not get much better than this. Joining an international group led by a bilingual mountain guide, the emphasis is on full immersion into the sublime mountain culture, with overnights in cosy mountain refuges or charming village gîtes. Carrying only a day pack, our mules transport your luggage leaving you free to enjoy the days hike. Commencing from the Chamonix Valley in France, the route takes you through Italy and Switzerland during a horseshoe circuit around the Mont Blanc massif. There is plenty of time to enjoy the small villages along the way, including the delightful hamlets of La Fouly and Trient.

Leaving from the village of Le Tour we ascend on the scenic high mountain path of Balme heading towards Switzerland. The overall experience was fantastic. The guide Maxime was brilliant. Stayed patient with us all. It was an early season trip so there was a lot of snow and some places offering delicacies on the mountain were closed, but on the plus side there were few other walkers and a lot of wildlife around.
Sebastian was a great guide. The group was a mixture of French, Belgian and Australians. The accommodation was adequate and clean - you just need to get used to staying in large dormitory-style buildings with very limited toilets and showers. It would be mayhem during peak season.
I loved the tour, the scenery, the lodges. The guide we had was great, very knowledgeable, transmitted confidence and was attentive to each person's needs. However, we went on the last trip at the end of September, which is a week outside of the season and much more prone to bad weather. I wish I had been warned about this so I could have brought more appropriate clothing and made a more informed decision. In addition, there was one person in the group who was not very physically fit, which hindered the group experience a little.
The hike is a testing one and deserves a good build up fitness routine as suggested, with plenty of steep hill climbs and descents.
This is a really beautiful hike, and challenging at times. Choosing the guided hike was great for us, as we really enjoyed the company of the group we were in and it made the trip much more social and enjoyable. Our guide Fred was excellent; considerate of the group level of fitness, and colourful commentary of the history of Mont Blanc and the climbers that have challenged the Alps. He also knew the owners and operators of the Refuges and that made things smoother and more enjoyable for sure. Be prepared for cold showers in some places though!
