We had a great time on our walk. We went the wrong way one day, walked 15 km following a red and white stripe, unaware that other walks used the same signage. It was one of our shorter days and we were all looking forward to an easy day. After faithfully following the signage we ended up in the middle of nowhere! Apart from that all went well. The overnight accommodation was great, the food superb. A great walk.

The walking was absolutely fantastic. The accommodation was really good and the food was amazing. You were never left feeling like you hadn't had enough to eat. The app was a little disappointing as it hardly ever worked correctly and it often mentioned there were no food stops available when there clearly were. This may need to be addressed in the future and it would make this trip a 10/10.

Le Puy en Velay to Conques is a fantastic hike. Beautiful and varied scenery and good accommodation made it so enjoyable. There are much fewer people than the Spanish Camino, which I appreciated very much.

Excellent experience, highly recommended. I did the TMB 10 day hike with a small group of 7 people on 10th October 2025. Every day a new adventure with news landscapes, a new refuge, new cuisine. Our guide Madeleine was great fun, super informative and friendly. The weather was perfect! A bit of rain in day 1 but otherwise good.

Overall, the Conques to Cahors trip was fabulous with great accommodation and amazing hosts. However, there were a few little details that were not up to the same standard. Neither of us could get the navigation on the Guido app to work without constant errors and it was missing critical information, such as potable water fountains, cafes and supermarkets. I provided dietary information upon booking that I cannot eat pork, but was served pork for dinner on two occasions (not sure if that is just French hospitality or the information was not provided to the hosts). And our itinerary did not end up being as listed on the website, we had one day that was only 6.5kms and another day that was 28.5kms, which resulted in a very long day of walking.

Amazing trip!

Just returned from walking the highlights of Mount Blanc! There was a variety of hikes and all had great views. Our guide and chalet hosts were very knowledgeable and made us feel very welcome!

Travel Tips Hiking Tours of France

  • Plan your hiking tours in France during the Fall months to enjoy comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds on the trails, and lower prices for accommodations.
  • Book your mountain hut in advance, especially during peak hiking seasons when lodging options may fill up quickly.
  • Check the weather forecast before venturing out on a hike, especially if you are wandering in the Alpine region during Spring and Summer when the risk of sudden thunderstorms and heavy rains is particularly high.
  • Consider the risk of avalanches in late spring, especially if there is significant melting at the higher elevations, which causes the snow to drift downward.
  • Familiarize yourself with the local emergency contact number, which in France is 112.
  • Be aware of the presence of bears and other wildlife animals in natural areas, such as the Pyrenees National Park, and avoid unpleasant encounters by following designated trails and using bear canisters or bear-resistant containers to store your food.
  • Don’t forget to apply a tick repellent before going out on a hike, as they can carry the risk of Lyme disease transmission.
