France Adventure Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Adventure France tours

I said this previously... excellent hotels, except the one in Paris, which was not very welcoming and way too small,; outstanding tour, guide, and our driver… Outstanding excursions and wonderful side trips, and special experiences…

The Dordogne trip was outstanding - beautiful scenery, quaint and comfortable hotels, excellent food and days longs enough to feel the benefit of walking but not so long to make you too exhausted to enjoy arriving. Added bonus was our ability to enjoy a “coupe” everywhere we landed.

I was pleased with the Coach Driver, Tour Director, the Itinerary was amazing but I would have liked another day in Austria and Germany for sure The hotel in Paris I was not pleased with way too small it was clean enough but I felt way below my standards the other hotels were ok. I would have liked to stay closer to the Towns especially in London although we didn’t go out in the evening except for the side tours as I was exhausted from all the walking and long days. To be honest I have not recuperated yet from my trip but I am elderly with many health issues

The walking was absolutely fantastic. The accommodation was really good and the food was amazing. You were never left feeling like you hadn't had enough to eat. The app was a little disappointing as it hardly ever worked correctly and it often mentioned there were no food stops available when there clearly were. This may need to be addressed in the future and it would make this trip a 10/10.

Excellent experience, highly recommended. I did the TMB 10 day hike with a small group of 7 people on 10th October 2025. Every day a new adventure with news landscapes, a new refuge, new cuisine. Our guide Madeleine was great fun, super informative and friendly. The weather was perfect! A bit of rain in day 1 but otherwise good.

Overall, the Conques to Cahors trip was fabulous with great accommodation and amazing hosts. However, there were a few little details that were not up to the same standard. Neither of us could get the navigation on the Guido app to work without constant errors and it was missing critical information, such as potable water fountains, cafes and supermarkets. I provided dietary information upon booking that I cannot eat pork, but was served pork for dinner on two occasions (not sure if that is just French hospitality or the information was not provided to the hosts). And our itinerary did not end up being as listed on the website, we had one day that was only 6.5kms and another day that was 28.5kms, which resulted in a very long day of walking.

Recommended adventures in France

1. Hike the French Alps

The snow-capped mountains decorating the landscape in southeast France are among the highest peaks in Europe and a treasure for mountaineers. A trekking tour in France will take you to iconic mountains like Mont Blanc, beautiful alpine lakes and charming villages.

  • Best time to hike: June – September (summer) due to warmer temperatures, clearer skies and a lower risk of avalanches.
  • Tip: Stick to hiking trails that have a refuge in order to stock up on food and supplies during your trek. You may even find a lodge or bed & breakfast to rest in during your adventure tour in France.

2. Ski the world-class slopes

Powdery slopes and exhilarating off-piste adventures make the French Alps a highly sought European winter destination. Courchevel, Les Arcs, Val-d'Isère and other famous resorts provide riders of all skill levels many opportunities to catch big air.

  • Best time to ski: December – March (winter) when the snow coverage is at its very best.
  • Tip: Pack your ski gear in wheeled bags to make transporting your equipment easier when arriving at the airport or train station.

3. Discover France on horseback

Admire gorgeous vistas and soak up the fascinating history of France while riding to elaborate châteaux, cozy villages and rustic terrain. Exploring each beautiful region of the country on horseback is a great adventure activity in France for travelers looking for a more intimate experience.

  • Best time to ride: April – June (spring) due to comfortable temperatures and longer days of warm sunshine.
  • Tip: Some of the best areas for horseback riding tours include Bordeaux wine country, the Alps, the Loire Valley or, for those looking for a taste of beach riding, Normandy or Britanny.

4. Cycle the French countryside

Home of the historic Tour de France, cyclists will have a field day exploring the numerous routes winding through France’s peaceful landscapes. From mountainous climbs to coastal routes, a cycling adventure trip in France is an exciting way to discover the country’s natural beauty at your own pace.

  • Best time to cycle: April – June (spring) and September – October (fall) to avoid sweltering temperatures and Tour de France road closures.
  • Tip: The Hautes Côtes and the Vallée De L’ouche in Burgundy, Route des Vins in Alsace and Petit Lubéron in Provence are among the best cycling routes in France, although there are so many to choose from!

5. Go canyoning

The turquoise waters and jagged cliffs of Gorges du Verdon present the perfect environment for one of the most daring adventure tours in France. Thrill-seekers up for a challenge have endless obstacles that test one’s ability to climb and swim through sparkling pools in between the canyon.

  • Best time for canyoning: June – September (late spring-summer) when the temperatures are warmer, and the canyon has the right amount of water for a fun but safe excursion.
  • Tip: Always check with a local guide to inspect the water levels of a canyon trail to ensure the conditions are not dangerous. Increased snowmelt and recent thunderstorms can cause the canyon’s water to reach unsafe levels.
