A fabulous holiday. India is such a vibrant and fascinating country. This safari gave us the opportunity to explore the wildlife and beautiful jungles in 5 national parks, as well as some cultural sites. Looking for tigers is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but we saw 3 and it was breathtaking. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took good care of us, and the accommodation was excellent, although the hotel in Delhi was rather tired, but very helpful staff everywhere.

The trip was as advertised full on. India is a culture shock but with our guide Neeraj Beneda we had an excellent support that allowed us to experience everything on the itinerary and more. Wow what a country

Great trip

Wonderful trip through a unique part of India. As usual with Exodus we had a great group of like minded travelers and a variety of things to see and experience. There was a good mix of urban and nature. Cochin would have been a lot better if the hotel was in Fort Cochin. Too much time was spend driving back and forth.

A fabulous tour of the India’s Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. We covered so much in a week, including wonderful historical sites including the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. We also got a great taste of life in India including a thrilling ride in a rickshaw through old Delhi! The hotels were good and the transport very comfortable. Optional extras included a cookery demonstration and a visit to a wonderful cinema in Jaipur to see a Bollywood movie. Best of all was our wonderful local tour Leader, Nicky, who was funny, kind and efficient and got us round very safely. This was my first trip to India but not my last! I fell in love with the place and its people and would love to return and do another Explore trip. Highly recommended.

A great experience with stunning scenery at the tea plantations and from the houseboat. The food was amazing. Abhi our guide really made the trip though and was the most attentive and hard working Explore guide I have had (this was Explore trip 36). He was there at every meal, helping with orders and his love of his job and country were obvious. Thanks Abhi - you were outstanding. The hotels were of a very good standard although hot water was not available at the homestay or on the boat (although the boat was very comfortable). It is advisable to have a smaller bag for the boat as it is difficult to move large bags onto or off the boats. Avoid Air India - my flight was cancelled on the day out meaning I missed the first day of the tour, there were also further delays both en route and on return.... Overall though a wonderful experience with a lovely group of fellow travellers. Highly recommended. Do take an umbrella!

We were lucky to have a virtually private tour with an excellent guide and brilliant driver plus beautiful accommodation. Very interesting tour experiences too with such a knowledgeable guide.

Best time to travel to India

The ideal time to visit India is during the peak tourist season from October to March, when the weather is pleasant across most regions. Traveling during these periods allows for comfortable exploration of India's diverse attractions. For a detailed seasonal overview, check out our guide on the best time to visit India.

Optimal duration to explore India

To truly experience India's rich culture and diverse landscapes, a two-week trip is recommended. This duration allows you to visit prominent sites like the Golden Triangle—Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur—and explore lesser-known destinations such as the Indian Himalayas, Kerala's backwaters, or Goa's beaches. Even with a 7-day India itinerary, you can cover major attractions and add destinations like Varanasi, Ranthambore National Park, or Rishikesh. For more duration options, check out our guide on how many days to spend in India.

Packing essentials for a trip to India

When traveling to India, pack lightweight, loose-fitting clothing suitable for varying temperatures. A comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential for city tours and temple visits. Include a light jacket or rainwear for cooler evenings and unexpected rain. A scarf or shawl is useful for sun protection and covering up when visiting religious sites. Don't forget sunscreen, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

Sustainable travel practices when visiting India

To minimize your environmental impact in India, consider carbon-offsetting your flights and supporting local environmental charities. Choose travel partners that offer carbon offsetting, such as Bookmundi. Choose eco-friendly accommodations, reduce plastic use by carrying a reusable water bottle, and respect local cultures and wildlife. Engaging in responsible tourism ensures a positive experience for both travelers and host communities.
