Write your own Jungle Book story on a wildlife safari in India. Home to an incredible 70 percent of the world’s tiger population, the wildlife of India is perhaps best known for the Bengal tiger. India wildlife tours offer many more remarkable sightings—from elephants in Kerala and snow leopards in Ladakh to one-horned rhinos in Assam and Asiatic lions in Gujarat. Top-rated wildlife tours in India featuring tigers include jeep safaris deep into the majestic jungles of Bandhavgarh National Park. Spot awe-inspiring herds of wild elephants (with their delightful babies dutifully trotting along) in Periyar National Park on wildlife safari tours in India. The-less visited Hemis National Park in Ladakh is home to the extremely shy snow leopard, along with animals such as the bharal (blue sheep), Tibetan wolf and brown bear. The biggest draw of the Kaziranga National Park in India’s northeast is the one-horned rhinoceros, but you can also catch Asiatic water buffaloes, elephants, tigers and swamp deer. Honest insights from past guests on our Wildlife India tours

We benefited from an absolutely brilliant tour guide, Kiran, very experienced and knowledgeable but also highly organised and excellent company! Bhutan was of course the tour highlight with another excellent local guide. We only covered a very small part of the country which could be made into a tour in its own right if possible! It would have been useful for dress code to be included in the tour notes ( long trousers and collared sleeve tops) as some of the party had to buy the latter in Bhutan. Enjoyed everywhere else but a long return trip to Sandurbans to see very little, although a welcome bit of relaxation after Calcutta. Darjeeling and train ride another highlight and staying mid town was appreciated, which we missed in Gangtok and Kathmandu, Accommodation generally good but Summit chain in India variable quality and repetitive menu selection, some variation would be preferable. But all in all a most enjoyable and worthwhile trip expertly guided

Had a great time in Kerala, with a fabulous bunch of fellow Explorers and a very knowledgable guide in Sam. Weather was kind, despite rain being forecast for the whole trip, only one heavy shower which was quite welcome in the very hot and humid conditions which made the cycling a little tougher. Accommodation was of mixed standards, had more cold showers than hot! Often welcome tho. A/C or fans throughout and much needed. Backwaters just as expected, lush and green, teeming with flora and fauna, binoculars useful, also enjoyed blowy coastal rides and the start of the trip in hippie vibe resorts of Kovalam and Varkala, excellent restaurants overlooking beach and lots of shops selling clothing and fabrics. Trip ended in Fort Cochin, iconic fishing nets ‘Cheena Vala’ didn’t disappoint along with architecture left by Dutch and Portuguese, nice feel to the place - an excellent trip with lots of good and cheap food, a few G and Ts too.

A fabulous holiday. India is such a vibrant and fascinating country. This safari gave us the opportunity to explore the wildlife and beautiful jungles in 5 national parks, as well as some cultural sites. Looking for tigers is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but we saw 3 and it was breathtaking. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took good care of us, and the accommodation was excellent, although the hotel in Delhi was rather tired, but very helpful staff everywhere.

We were lucky to have a virtually private tour with an excellent guide and brilliant driver plus beautiful accommodation. Very interesting tour experiences too with such a knowledgeable guide.

This was a very interesting and varied tour which coivered a lot of ground in two short weeks. Our Guide, Sanjeev was a great tour leader, who dealt with any issues quickly and efficiently throughout the trip. For me, the main highlight was the Ranthanbore National Park which as an absolute must for any lovers of wildlife

It was a very full on itinerary, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately due to the heavy traffic we spent a lot of time on the bus. Our tour guide reminded us that this is India, became known as TII. My highlight was definitely the Taj Mahal, however every city we visited had a highlight. Our tour guide was very helpful, professional and diplomatic. A smile on his face at all times. Can thoroughly recommend.

  • Head to the Great Himalayan National Park, which combines wildlife spotting (musk deer, Himalayan tahr, cheer pheasants, etc) with trekking.
  • Go on an early morning walk inside Keoladeo National Park to see beautiful birds like the green sandpiper, painted storks and Siberian cranes.
  • Drive into Rajasthan’s little gem called Jhalana Leopard Safari Park, which is turning into one of the best destinations to see leopards in the wild.
  • Follow River Kabini as it winds through Karnataka’s Nagarhole National Park, and look out for wild dogs, sloth bears, elephants and wild boars.

Travel Tips for Wildlife tours in India

  • Research before planning a tour to increase the chances of wildlife sightings. For instance, go between March and May to spot the tiger at Ranthambore.
  • Be mindful that most parks shut during India’s long monsoon season, but the dates vary from park to park. For example, Bandhavgarh is open for visitors from October 15 to June 30.
  • As India is a hot land for much of the year, carry enough water before heading into a jungle during India wildlife tours.
  • Wildlife safaris have limited daily slots, so book in advance.
