Reviews of our Iceland Tours for October
Feedback from guests who toured Iceland during October.
Our group of 13 ranging in age from 18 to 81 had a very gifted leader on our five day adventure. She provided insight into the culture, history, geology and the sagas. We thoroughly enjoyed all elements lodging, attractions visited and daily schedule.
My experience with Expore for the Iceland Northern Lights trip was fantastic. The itinerary and accomadation were excellent. They were located close to the airport/sites we visted during the tour. Our tour leader, Meika and driver Sverry were amazing! - Very friendly and knowledgeable. They provided excellent context around the various locations we visited and entertained us with various icelandic saga's during the bus rides between destinations. They were also great in giving us plenty of time to explore each area and not once did we as a group feel rushed. Finally, as a solo traveller the group itself was great, a mix of other solo travellers and couples plus a mix of people who had done many explore tours before and those (like myself) who had not.
What a fantastic trip. Iceland is so full of natural wonder its hard to know what to highlight. The first thing is our guide; a passionate Icelander who brought everything to life and told us all about the detail we might otherwise miss. We saw blue sky, sunshine and a dusting of snow for the first 3 days then overcast and finally rain and blasts of strong wind. Nothing the weather could throw at us could marr the beauty and splendour of Iceland. Everything from dormant and dead volcanic craters, thermal baths, glaciers and their iceburgs, larva fields, waterfalls....the list goes on and on. Lastly, the public - open air - swimming pools and their hot tubs are a must. They refresh you, offer you the chance to wind down and relax and are absolutely wonderful. Do go!
We had an amazing trip and felt very taken care of by the staff at our travel company. They went above and beyond. The itinerary gave us days that were full of thoughtfully planned, unique experiences. Every day felt fulfilling; we saw beautiful sights, had adventures, delicious food, and great hotel experiences, all while our wonderful guide shared his knowledge of Iceland with us. His passion for this beautiful country was contagious. We truly had the trip of a lifetime and are very grateful to have found our travel agency.
First two days due to strong winds we were exploring unexpectedly fjord near Kangerlussuaq airport in Greenland. This affected the planned itinerary and expedition team worked hard to resolve various issues. It was a very memorable experience with 18 nights on board of Ultramarine. We have visited places where no other expedition ships have been or only visited on rare occasions. We were lucky with clear skies on the first 6 nights and the Aurora Borealis was better and better on each night. Glaciers, icebergs were nice backdrops on many photos and experiences were enhanced with helicopter flights over magnificent landscapes of Baffin island (Sam Ford fjord especially) and Greenland. Wonderful autumn colours of tundra and rock formations were explored on many hikes in addition to the visits to archeological sites. Introduction to Inuit culture and history was during visits to Itileq, Ilulissat, Uummannaaq, Nipisat island and Pond Inlet. It was enhanced by performances of local artists and visits to Inuit colourful homes. Although the wildlife of Arctic is not so plentiful as in Antarctica, we managed to have wonderful observations of numerous polar bears (12 in one day!), seals and birds. We also followed somewhat the footsteps of Franklin's expedition and reached the Beechey island where the expedition has spent the winter in 1845/46 and where are some graves of the sailors. Expedition team members presented many interesting lectures on history, geology, birds and bears. It was also a nice culinary experience of Greenlandic cuisine: Tundra to Table.
An excellent trip with great activities and a full schedule. From start to finish you hardly stop, that being said you see some amazing sights and really geta a feel for Iceland and its culture.
