Delightful Golden Circle Tour

We were completely delighted with our guide Torfi on the Golden Circle minibus tour. He was thoughtful, courteous, clearly communicating about each stop before so we would know what to expect. He was so knowledgeable about so many details of Iceland. From his personal experience being born and raised here to his complex detailed geologic knowledge made understandable, we were eager listeners. He patiently answered all our questions, time and again. Our party of three would recommend him with the highest praise. We were comparing notes with friends on a different bus and by far we had the best experience. And he was an excellent driver! Thank you Torfi!

Outstanding

Woweee! Such an amazing day filled with lots of different things to see! The guide Howsa was absolutely fantastic and so so knowledgeable! He made the journey exciting and we didn't feel like the bus journey was boring due to his uplifting attitude and positivity! He was so passionate about Iceland and knew so much interesting information. Howsa's English was impeccable and his choice of words left us feeling like we were listening to an audio book! Would recommend this trip to anyone that appreciates nature and outstanding views! So glad I found this trip after researching must see places in Iceland as it topped off our trip and made it even more incredible!"

Amazing tour !!!

My husband and I had an amazing day. I can highly recommend this tour to everyone who comes to visit Iceland. Travelling by mini bus is much more convenient. We were picked up in time from the hotel we agreed on as we stayed at a different place. One of the highlights of the tour was our amazing guide Fannar. He was very informative, knowledgeable , fun and a very good driver. He brought us home safely. If you book this tour you will definitely get value for your money.

Great tour, fab guide, clean coach with big windows for great views

Tour ran like clockwork. Picked up from bus stop 2 & taken in minibus to our coach for the day which was clean, with big windows to take in the spectacular views enroute. Day paced well to see everything, but not too rushed. (We had only 3 days to see Iceland) Tour guide (Elun) regaled us with some great Icelandic stories & myths! Had lunch at geyser, lots of choice and served quickly despite being busy. Expensive of course. Great value tour for all the family (age 8,15,45 & 50!) Highly recommended!

Thingvellir National Park - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Tour Highlights

  • Lake Þingvallavatn is the largest natural lake on the island. Þingvallavatn’s most fascinating feature are the fish that inhabit the lake, especially the Arctic char and the brown trout.
  • Almannagjá gorge is a one of the most breath-taking sights in the park and an important geological point. The dramatic gorge represents the eastern edge of the North American Plate.
  • Silfra is the name of the volcanic fissure that occupies the space between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Due to its unique geographic positioning, it has become one of the most attractive snorkeling sites in the world.
  • Öxarárfoss is a majestic waterfall formed by the River Öxará. This lush fall cascades over two platforms before creating a dramatic 13-meter drop.

Travel Tips

  • There are no proper lodgings found in the Thingvellir National Park; however, you have the option to stay two designated camping sites, one in Leirar and one in in Vatnskot by Lake Þingvallavatn. Permits for camping and fishing can be acquired at the Information Center upon your arrival. If you visit Iceland during the summer months, then take advantage of a fantastic phenomenon called 'midnight sun' where the sun doesn't disappear until late hours of midnight to explore more areas of the National Park.
  • Thingvellir National Park is located about 40 kilometers north-east from Reykjavik. During the summer season (from June to September), daily tour buses operate from the BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavik to the park.
  • Game of Thrones fans will be delighted to hear that several spots in the park, including Almannagjá gorge and Lake Þingvallavatn, served as filming locations for the show.
