Itinerary

Iceland’s winter is a world apart—discover its untamed beauty on the Iceland Winter Adventure, a 9-day wildlife trip circling from Reykjavik. Tailored for experienced travelers, this easy-paced group tour follows the epic Ring Road, taking in erupting geysers at Strokkur, the mighty Gullfoss Waterfall, Thingvellir National Park’s tectonic wonders, and the glacier landscapes of Hofn. By night, chase the elusive Northern Lights as they dance across the Arctic sky. Unique activities include a super jeep ascent up Kaldbakur Mountain and an immersive visit to Hrisey Island with a Viking guide. The USP? The rare chance to combine Iceland’s dramatic natural wonders with the magical spectacle of the Aurora Borealis, all in one carefully curated tour package.

day 1Join trip in Reykjavik

Our adventure begins today in Reykjavik. We use the public FlyBus shuttle bus service to transfer from Keflavik Airport (KEF) to our hotel. On arrival at Keflavik Airport please proceed to the FlyBus desk in the arrivals hall. A FlyBus representative will give you a voucher and direct you to the buses which leave every 35-40 minutes. The drive to the hotel takes approximately 45 minutes, via the main bus terminal where you might be asked to board a smaller bus for the final part of the journey to your hotel. On the drive from the airport to the hotel, you'll get your first glimpse of the blackened and rocky volcanic scenery found on this part of the island.
There are no activities planned today so you're free to arrive at any time. After checking in to the hotel, you might have time to explore a little of the world's most northerly capital. Bustling with cosmopolitan energy and surrounded by pure, unpolluted nature, Reykjavik is a city of striking contrasts. Small colourful corrugated iron houses nestle next to futuristic glass buildings; state-of-the-art facilities lie beside rugged volcanic terrain and international influences mingle with Icelandic national traditions. All this creates a unique culture where the old embraces the new.
On this holiday, our tour leader will join you for days 2 to 8 but this evening, you're free to settle in and enjoy this charming city.

Varied activities. We visited lots of different places and saw wonderful sights, including the northern lights 3 times! The weather limited some activities but this was managed well by the guide and driver. Unexpected trip to the hospital was also managed well. We particularly enjoyed the brewery tour, the super jeeps and the thermal baths. A great holiday with fantastic memories.

Loved the trip. It was great to see Iceland in winter. I think we were quite lucky with the weather as a whole. The accommodation was all good. Food expensive. but to a high standard, Thor, our driver kept us safe on the very icy roads. Gusti our tour leader was great. Very sociable and kept us laughing with his stories!!

An excellent itinerary taking in most of Iceland, with an excellent leader who was a fund of local knowledge, both fact and myth. We were lucky to have good weather with clear views of snow-covered mountains, and clear nights with visible aurora. The food, though pricey, was to a high standard, especially the fish soup on Hrisey. As well as the included visit to the Forest Lagoon we had the opportunity to enjoy the public swimming baths in Reykjavik and Akureyri, and hot tubs in some of the hotels.

Where to begin ! A fabulous itinerary blessed with fabulous weather but, most importantly of all, an outstanding guide Vala and excellent driver Hjörtur who, with such knowledge and humour, shared so much with us about their beautiful Iceland. Perfect.
