Croatia

About Croatia

Croatia blends some of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes with a dazzling Adriatic coastline and medieval towns that feel frozen in time. Famous as a filming location for Game of Thrones, the country’s timeless beauty attracts travelers seeking both history and adventure. With a customized Croatia tour, you can go beyond the highlights — chase waterfalls in Plitvice Lakes National Park, explore the Roman heritage of Split, hike the rugged trails of Northern Velebit National Park, or sail between the sun-kissed islands of the Adriatic.

Reach out to our local experts in Croatia to create a tailor-made itinerary to experience the very best of the country at your own pace.

When to go to Croatia

Our experts recommend reaching out at least two weeks before your trip to allow enough time to design and organize your itinerary, though they can work their magic in as little as one week if needed.

But before you reach out to plan the trip, figure out when you would like to make the trip. The best time to visit Croatia is during June and July, when the weather is warm and sunny, with average temperatures between 23–27°C (73–81°F). These summer months are perfect for sightseeing, sailing, and relaxing along the coast, though crowds are at their peak. For fewer visitors and mild weather, consider the shoulder seasons — May to early June or September to early October — when the Adriatic is still warm, but the pace is more relaxed.
Croatia’s mountain regions can surprise travelers with snowfall in winter, creating a quieter but equally beautiful setting for scenic drives and hiking. However, note that some mountain roads may close during this season.

How many days is ideal for a customized Croatia trip

To truly experience Croatia, we recommend spending at least one week. This allows enough time to explore Roman ruins, wander medieval towns, and relax on hidden sea coves. For a more immersive journey, plan a two- to three-week custom tour, giving you the chance to enjoy the atmosphere of Croatia’s historic cities, unwind along the Adriatic coast, and venture into the mountains for hiking or cycling adventures. See more recommended durations.

Must-visit destinations on a tailored tour of Croatia

Begin in Dubrovnik, where medieval walls and terracotta rooftops overlook the sea, or explore Split, dominated by Diocletian’s Palace, a living monument to Roman grandeur. Sail to Hvar, a chic coastal hub and gateway to the Dalmatian islands, or head inland to marvel at the waterfalls of Plitvice National Park. History lovers will enjoy the ancient Roman arena in Pula, while beach enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the golden sands of Zlatni Rat or the sun-drenched coastline around Rijeka. Learn more.

Budget for a customized Croatia itinerary

At Bookmundi, our travel experts recommend a per day per person budget of USD 165 for a bespoke Croatia trip. The increase in the budget would depend on your travel style, accommodation preferences, and chosen activities. This includes high-quality stays, guided tours, and local experiences. There’s no fee for itinerary planning. You pay only once you’re happy with your trip and ready to book.

Excellent

We’ve done a few self-drive trips before, but this one across Croatia and Slovenia? One for the books. First off, the route is genius. You start strong in Dubrovnik — the kind of place that just knocks the wind out of you. That view from the city walls? Unreal. The rental car setup was smooth, and driving in Croatia was easier than we expected, thanks tp great signages. Split was a big favorite, felt lively and ancient at the same time. And Plitvice Lakes? We thought we'd seen some beautiful parks in our time, but those waterfalls are something else. Just go early.. the crowds are real. Slovenia was a lovely surprise. Postojna Caves felt like another planet and Lake Bled too. Ljubljana and Zagreb had that easy-going charm we weren’t expecting. We liked having the freedom to stop when we wanted. Tiny roadside bakeries, scenic detours, coastal towns we hadn’t even heard of. That’s the magic of a self-drive tour. All in all, great mix of history, nature, and freedom. If you like doing your own thing but with a solid plan in place, this one’s a winner.

Trip of a lifetime...guaranteed!

Captain Zoran and his responsible crew gave our group of 12 the most amazing trip of a lifetime! We had to reschedule due to Covid and Zoran honored everything from the original trip and went above and beyond to make this anticipated experience a high-end luxury vacation on Korcula Island in June 2022...from the Soul Sisters Villa, the daily island excursions on the yachts, the buggy tour of Korcula, along with the awesome food and transportation...it was all seamless due to the coordination of Captain Zoran and all of his local contacts in the community! Roko, along with the rest of the crew members, became a part of our extended family. We had high expectations going into the trip and they were pleasantly exceeded in all aspects...including personal communication from Captain Zoran each day about our unforgettable daily adventures. Croatia is a beautiful country and this local travel specialist is the only way to experience it if you want to come home with memories that make you want to go back there tomorrow! We wish them only the best as they prosper in the future tour seasons! Dok se open ne vidimo, Hrvatska! (Until we see you again, Croatia!)
