A real glimpse into everyday India

I honestly can’t recommend this trip enough. From start to finish, it was full of unforgettable moments and thoughtful touches. We travelled through Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, and everything was so well organised - it was the perfect introduction to India. One of my favourite memories was being greeted with flower wreaths at a Jaipur flower market—it felt so personal and welcoming. The visit to the Taj Mahal was obviously a highlight, but there were so many other surprises too. Staying at Suroth Mahal, a 600 year old heritage hotel, was something special. After a short cooking demonstration, they even put on a traditional Indian wrestling match in the courtyard, which none of us were expecting! We also had an optional stop at Chand Baori stepwell—recognised it from the Batman film, The Dark Knight! It also wasn't just bus journeys - we were on camel carts, cycle rickshaws, and it was in these moments you really got to see the chaotic but beautiful pace of life in India. The food was another major highlight for me. I went in expecting curry and naan, but it was so much more varied and regional than I thought. The evening cooking demonstration in Jaipur was a real treat too—we learned how to make things like masala chai, lentil pakoras and korwan aloo, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the flavours and how fresh everything is. We even got to try some street food chai and sweet jalebi!

Best India Tour

My sister and I joined the tour “Tak Mahal and Rajesthan with Royal Stay at Castles”. This tour covers the golden triangle area and beyond, has lots of to see and explore. We specifically liked the stay at Geogarh Castle and Bijaipur Castle with horse and camel riding. We were lucky to spot the tiger in the Ranthambore. Finally the Taj Mahal in Agra was highlight of our trip.

So many adventures and a perfect introduction to India!

This was a busy itinerary with some early starts and long transfers, but it meant we saw so many amazing places every day. Our memory of the first week in the north, was of the noisy mayhem that is India, with quite a lot of sightseeing to monuments. In contrast the week in Kerala was more relaxed either by the sea or in the mountains. Being a 'Premium Adventure' meant we were in good standard hotels, and about half the dinners and some lunches were included in the price, which was appreciated. Also, our leader saw to all the tipping for the whole trip, so we didn't have to have a kitty (a bit of a bugbear on previous Exodus trips).

Amazing Experience, not to be missed

As a first time visitor to India I was not disappointed. This is a full on trip with lots of time spent travelling between locations but this means you get the full flavour of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu from the stunning tea plantations in the North to the Southern Tip of India where three oceans meet.

Mind blowing is what I’m thinking! What an adventure, the different monasteries were incredible! Hard to take in sometimes, and the scenery is out of this world! We couldn’t believe we were actually there at times. Very well run with Nawang being extremely informative. Margie was a pleasure and full of knowledge about the area. Food was great and our drivers fantastic.

Recommended activities and destinations for seniors in India

India presents a rich variety of experiences for senior travelers, all without the need for strenuous activity. Cruise peacefully through the palm-lined backwaters of Kerala, explore the regal palaces of Rajasthan, or unwind in the spiritual calm of Rishikesh. Relax on the golden beaches of Goa, known for its laid-back vibe and Portuguese heritage. The Taj Mahal is a must-see, though it does involve some walking; many tours include rest breaks and offer wheelchair assistance. At Jaipur’s Amber Fort, climbing stairs can be avoided with convenient jeep rides to the top.

Venture into the spiritual heart of Varanasi, where the sacred Ganges and ancient temples offer profound cultural insights. Enjoy the cool air and scenic beauty of Shimla and Manali—hill stations perfect for a calm retreat. Seniors can also engage in relaxed activities like cooking classes, wildlife safaris in Ranthambore, and traditional performances. Explore more things to do in India and iconic places to visit in India designed for a gentler pace.
