Tajikistan adventure

This was an excellent trip through the high Pamir region of Tajikistan. Expect fabulous scenery, warm hospitality from the local people, and a certain amount of roughing it. If you are not prepared for dormitory accommodation sharing one long drop toilet with up to 20 people this is not the trip for you. Much of the journey is at high altitude over 4000 metres with little time to acclimatise.

A fabulous journey through the Wackhan valley to the remote and untouched Pamir mountains

This was the first trip Exodus have done to this area.. There is spectacular and varied scenery on route, wonderful people and definitely a journey to remember. I loved every minute of it. If you like an adventure, travelling to relatively unexplored areas, enjoy Mountains, like an insight into the lives and culture of the local people and their history and don’t mind roughing it a bit, this is a trip for you.

Adventure in the Pamir

This was truly an adventurous trip, in fact an intrepid 4x4 adventure into one of the least travelled parts of the world. The constantly changing scenery, geography and geology was often mind-blowing due to its vastness and beauty, especially with the spring flowers in bloom. Photographs do not do any justice. There are also stunning views looking into Afghanistan, Pakistan and China. The trip gave a brief insight into the culture and lives of the people. This was a well designed trip exploring as much of the Pamirs as possible in the short time period!!

ATJ: Tajikistan Expedition: Pamir Highway and Beyond

This was a totally amazing and very real adventure! One of my all time favorites; for me, it ranks with Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda. It’s not for the faint of heart - it’s tough and yet worth every squat on a toilet, dust in the eyes, bumpy roads and lack of privacy. It makes one feel totally alive. Plus it’s an incredibly beautiful and fascinating country filled with lovely people!

An amazing adventure in a stunning country

No words or photos can really do justice to this trip, but, to give you an idea, it went straight into my top 3 trips ever, alongside Zim/Bots/Namibia and Falklands/S Georgia/Antarctica, even though I has a bad case of travellers' tummy.

Amazing View, Challenging Trek

The trek is quite challenging. The distance on the 1st day should be around 17km instead of 7km and that was an easy day. The trek gets progressively difficult thereafter. The views were breathtaking and well worth the effort.

Tajikistan Tours — Highlights and Travel Tips

A trip to Tajikistan will take you to a natural paradise. The country's snow-capped Fann Mountains are a dream for any avid trekker in search of adventure, while its turquoise lakes and nature refuges are picturesque delights for those a bit tamer at heart. The country has experienced clashes with government forces from Afghanistan in recent years. Therefore, always check your country's travel advice before planning a holiday to Tajikistan.

Tour Highlights

  • See the bright blue and yellow mosaics of the Haji Yaqub Mosque in Dushanbe
  • Stroll through the flowery paths of Rudaki Park
  • Swim in the perfectly clear waters of the Alauddin Lakes in Du-Oba
  • Take a ride on the Pamir Highway, one of the world's most scenic (and nail-biting) drives
  • Experience the impressive Islamic architecture of Gissar Fort

Travel Tips

  • Bring your hiking shoes! 93% of the country’s landscape is mountain range, making it near impossible to avoid incline. No trip to Tajikistan would be complete without at least one hike. Know your limits and never attempt difficult trails if you are a novice hiker.
  • Even in cities, WiFi can be scarce, slow and expensive in Tajikistan. Be prepared to go without internet for much of your trip - otherwise be prepared to pay for it!
  • In Tajikistan, you will experience hospitality like nowhere else on Earth. The locals are very fond of visitors. Don't be surprised if they invite you into their homes (most likely for a meal).
  • While Tajikistan has a reputation for terrorism and drug-related crime, the country's crime rate is relatively low and it remains a safer destination than many of its neighbouring countries. As always, keep your wits about you and check your country's travel advice before planning a trip.
  • In Tajikistan, you eat dessert first (sort of). A typical Tajik meal starts with a selection of sweets like dried fruit and halva, before moving on to soup and meat. The meal is usually finished with plov (pilaf).

Tajikistan has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Tajikistan before planning your tour.
