Imagine skimming your fingers across the tops of lilac lavender fields. Drinking in Avignon architecture that spans the ages. And sipping medium-bodied wines bursting with sweet, floral flavours. Stroll through quaint villages, charming towns and old ports as a southernly breeze caresses your skin and the sun wraps you into a warm embrace on an evocative journey through Provence and the French Riviera. Where will its magic take you?
This was a very well planned and thought out tour. Our guide (Connie) was engaging and helpful throughout the trip. She prepared in-depth information and graphics to describe each stop in detail. Free time at some stops allowed for individual exploration, before teaming up for group activities. The food and accommodation provided was above expectation. Also, the bus was comfortable and the driver very professional. Overall, it was a fantastic small group tour and I would highly recommend it.
This was a very well organized tour with a great guide that is clearly passionate about what she does.Thank you Connie .You were very well organized .You had laminated sheets and all sorts of things to show us.I am really grateful for this and you taught me such a lot.Thank you for the lovely picnic by the Pont du Gard and for giving us a terrific commentary wherever we were.
Charming towns, so much history and an informative guide made this tour very enjoyable. The group of 15 was just right - any more would have made the bus too cramped.
This was our sixth tour with Back roads. Our Driver and Tour Guide were excellent, they certainly did their best to provide innovative rest stops. However, we feel that the hotels selected were very much sub standard compared to previous tours. If we do any future trips, we will look very closely at this aspect. The bus provided, well, it was just as well that there were only eight passengers, seating space was far too small for Western adults. There were only two seating positions on this bus that had adequate space. The rest sat sideways. Parcel shelf was only good for an umbrella.
We recently were on this tour.We found what we saw and what we did was excellent. Our Tour guide Natalie gave us lots of information and helped us at all times at places to see and restaurants to eat at in our free time. Our driver Ervins was great always happy to stop for that unplanned photo stop. This was our 6th tour since 2017.We feel that some of the hotels although great locations were a bit below the normal standard of a 3 or 4 hotel.Breakfast at one was too repetitive and selection poor for a 4 day stop.Luckily our tour had 8 people so we could spread ourselves out on the bus.I am not so sure if 18 could have fitted as leg room was not far too tight and the parcel shelf did not really fit a lot.
I have given the tour a four star recommendation as Natalie, our tour guide was outstanding in her knowledge, commitment, passion and sense of humour. The experiences provided and landscapes of this beautiful area of France were amazing. However, it is unfortunate to add, having been on previous Blue-Roads tours, that overall the accommodation was below standard including the quality of breakfasts provided. Interestingly, this same grievance had been noted in other reviews some time ago and still nothing has been done to address the issue. I cannot therefore recommend the tour as value for money. Sorry Blue-Roads, but some compensation would have been worthwhile and maintained my loyalty and recommendation.
I have already completed a review of our trip (mine and husband's) at request of our excellent guide Nathalie. But, no matter how much I enjoy something, I am not prepared to write more than one review.
I booked at the last minute as my plans had changed. This tour happened to fit in with my dates and luckily I was accepted to travel. I didn’t fully check what the tour comprised of but saw it went to most of the places I had wanted to see. It didn’t disappoint and was fantastic from the start. Well chosen restaurants for our group dinners and each day took us to a variety of ‘wow’ locations. Can’t go wrong with small Provence villages, winery and olive farm tours, spectacular views, great food, along with following in the footsteps of great painters such as Cezanne and Van Gogh - and of course the opportunity for shopping. Our great guide Davide brought it all together being both relaxed and interested in us all while still imparting wisdom and getting us on time to all the fabulous places and accommodation. Plus great driving from Ervins on some pretty crazy roads!Accommodation was varied but still clean and had everything we needed. Highlights for me were the Pont du Gare, picnic under the olive trees, and the stunning views through the Gorge Verdon - and of course our guide Davide and the lovely, fun group of fellow travellers. Thanks Back Roads.
