Itinerary

Close your eyes and imagine the ripple of grapevines swaying in Bordeaux’s warm breeze. The satisfying crunch of fresh Atlantic oysters being shucked in Arachon Bay. The tap of footsteps meandering slowly along the cobblestones of ancient Carcassonne. The honeyed scent of fresh Périgord strawberries at the Sarlat Market. These are just some of the moments you can experience in Southwest France – and we can’t wait for you to relish them with us on this intimate tour.

day 1Bordeaux (France)

Bordeaux seduces slowly. Its grand stone boulevards, amber-lit at dusk, have been drawing wine lovers, philosophers and wanderers for centuries – and tonight, they draw us. After meeting your Tour Leader and the small group you'll be sharing your adventure with, we'll settle in for our first taste of the city: a welcome dinner, a first taste of Bordeaux’s rich culinary heritage, and the quiet thrill of a journey just beginning. If you've arrived early and want to stretch your legs before dinner, the Chartrons neighbourhood is the place to roam. Its 18th-century merchants' houses once stored the wine that made Bordeaux famous, and today its antique shops, independent galleries and pavement wine bars still carry that unhurried, prosperous ease. Venture a little further and you’ll discover the ornate opera house and the elegant Cours du Chapeau Rouge – where wealthy wine merchants once built their magnificent mansions, their fortunes flowing directly from the Garonne River. Pull up a chair, soak in the atmosphere, and let the city settle around you.

The most fun I’ve had in ages Excellent tour Great company Beautiful locations Very knowledgeable Tour guide who went to considerable effort to ensure everyone had a good time. He went above and beyond his responsibilities to solve problems that cropped up for individuals. His excellent French:English was able to unravel difficulties smoothly. Efficient and helpfull bus driver who worked well with the Tour guide to ensure no one felt left out.

This was a really enjoyable tour but although it might be hard when touring back roads I do think perhaps more attention needs to be paid to the level of hotel and what is expected.

Fabulous tour. Great itinerary. Max was an outstanding tour leader; knowledgeable, ever helpful and accommodating, and his enthusiasm was infectious. Our amiable driver, Ervins, was very skilful. I highly recommend this tour.

This was a true back roads experience of a beautiful corner of France. Spending time getting to know a region well was lovely. Accommodation was of a good standard. As we were only a small group there was plenty of space in the mini-coach. Being the first trip of the season in April most locations were not particularly crowded and the weather was stunning every single day, cool in the morning and glorious every afternoon. There were one or two inclusions I did not particularly enjoy (Lourdes for one being over touristy and not for everyone). Guide Myriam was delightful and very knowledgeable. Many back road routes were driven and small villages visited which was fantastic. It felt like a very local experience.
