Fantastic trip! Charles was among the best guides we have ever had - knowledgable about the culture and wildlife, organized, a great communicator, and incredibly patient. We saw 18 different lemur species! Our group of 10 was fun and easy-going. Madagascar is a beautiful country with fascinating history and culture. In the winter months (June, July, August), bring warm layers! We were happy to have rain pants and rain jackets. A headlamp or flashlight and hiking boots are musts.

Exceeded all our expectations. Tour leader (Joe) was excellent: locating animals, knowledge of all animals (birds to elephants) with great driving on sandy roads and network of other guides. We saw elephants, Giraffe, hyenas cheetahs, painted dogs, rhino and many, many more. Scenes of a pride of lions tucking in to breakfast, hyenas trying to steal a pack of painted dogs kill and a herd of elephants passing tentatively in front of the jeep made the trip really memorable. Wild camping in the middle of the reserve with animals passing through was fantastic. Best to take USD in cash (we took $1,500 which was fine to include tips). Good itinerary but think houseboat would have been better in Chobe. Camp food was good. Expect early (leave at 6.30am) game drives to have the best chance to see the wildlife.

A Perfect Short Safari with Incredible Wildlife Sightings

We chose this 2-day tour for a short weekend trip, and honestly it was much more than expected. On the first day I entered Tarangire National Park, I was overwhelmed to see huge elephant herds, zebras, giraffes, and lions. The guide explained to us all about the animals. On the second day, while descending to the Ngorongoro Crater, the whole scene is like a dream world - seeing black rhinos, lions, hippos, and innumerable gonos together is a truly amazing experience. Although time was limited, I didn't expect to see so much together. Perfect tour for those who want to taste Africa in a short time.

This trip was more than anything I could have dreamed! I knew I was in for a ride, but the way Contiki laid it out and had us on our way was top-notch! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I was able to step out of my comfort zone while crossing off my to-do list! Met some amazing folks, had an incredible Trip Manager, and have loads of memories (and pictures) to last a lifetime! I can't say enough about how much I loved this trip and honestly, have not shut up about it since returning home!

I recently joined the Contiki Cape to Delta Safari, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The itinerary was packed with incredible wildlife encounters, stunning landscapes, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Our guide, was phenomenal—extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and always ready to help. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was comfortable, informed, and getting the most out of the journey. Another highlight was the amazing third-party partners Contiki worked with along the way. From safari operators to local guides, every collaboration felt seamless and added so much authenticity and richness to the trip. You can really tell they’ve built strong relationships with the best people in each region. The only downside was our time at Victoria Falls. As breathtaking as the falls are, we unfortunately only had about 40 minutes to enjoy them. Because some of the group opted for bridge activities, the rest of us had to wait and ended up feeling rushed through the experience. It would be much better if those not participating in bridge activities were able to head to the falls earlier, giving everyone enough time to fully appreciate one of the natural wonders of the world. Overall, this trip was absolutely incredible and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of adventure, wildlife, and culture in Southern Africa. With just a little more time at Victoria Falls, it would have been perfect.

This tour is full on, early mornings, a lot of travelling, not much exercise and lots of good food. We had a lovely group of fellow travellers and great tour guide. The country is beautiful, an ever changing landscape as you drive. The game drives were my highlight but others in the group said the sand dunes or the activity at Walvis Bay. Not relaxing but a brilliant holiday seeing a completely different county in landscape and culture.

Highlights of Africa adventure tours

  • Witnessing the Great Migration is an extraordinary thing to do on an African safari tour. Observe millions of wildebeests and zebras as they make an epic journey across the Serengeti National Park and the Maasai Mara Reserve.
  • Experience the thrill of zip-lining in Cape Town across the beautiful Elgin Valley as a part of your South Africa adventure trip.
Gain a true walking safari experience by taking a bush walk with rangers at Kruger National Park of South Africa.
  • For a thrilling gorilla trekking experience, head to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda or Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda.
  • Cycle through the beautiful dunes and rocky outcrops on your Namibia trip.
  • Camp in Botswana's otherworldly and eerily silent Makgadikgadi Pans, where you can observe a billion stars. The Makgadikgadi Pans are expansive salt flats that create a surreal and otherworldly landscape.
  • Witness the spectacular sight of Victoria Falls, one of the world's seven natural wonders, as you travel to the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Take the breathtaking views and feel the mist as the Zambezi River plunges into the gorge below.

Travel Tips for Africa adventure tours

  • Before going on a gorilla trekking adventure, you need to obtain a permit. The cost of gorilla trekking permits is different according to the national park you visit in either Conga, Rwanda, or Uganda.
  • Get a chance to see leopards and cheetahs hiding amidst acacia boughs in Masai Mara, which is a great way to enjoy a budget safari in Kenya.
  • The peak season for safaris in East Africa is from June to October, while the best time to visit Southern Africa is from May to October.
  • Research the best time to visit the area you are interested in to ensure you can see the wildlife. For example, the Great Migration in Kenya and Tanzania occurs from July to October.
  • Safaris often involve long drives on bumpy roads. Bring a neck pillow and comfortable clothing to make the journey more comfortable.
  • Avoid bright colors for an African safari tour, and wear closed shoes, long pants, and long sleeves to protect against insect bites and potential hazards.
