Reviews of our Africa Tours for August
Reviews from guests who toured through Africa during August.
Exceeded all our expectations. Tour leader (Joe) was excellent: locating animals, knowledge of all animals (birds to elephants) with great driving on sandy roads and network of other guides. We saw elephants, Giraffe, hyenas cheetahs, painted dogs, rhino and many, many more. Scenes of a pride of lions tucking in to breakfast, hyenas trying to steal a pack of painted dogs kill and a herd of elephants passing tentatively in front of the jeep made the trip really memorable. Wild camping in the middle of the reserve with animals passing through was fantastic. Best to take USD in cash (we took $1,500 which was fine to include tips). Good itinerary but think houseboat would have been better in Chobe. Camp food was good. Expect early (leave at 6.30am) game drives to have the best chance to see the wildlife.
We chose this 2-day tour for a short weekend trip, and honestly it was much more than expected. On the first day I entered Tarangire National Park, I was overwhelmed to see huge elephant herds, zebras, giraffes, and lions. The guide explained to us all about the animals. On the second day, while descending to the Ngorongoro Crater, the whole scene is like a dream world - seeing black rhinos, lions, hippos, and innumerable gonos together is a truly amazing experience. Although time was limited, I didn't expect to see so much together. Perfect tour for those who want to taste Africa in a short time.
The whole reason I did not travel much was because of the stress it usually caused. I can never actually enjoy my trip. However, my brother took a tour with CharlieTheTraveler and recommended them. I was pleased to find out that I did not experience any of the normal stress of traveling—instead, the company had planned and organized almost everything for my trip to Morocco. I wasn’t familiar with the country, but that made no difference as the tour guide provided was an expert. I felt safe while going on each daytrip. The mosques we visited were my favorite, as that was unlike anything I have where I live.
The tour was a great experience, filled with so many interesting aspects of the region in Africa. The group experience was also very positive—although, as always, there were some members who were not fully satisfied with every activity, overall the group was supportive and brought great energy. All the tour leaders did an excellent job managing a large group and ensuring everyone could make the most of the experience.
I found a good balance of scheduled activities/travel and personal time on this trip to South Africa. CharlieTheTraveler did not overwhelm me with too much to do and they allowed me time to explore on my own. I appreciated this, as I grew close to some of the group members and when we arrived in Durban, we had a fantastic time exploring the beach area. I felt safe in knowing that we were there as a group.
On safari, my mind was blown because I never expected to see so many animals up close in their environment. It was also mind blowing to see the countries and people and gain an understanding in how they live. I saw a t-shirt that said “Africa is not for sissies” and I agree.
