A comprehensive overview of beautiful Tunisia, including Ancient Carthage, well preserved Roman ruins, scenic Sidi Bou Said, Star Wars, and much more! Our night in the Sahara was impacted by hazy skies, but the camp was well managed and the dinner was delicious. Our guide was very knowledgeable about his Tunisian history and culture and stayed up all night the last night to ensure we were transported to the airport at 3am. The only negative was the camel “show” in Kairaoun. That is animal cruelty, and Explore should not support that.
The trip was very well organized with a great many different experiences….city, town , desert and mountains. Some of the drives were long between sites but our tour guide Mohammed kept us occupied with lots of detail about Moroccan life. The chance to visit two families one in Chefchaouen who cooked and serviced a meal in their home was a true delight. Our cooking class and then dining on our results with a family in Essaouira was very informative and no one left without a true appreciation of the cuisine of Morocco. The accommodation in the Riads was beyond description especially the ones in Rabat, Fez and Essaouira. The breakfasts were very adequate and the suggested choices for lunches and evening meals not included in the tour price were excellent especially the seaside restaurant in Essaouira. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this trip unless walking over rough grounds i.e. ancient steps, broken pavement, cobble stones and dodging mopeds, donkeys and delivery people with big carts in the medians would be difficult otherwise book this trip and enjoy Morocco for all it has to offer.
This was my 1st tour and 1st time using Explore and I would highly recommend them! I love that it was a small group of 12 and we had a fabulous tour guide, Mohammed! He shared so much of his knowledge and experience with us that it truly made the tour a wonderful way to visit Morocco! Although the highlights were many, having the last 3 days and nights in Essaouria, with lots of free time to explore or do nothing at the beach, was a great finish!
It was a lovely trip, with a very varied itinerary and beautiful scenery. Our tour leader had extensive knowledge, and was very informative and helpful. We also had some really good local guides. There were some long drives, but we had plenty of stops, a great driver and a comfortable minibus. It was great to see the changing scenery, so I didn't find it a problem. The accommodation was mostly really good, several with a traditional design, and always very clean. I wasn't particularly looking forward to camping in the desert, but the camps were so much more comfortable than I had anticipated, and they turned out to be great experiences.
Great trip, saw lots although some days waited a long time between meals or arrived at hotel late because the tour leader's time keeping is poor - 7.30am breakfast then no lunch until 2.30 is not good enough! Plus a "short walk" through a medina turned into an hour of standing around being talked at the day after the night at desert camp when you just want to get to the hotel and shower! My advice would be to make sure you save your money exchange receipts on arrival as they want to see them when you change it back later, and change your dinars back to euros BEFORE you go through security as the airport shops only take euros and there are no currency exchanges airside.
Great way to see Tunisia. Packed a lot in. Islamic cities, Roman ruins, Sahara desert and Star Wars. Guide a local which gave a good insight into the culture and religious aspect especially when visited Kairouan holy city. Locals friendly. My first Muslim country and probably the most tolerant. Accomodation was higher than had expected and western style. For me the night in the desert was the best. I went late March when no heat. My best to those of you who go in the summer.
