Africa Solo Travel

I was the only person booked on this tour starting June 5th 2026, so I ended up with a great "private tour". Explore and I were willing to change to a different tour date but my flights were not working out, so I stayed with the original plan. I had an excellent tour leader Salohy for the entire trip. A SUV was used for the trip - more agile than a tour bus at handling the tricky Madagascar roads - so we made good time on the travel days. The tour itinerary was closely followed in all cases including guides at the national parks. The favourites were Andasibe for the various types of Lemurs sighted and Isalo for the lanscape. All the accommodation was good - my "bungalow" at Ifaty was about 50' from the beach. There were very few tourists at the hotels as well as the parks. Weather was good with no rain but nights were cool 10 C and required a jacket - day time high 20-25 C. A great vacation done at my pace, since I was the only one around - many thanks to Explore and the local staff.

We had a wonderful trip. I have wanted to visit Namibia for many years and it lived up to my hopes and expectations. It was made all the more special by our excellent leader, Kastro, who looked after us so well. He was knowledgeable, caring, an excellent driver, great at spotting animals, with a good sense of humour - a true ambassador for his country. The lodges and hotels were great accommodation; all very different in atmosphere but very comfortable, though we found Hammerstein very cold. We would have loved another night at Otijwa to enjoy the calm and elegant surroundings. The itinerary was full and varied and we enjoyed all the different elements - informed all the time by Kastro's commentary and explanations. Explore provided excellent trip notes which helped in the planning and anticipation of the trip. I would recommend that it would be better to suggest taking South African Rand in currency rather than USD to save having to find somewhere to change them. It might be good also to recommend a jacket as well as a fleece for the cold mornings, and I found my collapsible walking poles very useful on a couple of the longer walks.

We had a great time touring this beautiful country. Our tour director is obviously knowledgeable about Morocco and its people and we enjoyed learning from him about both. Our driver did a super job as well. The tour was well organized and the multiple moving parts came together well. I would have liked some free time at the Medinas, and I think the approach to the carpets co-op could be rethought.

Our guide was excellent and went out of his way to enhance our experience. He was very well organised. The itinerary was great with all aspects of Moroccan culture and geography experienced. The accommodation was really good illustrating the welcoming nature of the Moroccan people, as were the home visits organised for us.

Sydney our guide was excellent. He is very knowledgeable about the area, culture and history both actual and geo-political. He is also a very good cook and jolly person to be around. I rate him 10 out of 10 and would highly recommend him as the guide to my friends taking the tour!

This was my first trip with explore and I couldn’t be happier with what I received. It was an excellent trip from start to finish. From the guide/local guides, to accommodation, to experiences available I enjoyed every minute of it. I felt safe and comfortable throughout the trip.
