Absolutely amazing trip. Sam our guide was phenomenal, his knowledge and insight in to Japanese culture was second to none. His infectious enthusiasm for showing us not only the sights on the tour, but other little nuggets made the trip exceptional. We had a fabulous group of fellow travellers. This was our first ever group tour holiday, and we will be doing this again for sure with Explore. Organisation was spot on, accommodation perfect and the transport arrangements, forwarding of luggage, all went without a hitch. Sam made the trip for us, it wouldn’t have been the same without him!

This was a great itinerary staying 3 days in Tokyo, 3 days in Kyoto, 2 days in Hiroshima and 2 days in Osaka. It covered all the most interesting and historic sightseeing and also covered rural areas visiting pottery place and tea plantation

This was a great trip and involved a lot of walking. Our travel director was superb and taught us about the culture throughout the trip which made it extra meaningful. My advice is to not go during the hot and humid months or when Japan is having a national holiday.

Excellent trip! Our tour guide was Noriko. She was patient, caring and extremely knowledgeable about each of our stops. It had been 30 years since I was in Japan and the new memories mingling with the old made our trip even more worthwhile. The accommodations were very nice and comfortable. Thanks again for the trip and the small group hospitality.

The Splendors of Japan tour offers a beautiful and widely scoped experience starting from the busy, metropolis that is Tokyo, right down to the wonderful introspective serenity that can be found in smaller spaces like Japan's Kotohira area. This is contrasted further by somber and sobering moments in places like Hiroshima, while time spent in Mt. Fuji helps us reflect on the brightest things in life. Japan and this tour is truly a unique introductory experience to the country that ensures we'll return there one day to enjoy even more that this unique place offers its visitors.

Had a fantastic trip to Japan with Explore!. The itinerary was excellent. Covered a lot of ground in an efficient way managing to visit a wide range of different locations/ sights without being exhausting as there was a balance of travelling and stays of more than one night in some locations. Our guide (Henrick) was great. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. Henrick went out of his way to communicate and ensured that everyone felt included. He provided optional tours in the free-time days and lots of suggestions for restaurants, etc. Really liked traveling by public transport and the balance of free time and group tours. All the accommodation was excellent. Very impressed by the organisation of the whole trip.

Japan Group Tours

No matter what your particular travel style might be, there is bound to be a Japan group tour to suit you.

  • City Sightseeing with a group in Tokyo: On a group tour of Tokyo, travel around the vibrant Harajuku district, the Meiji Shrine, and more with an expert local guide. Tokyo is a megalopolis with many facets and layers to it. With a guide by your side, you will get to visit the spots that many solo foreign travelers rarely venture.
  • Explore religious sites on a Kyoto group tourThere are plenty of shrines, temples, and UNESCO heritage sites in Kyoto, such as the ancient Nijo Castle. Japan group tours usually cover a lot of religious sites in the kyoto. And the best part is group tour parties can skip queues at some popular attractions.
  • Relax at a hot spring with your group in HakoneThe hot spring culture and onsen tradition in Japan goes centuries back. One of the best places to have an onsen experience is Hakone. Travel around the 17 different hot springs in the area, and relax with your traveling companions. Once you are all rejuvenated, head to the local Shinto temple, or get your fill of art at the Hakone Open Air Museum.

Japan group tours based on a budget

  • Luxury group tours in Japan: Take the benefits of having a tour guide specific to your group, get unique insights into the Japanese way of life and recommendations for places to see and food to try. Get on an aerial tram ride at Mount Fuji or hop on a ferry to Miyajima Island, a luxury group tour in Japan will show you the best the country has to offer.
  • Budget group tours in Japan: If you are on a tighter budget in the notoriously expensive Japan, a budget group tour can be a great way to save up some money. Stay in affordable hotels and traditional ryokans inns, or share rooms with your fellow group travelers, split bills with your group in every step of your tour of Japan. Go on optional excursions like the Hakone Onsens and benefit from a reduced group rate.

Tips when doing group tours in Japan

  • If you want to see Japan’s famous cherry blossoms in your group tour, book your trip between March and May.

  • Get the meeting points or accommodation for your group tours written in Japanese. If you are trying to find it again after spending some free time exploring, you can simply pass the address to a taxi driver.
