Osaka has a reputation for being a little more playful and a little less conservative than other Japanese destinations. The blend of old and new architecture, extensive parklands, and lively night spots that make an Osaka holiday so worthwhile. A trip to Osaka is therefore a great way of seeing the lighter side to the Japanese character and enhance your Japan tour.

Japan Unrivalled was amazing! It took me everywhere that I wanted to go for my first trip to Japan! Our trip manager was so knowledgeable (and funny), as were our incredible local guides. I learnt so much and saw so much, I can’t wait to come back to Japan!

Our leader ( predictive text keeps changing name) was excellent went way beyond her leader duties. She give 110% to her job. Always happy smiling and giving information about the country

I had an outstanding time in Japan! I definitely recommend doing all the extra excursions that isn’t part of the shown itinerary even if they seem out of your comfort zone as well as have something planned for when you have free time. SN: Take advantage of the 7-11 snacks there. They are bomb!!! And don’t sleep on the sandwiches!

The itinerary was very good. I partcularly liked the special experience of meeting the Hiroshima survivor after visiting the very moving museum. She was absolutely amazing. I just wish world leaders could also hear her presentation. In Kyoto I thoroughly enjoyed the Maiko's performance while we ate an excellent lunch. Another of my highlights was visiting the Kubota Icchiku Museum. The kimonos on dispaly were breathtaking and magnificent. The entire itinerary was very well planned.

I ithink the itinerary is very good. Mostly it is excellent but sometimes you dont have enough time to explore the place. In tokyo you dont explore really much but thats okay. You can arrive like us 4 days Prior to the tour and visit on your own. Problem was in kanazawa when we were in the geisha district with the golden leaf ice cream. We went to the golden leaf experience and then to the shop. When you finish its already time to go to the bus so you cant look properly around the district and get some ice cream with golden leaf. In the afternoon there was some freetime so we went there but it is like 25 minutes by walk and thats too much. We did it but we have good physical condition. I can imagine that if someone is tired or cant walk Longer distances it can be problem. Like you dont need to go to the golden leaf experience but thats part of the whole experience. I think it would be great if there was around 30 minutes more time so after the experience and the shop you have enough time to walk around and get some ice cream. Overall great tour with great guide. I can fully recommend

Simply Japan was everything I hoped it would be, and more! The variety of experiences and destinations, the transport arrangements, the accommodation were all really good. Our guide Tom Fallon was really excellent - he really did play a key role in making a first class trip. He helped us navigate the cultural differences in Japan and his tours were very informative. I learned a lot about japanese culture and customs. His choice of restaurants was also excellent. Thank you, Tom, for a really memorable trip. I will definitely travel with Explore again.

Osaka — Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Osaka Tour Highlights

  • Taking up more than 100 hectares in the city centre, Osaka-jō (Osaka Castle) is an impressive area combining history and natural beauty at any time of year.
  • Wander the vibrant neon-lit streets of the Dōtombori canal district to get a sense of what modern Japan is all about.
  • Satisfy your taste buds at Kuromon Ichiba Market, where Osaka’s restaurants buy their seafood, but also a great place to sample local cuisine cooked while you wait.
  • Delve beneath the waves at Japan’s foremost aquarium, Kaiyūkan, home to a giant whale shark, penguins, manta rays and almost innumerable species from Japan’s Pacific seas.
  • Explore the impressive five-storey Shitennoji Temple pagoda, Osaka’s oldest temple, dating from an incredible 593AD.

Osaka Travel Tips

  • Summers in Osaka are hot and humid, and winters can be cold, so consider visiting during spring or autumn when the climate is best suited to tourism.
  • Like all Japan’s major cities, Osaka has an efficient public transport system that makes getting around the city a breeze. Look out for the Osaka Amazing Card, that offers unlimited travel, and free entrance to many of city’s main attractions.
  • The high-speed shinkansen bullet train means more expensive Japanese destinations can be easily reached as a day trip. For instance, Kyoto is just 11 minutes away!
  • The Shinsaibashi and Namba wards, close to the entertainment complexes of Dōtombori are probably the best places to stay as a visitor to the city.
  • Make sure you stay out until after dark to catch the city’s neon lighting at its very best!
