The trip was excellent from start to finish - few things stood out: The pace. I'll admit I went in skeptical. I was braced for the herded-through-a-place feeling that's hard to shake on group tours, and instead found an itinerary that genuinely breathed. Free time in Porto, an afternoon at leisure in the Alentejo, a full day in Lisbon — there was structure, but never crowding. That balance is hard to design and easy to under-deliver on, and Collette nailed it. The access. This is the piece I'm hardest to convince on, and it's where the trip surprised me most. The home-hosted dinner outside Porto, the olive press in Marvão, the Alter do Chão stud farm, the fado evening on our last night in Lisbon — none of that exists without years of relationship-building on the ground. I couldn't have arranged any of it from my laptop, and I understood that intellectually before I left. I understand it differently now. The inclusions and logistics. Sixteen meals, every transfer, every entrance — flawlessly executed. The hotels were thoughtfully chosen — Monverde in the Douro especially was a standout. And I have to call out our tour guide specifically. He was, hands down, the best part of the trip. His knowledge of Portugal — the history, the regions, the food, the small details — was exceptional, but what made him remarkable was the way he held the group. Twenty people is a real act of stewardship, and he made it look effortless. He read the room constantly, gave us the right amount of context without overdoing it, and managed the rhythm of long days with grace and humor. He's a tremendous ambassador for Collette and for Portugal.
I loved our tour guide Bernardo 🩵 he was very knowledgeable .. really intelligent and helpful. I feel the tour was more strenuous than a level three! The castles, were my least favorite part and the farewell dinner our last evening was subpar, I feel our last night could have been at a nice restaurant! That offered individual choices. The spiral to the crypt in sintra was one of my favorite memories! 🌸
Lovely to have dinner in people’s homes.
Enjoyed the rural accommodations and areas. Cities also nice.
Being able to stay in the hotels three nights each was wonderful. The weather was perfect almost the food was delicious and the pace was great. Although I had already been to several of the places for the most part sights new to me were on the schedule. Nice small group.
