Reviews of our Portugal Tours for February
Feedback from guests who toured Portugal during February.
We really enjoyed discovering Madeira. Our guide Benny was awesome, informative, enthusiastic, caring and a great leader who showed us the best parts of the island. We walked alongside levadas and clifftops avoiding the main tourist rails wherever possible, the walks were easy and could have been longer but time was taken as Benny explained all aspects of the culture and terrain of the island as we went along. On the last day we climbed up to Miradouro do Juncal which was very satisfying. The hotels varied. Hotel Ol Colmo in Santana looked 'tired' and in need of attention. the fibreglass bath in our room was 'pitted' and stained and in need of replacement and there was also a resident cockroach in the bathroom! The hotel in Porto Moniz was light and airy and spacious and Hotel Do Carmo in Funchal was centrally placed although the rooms were small. Benny directed us to local restaurants in the evenings which all served a variety of fish and meat dishes, as a vegetarian who loves vegetables, I struggled to find suitable dishes despite all the vegetables grown on the island. There were a few excellent establishments and a couple that should be avoided in future. The cost of eating out every night added considerably to the cost of the holiday, I would have prefered a cheaper option or a choice of a restaurant or a cafe. I would definitely recommend this holiday to anyone who loves walking and exploring as Madeira ia an amazingly fertile island with some fantastic trails and beautiful gardens to visit.
Even though this was my first solo trip from London to home and back, I never felt alone, as the bus was my constant companion throughout the journey, along with my comfortable hotel stays. The trip was well-organized, with ample breaks and friendly, professional drivers who ensured a smooth and hassle-free experience from one destination to another. Despite traveling with people from different backgrounds and languages, I felt safe and welcomed, making new friends and enjoying a rich cultural exchange. The enthusiastic guides, full of energy and knowledge, provided engaging explanations, making every stop enjoyable without feeling exhausted or bored. The tour covered major destinations efficiently, with well-coordinated time management, caring guides fluent in English and other languages, and insightful local guides for in-depth exploration. Overall, the stay, coordination, and execution were excellent, and I look forward to booking another trip with Bookmundi. The experience was well worth the price, and I highly recommend it to my friends and family for their future travels.
Hiking in Madeira was a great experience - I would recommend it if you are interested in a mix of beautiful scenery, challenging physical activity and experiencing both a smaller town (Santana) and larger city (Funchal) in Madeira.
We had wonderful trip with private tour guide Carlos. He is very professional, very knowledgeable and funny. He understood my husband's passion for photography, our interests of history and culture, our love for great food. Thank you, Carlos
Art lovers like me, this one’s for you. Portugal dazzled with art and faith. Two features jumped out immediately: Lisbon’s Monastery of Jeronimos, a Manueline masterpiece and Fatima, a place of deep meaning. Wandering Nazare’s windy cliffs and watching Atlantic surf pound felt elemental. Obidos’ castle and ramparts invited daydreams of knights and medieval poets. The Gothic arches of Batalha took my breath away. Porto's tile-covered churches and artistic heritage felt soulful as we sampled local port wines beside the Douro River. The highlight was Coimbra, Europe’s amazing academic city, steeped in history and tradition. The old university chapel’s 18th-century Portuguese Baroque design left me speechless. Guides were enthusiastic and informative. If you love art, faith, and ocean air, this tour is a rich tapestry not to be missed.
Madeira is a lovely island although we couldn’t do all the planned walks because of the weather. Benny our guide was brilliant and made sure we could get out walking on alternative routes. Benny was very knowledgeable on local history and plants and enjoyed showing us Madeira. Enjoyed staying at the different locations, the food was amazing. Enjoyed being able to swim and the Porto moniz sea pool was a great experience. Enjoyed the company of good bunch of people and another enjoyable explore trip.
