The trip to the Douro Valley was excellent in its variety of terrains, wine tastings and walks. But what made the trip were the 2 leaders -Carla and Fernando. Carla not only has a wealth of info to share but she really cared that we all were getting the experience we wanted. She took so much of her personal time for us and totally extended herself to make our time memorable. Fernando was always there when we needed him. He seemed to pop out of the corner at just the right moments-in our walks or when guiding us. He’s a fabulous naturalist and photographer. I can’t speak more highly about the two of them!

Loved the variety of experiences walks, tastings, whale watching, rock pool swimming even the bus rides which were not too long to the various locations. Felepe was our tour leader. He was friendly, organized, always on task, very patient, and very knowledgeable about Madeira. He had a very strong passion for his country and the people. He taught us many things about the culture and ways of living in Madeira. It was a very enjoyable week

Rafael and Francisco from Algavarian Roots made this a memorable hiking,cultural and special experience. They were a fountain of knowledge and the visits to the olive making facility, the winery and the distillery added to the trip. Great hikes in various locations from the Monchique highlands to the coastal trails. But it was the caring guides who did it all. Driving safely, briefing us and Rafael helping and looking out for my wife on the steeper parts. They both were proud of this region and they and their families were connected to the land.

Great week with lovely weather, scenery, food & company. Walks were challenging enough, leaving each day at 8:45am & getting back around 3:30pm most days. Nice to be staying in a decent sized town that felt authentically Portuguese & had plenty of great restaurants for evening meals. Seafood was really great. Rosio is a perfect guide who was easy to get along with & very helpful & knowledgeable. We had the bonus of having Vince (a trainee guide) to help on our walks too.
