Reviews of our Portugal Self-Guided Tours
Self-guided travelers rate their independent journeys through Portugal.
We enjoyed our time walking the Portuguese Coastal Camino from Viana de Castelo to Santiago de Compostela. They expertly organised our accommodation, some meals and luggage transport for our 12-day walk.
The walk lived up to all expectations and the accommodation was comfortable and appreciated at the end of a long day of walking. While dinner was provided for most locations and satisfied a walker's hunger, sadly many of the establishments failed to showcase the food of Portugal and Spain.
Had a great time walking with 10 friends. The planning went smoothly thanks to the Auckland office staff. Everything was spot on - the accommodation, the meals, the information provided. Excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Portuguese Coastal Camino. We were fortunate to experience mostly beautiful spring weather throughout the journey. The organisation of the trip, including the coordination of hotels and luggage transfers, made for a smooth and successful walking experience. One of the highlights each day was the pilgrim dinners. After long days on the trail, it was wonderful to come together for a meal without the added stress of searching for somewhere to eat. It added to the sense of community and allowed us to fully enjoy and reflect on the experience each evening.
The trip was fantastic. The hotels were of a much better level than we expected and the owners/staff of all hotels were very hospitable and gracious. The dinners were all excellent as well, with much more variety and choices than one might hope for on such a trip. The luggage transfer worked flawlessly with only one exception, and even then we got our luggage back very quickly. We will definitely do other routes of the Camino with you guys. And… for those who are wondering whether or not to do the Camino… you will not be disappointed. My wife and I are experienced hikers and climbers, not new to adventure, but the experience of sharing a sacred route with so many other pilgrims, all carried by the same inspiration, is something we will never forget.
Food, accommodation, and bag transfer were all excellent. Speaking for myself, I found the extensive granite cobbles along much of the route hard on the soles of my feet, despite wearing quality, newish walking shoes.
