Itinerary
Short on time but eager to immerse yourself in French countryside charm? The 'Dordogne's Hidden Treasures on Foot – 8 Days' delivers a compact yet rich walking experience in the Upper Dordogne Valley. Covering a 100km circuit, this self-guided tour leads you through a tapestry of medieval villages, castles, ruins, and ancient caves—each with its own story.
Handpicked, family-run hotels serve up regional specialties, making every meal a celebration of Dordogne’s famed cuisine: think truffles, foie gras, and hearty local wines. The route, suited for those comfortable with moderate walking, winds through striking limestone plateaux and descends into wooded valleys, revealing gems like Carennac, Collonges-la-Rouge, and the riverside beauty of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne.
Eight of the villages you’ll visit are listed among France’s most beautiful, ensuring every day brings a new highlight. You’ll also encounter Rocamadour, a UNESCO World Heritage site dramatically perched on a cliffside.
What makes this tour package special is its expertly curated blend of culture, history, and gastronomy—all distilled into a manageable eight-day adventure. Perfect for experienced travelers and seniors seeking a taste of authentic rural France without the crowds.

A hike filled with stunning scenery, challenging climbs, and accommodation in interesting locations. Need to be well prepared both in fitness and for extreme weather conditions. It was a challenging hike that we thoroughly enjoyed.
The old towns of the Dordogne were fascinating, beautful and, in early October, virtually empty of tourists. The walking was manageable for my wife and me even although we are in our 70s. The only negative aspect was the meal included in our stay in Beaulieu. Otherwise, the meals were good to excellent and the accommodation was adequate for the basic price paid.
Accommodations on the trip were good as were most of the meals. Trip notes were too vague but the GPX saved the day. Overall a very enjoyable trip.
The rolling hills of the Dordogne provided a beautiful location for this walk. It is important to have hiking poles and water-proof shoes, however, as there were several parts of the trail that were muddy streams during the May, 2024 time of our walk. Small villages, friendly cattle, horses, and donkeys, were really our only distractions, with the occasional dog letting its owners know we were passing. We saw deer, a fox, and even some boar raced by us. The instructions and GPS are very important to use together, and do bring blister bandages, just in case.
Overall a good trip with some hiccups. Local contact in France answered questions right away.
