The journey culminates at Machu Picchu’s Sun Gate, where you’ll witness the ancient citadel emerge from the mist at sunrise—a truly magical moment. day 1CUSCO TO KM 82 (ON PRIVATE BUS) & WAYLLABAMBA TREK

Early morning (between 6.00-6:30 am), you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Km 82 on a private bus. On our drive to Km 82 from Cusco, we’ll drive through the famous Sacred Valley (Chinchero, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo). We will make a brief stop at Ollantaytambo for breakfast before resuming our bus journey to arrive at Km 82 at around 10:30 am.
Km 82 is the starting point of our trek. We will cross the Urubamba river and follow its left bank for about one and half hours before we encounter our first climb of the trek, which is Wilka Rakay. From here, we can have a spectacular view of the Inca site, Patallapta and the Kusichaca Valley.
The subsequent descent down to the Kusichaca river is straightforward. On the way to our first campsite, there are great views of the Urubamba mountain range with the snow-capped peak Veronica (5,750 m). We’ll follow Kusichaca Valley for approximately seven kilometers up to Wayllabamba (3,000 m), where we will spend our first night.

Guillia put a great self-drive tour together for us and Susana looked after us as we travelled. (Even when we got lost) The car and accommodation was good and the guides patient and informative. Only issue we had was parking in small villages, garages, and cities. Apart from the parking we had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, thank you.
