Peru budget tours
Peru is one of South America’s best-value destinations, but cheap trips to Peru still need smart planning. Food, buses, markets and hostels can be affordable, while Machu Picchu trains, guided treks, internal flights and Aguas Calientes hotels can quickly raise the total. Budget travelers can spend less on slow DIY routes, but Peru budget tours are useful when they bundle accommodation, transport, guides and hard-to-arrange highlights. Our low-cost Peru tours currently start from around USD 78 per day, with routes covering Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon and the Amazon. Use this guide to compare affordable Peru routes without underestimating the big-ticket costs.
We guarantee the best prices on all our tours. If you find a lower price within 24 hours of booking, we'll match it.

Budget Travel Tips for Peru
Budget separately for Machu Picchu
Do not bury Machu Picchu inside your normal daily budget. Ticket-only thinking is how the budget gets ambushed. The full cost can include a train or trek, shuttle bus from Aguas Calientes, timed entry ticket, guide, meals and possibly an overnight stay. Combined train, bus and entry costs can start around USD 120 and rise quickly. Plan Machu Picchu as its own budget line.
Use Cusco and the Sacred Valley strategically
Cusco is essential, but it sits at high altitude and can be tiring. Build in acclimatization time before major tours or treks. The Sacred Valley can help travelers adjust more gradually while still offering ruins, markets and strong cultural value. A slower route may look more expensive on paper, but it can prevent wasted paid tour days if altitude sickness hits.
Avoid overpacking the southern circuit
Lima, Paracas, Huacachina, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Puno, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu can fit into two weeks. They do not fit comfortably into one. Budget travelers should avoid paying for constant transfers just to say they covered more ground. Peru punishes sprint itineraries with buses, altitude and regret.
Eat menú lunches and market meals
Peru is excellent for food value if travelers avoid tourist-only restaurants. Use menú del día lunches, markets, pollerías, bakeries and local set meals. Make lunch the main paid meal and keep breakfast simple when possible. Cusco and Aguas Calientes cost more in tourist zones, so move a few streets away from main squares when looking for better-value food.
Choose the right trek for the budget
The Classic Inca Trail is iconic, permit-limited and often more expensive. Alternative treks such as Salkantay, Lares and Moonstone can offer strong value, but they still require guide and support costs. Budget travelers should decide what matters most: arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate, seeing remote mountain landscapes, or keeping the final cost lower.
Use tours for complex logistics and DIY for slow city travel
DIY works well for Lima, Cusco, Arequipa and slow bus travel. Tours become more useful when travelers combine Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon, the Amazon or treks. That is where included transfers, tickets, guides and timing can save both money and stress. DIY Peru is cheaper when the route is slow. A budget tour becomes persuasive when the route has too many moving parts.

This was our first experience with a fully guided tour. Cris, our tour manager, made sure that everyone was looked after and always willing to listen. The Machu Picchu experience was wonderful! Sacred Valley and Lake Tittaca were spectacular in their own unique way which is what made the whole experience so enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this trip and Collette
I felt that our tour leader and our support group looked after us exceptionally well. We were well catered for, the service was excellent and they were all very friendly and helpful.
It’s been my dream to visit the Amazon rainforest since I was 10 years old, and this tour truly didn’t disappoint! From the friendliest staff & guides who all went above and beyond to please me, to the magnificent nature and wildlife all around, it was everything I hoped it would be, and more! Accommodation: Clean and comfortable en-suite rooms, with mosquito nets so you don’t have to bring your own. It’s surrounded by beautiful nature so provides the ideal Amazonian experience (eg don’t expect a 5 star hotel on a trip like this!) The communal area is lovely, with hammocks perfect for relaxing or reading a book. There are plenty of beautiful trails around the lodge to walk around in your free time too. Activities: The activities were SO much fun! I saw so many different types of animals and insects, and the guides were so knowledgeable and passionate which was contagious! I learnt so much and feel much more connected to nature after my trip. The sun set tower, zip line and adventure course are a bit sketchy, and quite basic but do the job and if you like adrenaline and aren’t a health & safety freak, you’ll love it (like me!). The parrot clay lick is from afar so you don’t get to see the parrots up close (you need binoculars) and it’s not always that they lick the clay, but you’ll for sure see 100’s flying round - just to manage expectations. All the activities provided a unique view and experience of the Amazon - I highly recommend this itinerary. We didn’t have a campfire sadly, and I was hoping for more Amazon legends stories told. You’ll need to be flexible with the itinerary as it’s best to capitalise on when the weather is good for the activities - eg we finished all our activities on day 3, so day 4 i just chilled on the hammocks and went for a walk on my own (went on the canopy & sunset tower again as they were such peaceful areas) which I enjoyed after the busy few days! Food: The food was always plenty and definitely made with love ❤️ Communication: It was super easy to contact Lucho via whatsapp! He responds quickly, and makes sure that the schedule all runs on time. I highly recommend this experience!
The organisation was faultless and the trip was superb, and fully thought through to make it as rewarding as possible. The standard of the guide - Cesar Smith - was top class.
The trip organisation ticketing advice and most importantly our individual guide were exceptional good. The route was indeed challenging trekking in the high Andes up to 4,650metres altitude. Our guide Smithy was calm professional and very knowledgeable. The crew and pack animals made the trip possible. Food and water were provided in ample measure along with every camp. This trip along the Moonstone trail was fantastic with such awesome views of the Andes. A truly wonderful experience.
Do yourself a favor and book this incredible tour with Bamba. They were professional and quick to send me all the information I needed after I booked. The tour itself was incredible. I mean the salt falts are stunning, you can't go wrong here.
