Life Changing sounds dramatic, a little over the top perhaps. But for me, personally that's what this trip was.
Ten challenging but supremely rewarding walking days, each ending in comfortable accommodations with ample time to get clean, enjoy fantastic food, rest and recover for the next adventure. Three well-spaced rest days to relax and enjoy the charming towns of Chamonix, Courmayeur and St. Gervais. Breathtaking views of the Mont Blanc massif at all angles in various conditions. Life affirming moments overcoming the Cols (mountain passes). Delightful interactions with fellow trekkers from around the world, and exposure to French, Swiss and Italian cultures. Thrilling optional activities including tandem paragliding (highly recommended) and a visit to the amazing Aiguille du Midi.
We recently completed the Tour, having waited a few years after a 'covid cancellation' and whilst being fortunate with the weather (there were high temperatures before our trip and heavy rain afterwards), we enjoyed it immensely. The physical challenge was huge, perhaps not unexpectedly and the scenery utterly beautiful. If I could sum up our experience I'd say that our previous two major treks were in the Himalayas amongst mountains almost twice the height but this did nothing to lessen the majesty and sheer beauty of the Mont Blanc region. Any disappointments such as too much shopping for lunch and a poor hotel experience in St Gervais were minor niggles.
14 day trip with 10 days of walking
Absolutely breath-taking scenery every single day. Relying on public transport to get to the trailheads worked in all but one instance, so the Exodus team should take that into account should this prove to be a consistent problem.
This trip was truly once in a lifetime. The scenery is unmatched— a take-your-breath-away experience every single day. The hiking was extremely challenging but still doable, what a privilege to be able to push yourself! The organization and accommodations were great making for a smoothly run adventure.
Spent more time watching the terrain (each step) than the actual beauty of Mont Blanc. Crowded even in last week of June.
Excellent tour... Marvelous scenery, great food, good hotels and outstanding guide.
Great trip - knowledgeable guide, spectacular scenery , comfortable accommodation and good food.
What a trip, what an adventure, it was fabulous in every way, if you love walking, if you love the mountains, I'd highly recommend it. Firstly the scenery is epic, I don't think I've ever said wow so many times! The hotels like the food is a bit varied from the superb to the basic, but it all does the job and at the end of the day your often so tired as long as you've got something hearty to eat and some where warm and comfy to sleep that's all you need. Yes, it would be nice if all the rooms had ensuite showers and toilets but on the few occasions they didn't it was no big deal. One thing that is a big deal is the weather in the Alps, which I can imagine can make or break a trip. I went near the end of the season (the last week in August first week of September) and fortunately it worked out great - The trails were quieter and we were so lucky with the weather - it was in the 20s virtually the whole time we were there and we only had one day of rain. So in summary, if you're thinking about it, if you're on the fence go for it you won't regret it.
It was a challenging hiking trip but it’s worth every second of it. The scenery, the group and the accommodations are great.
Well organised and led. Good group size and enjoyable company.
The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is a legendary trekking route that circumnavigates the Mont Blanc massif, crossing through France, Italy, and Switzerland. It’s one of the most popular long-distance hikes in Europe, and after completing it, it’s easy to see why.
This hiking/trekking holiday was an amazing experience which included daily challenging hikes along with the incredible natural beauty of Mont Blanc, its' valleys and surrounding mountains. Our tour mates, 13 women and one man were all wonderfully kind and supportive of one another as we worked hard to meet our daily hiking challenges. I couldn't have completed this trip without many weeks of training yet I still found the river crossings and some of the terrain, loose rocks making foot placement challenging, to be at the top end of what I was comfortable with. Thank goodness for my waterproof boots and my tour group which kept a slow and steady pace.
This was a great trekking experience with plenty of good advice available from the Exodus team beforehand in terms of preparation and what to expect. We started in the second week of the trekking season and so encountered a good deal of snow, which for us was a first in terms of trekking. We also had two fairly short 'river' crossings, which we had to negotiate and again a first for us. Our group leader was an extremely experienced mountain guide who made a great deal of effort to keep the group focussed on the trail ahead especially when it mattered. Amazing views at the tops of climbs and probably not a good trek for those with a fear of heights!
Pictures don’t capture the unreal beauty of this trip! I took them anyway but by our last hiking day I was in tears from the accomplishment, the energy of our group, and the beauty of the valley and mountains. This is a trip of a lifetime! I always felt I was pretty active but this trip challenged me in ways I wasn’t sure I could finish, but am so happy to say I DID! We left smiles, tears, and friendships in the mountains. Just an incredible experience and our guide, Marià, is a beast who was turning around to do it all over again in 2 days! Absolutely impressive and he was an incredible guide that kept us motivated, safe, and smiling. Only a few Spanish minutes till the top.
If you're looking for a fabulous hiking trip around Mont Blanc with a guide, hotel accommodations, nearly all meals included, and luggage transport, Exodus Travels is an excellent choice.
I'd hiked in the Chamonix area before, so I knew it would be stunning, but the variety of incredible scenery as we went round to the Swiss and Italian sides exceeded my expectations. The weather was extreme - 35 degrees for the first few days, then rain and finally sleet, snow and full-on winter conditions - don't ignore the trip notes advice on clothing! Our guide, Mike Napier, was exceptional, managing the group with expertise and humour throughout.
A huge thank you to our guide Mike who gave us excellent advice each morning and managed to keep us all motivated and together each day The weather is unpredictable with extreme heat for the first week and one day of rain, snow and ice so be prepared! The food was good, the hotels were clean although some were basic due to the remote locations. The staff were great. Some days were very tough but the views were worth it and Mike rewarded us with Jaffa Cakes and M&M’s.
Overall excellent trek with a compatible group and an amazing guide, Augustine.
Had the best 2 week holiday ever Our guide Mike was full of positivity, humour and knowledge. We trusted him with our lives! A wonderful group came together Views Views Views
Sometimes you do a trip confident that it will give you great memories for many years to come, even a feeling of awe. For us TMB comes into this category. Let’s be clear from the onset - this a physically challenging trip - over 10 walking days we covered c 100 miles ascending c 32K feet (higher than Everest) and descending c28K feet. Din’t expect glitz - the trip takes you off the beaten track. Some properties are basic (no en-suite WMC and/or shower). Others. In particular the Hotel Richemonde in Chamonix where we started and ended the trip, had great character. Staff took great effort to make us welcome. Lunch is basic, but has to be sourced in locations where choice is limited. For us such details are relatively inconsequential given the stunning scenery we saw (we were blessed with great weather each day bar one). So all in all a genuine trip of a lifetime giving us memories to treasure.
A great challenge with a wonderful guide, Hristian
We had an amazing trek with spectacular scenery. Each day was carefully planned and we had a full briefing of what was to come. We were helped by wall to wall sunshine every walking day which meant we could make the most of the views. Our group of eight all got on well and walked at a similar pace which meant we were always together as a group. Lunches were made from supplies bought by the guide and were varied and plentiful. The hotels were more than acceptable with a few excellent.
This is easily one of the best trips I’ve ever done - I had an absolute blast and highly recommend it! The TMB itself is just incredible, words can’t describe how beautiful it is. Every day was different and the hiking was just so much fun. Just make sure you have a good level of fitness or you won’t enjoy it as much as you should! I really enjoyed the group dynamic and was happy with the accommodation - we had two nights in what I’d class as hostel style accommodation (private rooms with shared bathrooms but sink in room which was good!) and the remainder in 2/3* hotels. Rooms were spotlessly clean, beds were comfy and hot showers were plentiful which is exactly what you need after a day on the trail! :) Food was so good throughout - Lunch has never tasted better!
This trip proved to be a brilliant way to hike five valleys, three countries, and enjoy stunning Alpine scenery en route. Accommodation is generally good, and the food hearty & plentiful but it is all about terrific walking territory in the shadow of the Mt. Blanc massif. Lots of "Wow" moments. Do not underestimate the hiking fitness required with each walking day being 10-12 miles (16-19 km) with ascents of 1,000 m - 1,600 m (3,000' - 5,000') and corresponding descents. However the pace set by our guide Kim was sensible throughout so we had time to chat as we walked, take photos and enjoy the wonderful views. Trekking time was generally 6-8 hours each day albeit actual walking time was consistently around two-thirds of this. The other third being photo stops, coffee/ice cream stops (lots), two lunch stops (eating little and often was good advice), etc. Rest days were well placed in the timetable and meant that we all completed the 110 mile (180 km) circuit in good shape.
You will not be disappointed with this trip: stunning vistas every step of the way, great sense of achievement, great people; including John, our exceptional Mountain Leader and lovely hot chocolate and tarte myrtille at the mountain refuges.
The tour excellent from start to finish. The walking was well planned and supported brilliantly by John our mountain guide. The hotels were good and arrangements for transfer of our gear worked without a hitch. One of the best holidays we havd ever had.
If you're into nature while also having some level of comfort, this is the perfect tour. We had some awesome days. Expectations were high, but honestly, were exceeded.
Best trip in a decade. Combination of stunning vistas, hiking, culture and food. Jenny our guide was superb. Better named the “Tour du gormet”. “5km to best gelato, 7 km to Prosecco, 8 km to tarte framboise”. Or that can be translated to first breakfast, second breakfast, first lunch, second lunch. Lots of hiking - don’t underestimate the impact of5 days of 2000 to 4000ft and 10 plus miles at the beginning of the trip. However there is then the best hot chocolate in Italy- more a chocolate fondue to look forward to. Bon appetit!

My husband and and I really loved this walk. The scenery every day was simply spectacular. The accomodation was very comfortable and food provided for us was top class. We had quite a small group of 7 of various nationalities and we all muddled along together very well. I found our trek leader to be very helpful with advice on what to do on days off etc. He was always encouraging along the way and informed us of points of interest, landmarks etc. I did find the walk to be quite challenging and anybody interested in doing this trek needs to have a fairly high level of fitness. I would recommend Exodus travel to my friends, expecially the Tour du Mont Blanc trek.
A thoroughly enjoyable trek through France, Switzerland and Italy. It's a lovely feeling to walk everywhere (with the occasional use of local buses). The hotels and auberges were comfortable and we were well fed throughout the trip. There was a large choice of food and fruits for packed lunches which we made ourselves, choosing as much as we wanted. The walking was fabulous, I loved seeing the different scenery and villages.
This trek (early July '18) was phenomenal. this is my first real trekking holiday and I have to tell you, I am converted now. the scenery all along the way is spectacular, and different each day! Going through 3 countries, more than 170 kms, and going from towns and villages to a handful of coffee drinkers at a refuge at 2000+ masl, really added variety to this trip. The first 2 days might be challenging ones for most, but then your body and mind sync, and then your only focus is when to stop taking pictures and not to get your breath back. Your body will love it, you will be at peace and most importantly, super fit after it's all set and done. Work hard during the day, have a nice sleep on a comfy bed each night - what else do you want?
This was an excellent trip. The views are stunning and we were fortunate enough to have 9 dry and sunny days. Loved hiking from France to Switzerland to Italy and back to France. Being able to have a drink and cake at some of the refuges was a real bonus. There were quite a lot of snowfields to cross but we were very fortunate in that we were able to trek the whole route. Two weeks before and this was not possible.
I knew from the moment I arrived in Chamonix and saw the mountains and its glaciers that I had found the right adventure. Here was a chance to do one of the most acclaimed walks and the trip lived up to its billing. One can read about the walk and its vistas but nothing really prepares you for actually being part of it. I enjoyed the challenge of the walk, my fellow travelers and the quality of the lodging (OK, maybe not walking down the hall to the w/c in the middle of the night at our auberge stays--but a heck of a lot better than tenting). I enjoyed the evening meals and the variety of the cuisine. Overall the food was good and the huts offered a nice supplement to our sandwich lunch fare. The huts were a new experience and each one was unique from the food offered, to the hot chocolate to the w/c's.
I did this exact same trip with Exodus in 2010. I loved it so much, I did it again in 2017! And again, the Alps were stunning, exhilarating and life-affirming. Every day brings you a new view of green-carpeted mountains and clangy-bell cows (or goats), snow-capped peaks, massive winding glaciers, fresh-scented larch forests, and breathtaking views up and down. The hotel and restaurant people were friendly and generous with their servings and their service. I could do this again.. and again... I've hiked hundreds of miles in the Colorado Rockies and 800 miles of the Appalachian Trail, but this is my favorite trail in the world.
This was an excellent walking holiday, well paced, interesting interaction with fellow travellers & informative interludes from Ian our guide.
I did this trip in July 2017. It was the most magical, memorable and rewarding adventure trip I have ever done.! This trip is not about rushing from A to B. This trip is all about the journey. It is about having fun, it is about the magical scenery, it is about the culture of the people who live in the alps and most importantly it is about the people you meet along the way. You get out of this trip what you put in to it. Our guide Jeff was fantastic. He was professional, intelligent, engaging, fun, friendly, safety conscious, and most importantly very caring towards his customers. Jeff is the most inspiring guide I have ever met! The accommodation was great. We stayed in a variety of hotels, hostels and auberges. They were all of a high standard, clean, hygienic and all the staff were friendly. The staff at the Richemond Hotel in Chamonix were outstanding. They were very friendly and helped me practice my French which I greatly appreciated. Our meals were great, with plenty of choice. You must try the cakes at the Bovine Refugio! The hiking pace each day was good. It was steady, however you could stop and take photos whenever you liked or even just stop for a few minutes to ' soak up nature'. I liked our exercise session every morning after breakfast. It was a great way to get our muscles ready for our long day of hiking. It also helped with team bonding as we always had lots of laughs during this time, watching each other trying to balance on one leg and hopping about. If you want to be inspired, have fun, and go on an epic adventure, go with Exodus!
This trek coupled with excellent weather and brilliant company, ranks as one of the most enjoyable adventure tours we have undertaken in the past 10 years. It was challenging at times, and the days were usually long, but that first ice cold beer never tasted better. Constantly changing scenery, beautiful flowers and butterflies makes for a photographer’s paradise. Our advice if you love walking in stunning scenery is to do the trip while you can, the sense of achievement for us was as satisfying as completing Kilimanjaro.
Absolutely fantastic trek. With only two exceptions we had beautiful weather for the whole trip even though the forecast had been varied. The grading of challenging / moderate was spot on and at times it felt tough but the spectacular scenery all around and the sense of achievement more than compensated for the harder parts. Loved every minute of it.
We had an excellent Tour de Mont Blanc (TMB) in July 2015, enhanced by perfect sunny weather and no rain. Our guide was brilliant and had great knowledge of the walk and the geography, and really ensued we got the most from the experience. The scenery is breath-taking. There are some tough climbs but the guide ensured all of our group completed each walk whatever pace they were comfortable with.
A fascinating, varied walk that is very doable if you are reasonably fit. The description of the walk on the web site is good & fits in with what you get.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable trip even though the terrain could be hard work at times.
