Camp in stunning mountain settings, sharing beautiful views with your small group
Traverse three countries and some of Europe’s most awe-inspiring landscapes with the “Tour du Mont Blanc Camping Trek.” This 15-day guided trekking tour circles the mighty Mont Blanc, passing through France, Switzerland, and Italy. Designed for experienced travelers ready for a challenge, the route covers rugged alpine meadows, glacier views, and picturesque villages.
Ten days are dedicated to trekking, interspersed with three carefully placed rest days in charming towns—Courmayeur, Les Contamines, and Chamonix—where you can unwind in spas, explore markets, or try paragliding. Nights are spent camping in comfort, with spacious tents, hearty three-course meals, and baggage support provided. The trekking itself is demanding, often involving long days and multiple mountain passes, but the spectacular scenery and camaraderie of a small group make every step worthwhile.
The tour’s main activity is trekking, highlighted by expert mountain leaders and seamless camp logistics. Its standout feature is the immersive camping experience, allowing you to wake up to breathtaking views not accessible from hotels. For those seeking a classic European trekking adventure with comfort and camaraderie, this trip is truly exceptional.
This camping trek was challenging with many beautiful vistas. The mornings were busy so that we could start moving by 7:45 or 8:00. We had many 1000 meter accent days with similar descents. Our weather was hot most days which added to the challenge. We sometimes used lifts to get up or down, especially in the Chamonix valley. Our guide, Egle was very calm with a lovely smile to help us along. Albert, our camp organizer kept us well fed and was always ready to offer any help we needed. We had an excellent group of mostly very experienced hikers. The two nights without showers meant we had to wash as best we could. Overall an excellent experience.
This was amazing trip from the views from your tents in the morning switchbacks for breakfast🤣 treking through the forests and seeming amazing views from every which way absolutely amazing
This is a fantastic trek - doing it in June meant there was still some snow on the route and lots of wild flowers, including orchids. We camped in some great locations with the most stunning mountain views.
This was a challenging trip, but well paced. Every long climb was rewarded with spectacular views, and often a cake at a refuge. It was great to be part of a large, friendly group - everyone helped each other out with the camp pack down in the mornings, and encouraged each other along the way. The satisfaction of completing the circuit, and being able to look back at the mountain passes we'd covered was huge.
This is an excellent trek. Definitely a challenging hike as you are either going up or going down - both can be as tough! This tour is definitely worth the challenge though - the scenery is spectacular every day of the hike! Exodus have organised a great trek, with welcomed rest days in between hiking days. The campsites are great - a couple of wild ones with little amenities, however this gives you the opportunity to bath in the rivers to sooth those tired feet!
Exodus Travel provided excellent trip planning and booking support. They followed up with timely information. A great adventure travel company! The TBM camping trek itself was very demanding but at the same time thrilling and rewarding. I found the ascents and descents to be equally difficult and challenging. My stamina, endurance and physical skills were continuously tested. The panoramas were exquisite and at every twist and turn along the trail, I was surprised by another equally beautiful scene. I completed the trek feeling healthier and stronger.

This trip was a fabulous challenge, hard but very rewarding. We had some big thunderstorms to contend with & a good amount lying snow in July (spikes required). Luckily the sun was out for the big view, high pass days. The scenery was just awesome, stunning mountain vistas, wildflower meadows, pretty villages and much more. A great sense of achievement, Loved it.
If you are a seasoned walker not afraid of some big hills, and enjoy seeing spectacular views, then this is the trip for you. Each of the 10 days of walking brought with them different challenges, offset by the amazing views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding peaks. Ably led by our Exodus leader, Maria, the group were encouraged to walk at a sensible pace each day, enabling us to reach our campsite mid-afternoon to enjoy some down time, before doing it all again the next day! Maria was incredibly supportive, checking in on everyone, yet took a sensible and safety-first approach when due to various reasons, people couldn't walk for a day or so, advising them not to try and to re-join the tour in a day or so. His knowledge of the trails and the area was excellent. The tents and sleeping mats (we hired) were fine for the trip. The tents were roomy enough for 2 and the mats comfortable enough for our weary bodies to get some decent sleep! 2 nights of heavy rain and not a single leak in the tent was also a bonus! The campsites are fine - 2 are very basic with no showers (be prepared for a cold wash!) and only a couple of basic toilets (lots of flies!), but the remainder have showers and often laundry facilities too. The two basic campsites are next to very refreshing rivers so this was also very welcome to cool off! Maris was assisted in camp by Albert, cooking us some delicious meals and taking into account dietary requirements. Vegetarians were catered for well but as a big meat eater, I did struggle having vegetarian meals for several of the nights. Be warned, Albert loves adding mushrooms to everything!! In Albert's van he had a fridge with an honesty bar (beer, wine, coke, chocolate) and also an extension lead to charge phones and devices. In the morning, we had to help load our bags and tents plus cooking bits into Albert's van. If everyone helps it is a 10 minute job. Walking days were challenging. Some days long and moderate, other days shorter but tough. The hardest day comes near the end of the trip, in my opinion, with 1500m plus of altitude gained! For those of you familiar with Snowdon, this is up the Pyg track twice consecutively, with similar gradients to match the top section! Lots of breaks make the walking and ascents achievable.
This trip was exactly as stated and expected and fulfilled a 10 year plus dream to walk in the Alps. The tents were roomy and provides bedding, comfortable and warm. The location of the camps were spectacular with amazing views and atmosphere. Camp food was plentiful and delicious, perfect for fuelling a full days walking. The arrangement of the trip made complete sense in respect of gauging group ability, easing in, resting up before tough stretches and preparation for the final days.
A challenging, but ultimately rewarding trek with awe inspiring views of an amazing and stunningly beautiful mountain landscapes. A real test of fitness on most days. An ability to adapt to testing conditions on each day’s walk and while camping (during heavy thunderstorms at times) definitely needed. However once we had finished, the sense of achievement was just so satisfying. A memorable trip we will never forget.
If you like hill walking and fancy an adventure, this has to be on your itinerary!
This ranks as one of my all-time favourite trips. The hiking was sometimes tough, with long ascents and occasional snow traverses, river crossings and snow bridges, but we were rewarded with fabulous, far-reaching views. Opening our tent-flaps in the morning to see snow-topped mountains was breathtaking. Our guide (Adrian) and cook/camp leader (Kieron) were excellent.
A very well organised and excellently led trek over an iconic alpine route. There are plenty of spectacular views of the Mt. Blanc massif and a good variety of trails from river valleys to forested climbs and from alpine meadows to rocky mountaintop paths.
This is a big walk with some long ascents and descents. The rewards are great, with awe-inspiring views, the satisfaction of significant achievement, and good companionship. The practical arrangements were well organised and the camp manager and guide both worked very hard to make sure everyone was looked after. The camping was comfortable and the food was great.
The trip was very well organised. The scenery was amazing. Fantastic views and trails. Our tour guide, Augustine, was exceptional, very knowledgeable about landscape and flora. He set a good pace, was very supportive to the whole group. Augustine is an excellent ambassador for Exodus. Our camp leader, Kieron, was equally good. The camp was well organised and comfortable. The equipment provided was very good. The tents had blackout linings which were very helpful. The food was excellent - Kieron is a very good cook. We really appreciated the tea, coffee and biscuits being readily available and the well stocked bar. All in all, a fantastic experience and we would thoroughly recommend this trip. The group was a great mix of ages (early twenties to mid sixties) and personalities. Alastair and Louise Bowie August 2023
A fantastic 10 days of walking up and down mountains with beautiful scenery.
We can’t recommend this trip highly enough - the trip is a challenging walk with more ascent and descent than Everest but the scenery, culture and experience are just outstanding. The sense of achievement on completing the TMB is amazing. Our group came from all corners of the world but we quickly formed a really close-knit group, together with our wonderful leaders Kieron and Shaun. The tents are spacious and the black-out means they stay cool, and dark in the mornings. Each day started with a chorus of unzipping the tents, and then we had breakfast and packed up the camp ready for the next days adventure. The trip is divided into 3-5 days of walking followed by a rest day, where you can chose from lots of activities, including chilling in the campsite, shopping, visiting a spa, e-biking, ascending by cable car or train to the glaciers, or even paragliding!! This allows tired legs to recover, and for everyone to have an adventure at their own pace. Kieron’s cooking was amazing, and we also ate out in restaurants on some nights which were included. The campsites are clean and quiet, and offer amazing up-close views of the mountains. Shaun was a great guide, with lots of local knowledge and he kept us all together, even on the toughest days. There was always time for coffee and cake at one of the many refuges or alpages along the route.
Just returned from two weeks walking the Tour du Mont Blanc. It was a fantastic experience, at times hard work, but every drop of perspiration was worth the effort. Excellent group camaraderie; everyone got on very well and the two groups leaders - Shaun and Kieron - were first rate. The evening meals were very good, often restaurant standard. Would whole-heartedly recommend the trip. Just make sure you are fit enough for the challenge of the long climbs.
I had a fantastic time on the trek and made some great new friends. Some of the uphills were hard work, but the amazing scenery took my mind off it. We were lucky with the weather, most of the time it was warm and sunny. We had just light rain for a couple of hours on one day. Then on the last day just as we finished the trek and sat down at a local pub for a couple of beers. The rain started to hammer down for a while. I highly recommend doing the Tour du Mont Blanc Trek. I found the correspondence I had with Exodus before the trek was very good. If I had any questions they would respond to my emails right away. We stayed at camping sites in two men tents for the entire trip. The tents had plenty of room and each morning we were required to pack our tents up before we started that day's trek. On the first day our guides Kieron and Mike showed us how to pack the tents up. After a couple of practices it became pretty easy to pack the tents up. And if someone had trouble with it, there was always someone there to help them out. At the end of each day when we arrived at the campsite, Kieron would have all our tents already set up for us.
The camping trek around Mont Blanc was great fun. Perfect combination of challenge, reward, and just a fun group of people to be with. Our guide, Mike, kept us on track on the trail with very convenient breaks at refuges and summits keeping a steady pace that all could manage while not micromanging the group. Kieron kept our camp put together in almost always changing locations and created lovely meals. The sites were all well chosen and almost all had some sort of shade/rain cover which was lovely.
What an amazing trip from start to finish. The weather was perfect which made the trip even more special. One day of mist and drizzle which spoilt the views but not the walking experience. Kieran's camp was fantastic, not to mention his cooking. It was amazing what he could produce out of his tiny kitchen. Loads of beer and wine. Tents good. Big enough to sleep two but not with bags as well so I paid extra for single use. Sleeping bag, mat and pillow also good quality.
What a fantastic trip. I didn't really know what to expect but I was blown away by the beautiful scenery and camping amongst the Alps. Our group and camp leaders Mike and Kieron were fabulous - fun, helpful and just great to hang out with. I'd do some training for the walk as it can be demanding but our group leader made sure the pace was manageable. We had a great group of people and I recommend the camping tour as we all became quite close pitching in and hanging out together. The tents were roomy and comfortable and the campgrounds we stayed in were also quite comfortable. Kieron made us beautiful meals, we certainly were fed well!! I definitely give this tour 5 stars, it's challenging, beautiful, and you'll make some life long friends.
Before I left my girlfriend was teasing me about spending two weeks camping with creepy crawlies and having to eat tinned spaghetti hoops every night. In truth it could not have been more different. Kieron the camp leader was great, tents were put up for us, beers were cold, the food was healthy, tasty and home cooked and exceeded all expectations. The tents were modern and roomy, I paid extra for a single but they are more than big enough for two. Campsites were good and the mat, pillow and sleeping bag I rented were all just fine. We were really well looked after. The trek was superb too - I'm a really pleased I chose to do the full thing.
This trip offers more of the TMB route than most of the trips that I looked into, but it doesn’t do it all. If you read the trip notes carefully you’ll realise that there is a section in Val Ferret which may be missed out, and the section from Courmayeur to Lac Combal is bypassed. When we were on the trip we realised there were two other bits to be missed out. From Les Houches towards Brevent, and from Plan Praz to La Flegere. The good news is that, if you do want to do the whole tour then it can be done within the trip: Val Ferret - get your leader to take the bus all the way back up to Arp Nouva, where you stopped the previous day, rather than at an earlier stop point. There is plenty of time, this is what our group did. From Courmayeur - you can catch a bus to Courmayeur on your day off, walk the route to where it drops down to the path to Lac Combal, & then walk down to La Visaille where you can get a bus back to Courmayeur/the campsite. Les Houches - either persuade your leader to take the bus back to Les Houches & start from there, or walk the missing section on the final day off Plan Praz to La Flegere - add this onto the final planned day. You then take the cable car down from La Flegere rather than Plan Praz (the ticket works for both) & that's the whole TMB done :)
The TMB is a fabulous tour & is thoroughly recommended. My insights would be: Going clockwise really does work in terms of getting the hill-legs trained up as the steeper climbs then come later in the tour. Note that this does mean that you have to do some ladders on the first day but if you take your time they are fine. The weather of course makes a huge difference & we were lucky enough to have mostly sunny days, with just a couple of days at the end which made us take alternative routes. The views are fantastic & there’s lots of wildlife about if you take a bit of time to look for it. The campsites were generally very good. Just be prepared for toilets without seats, & even some that are the old-style hole in the ground (which we successfully avoided as the campsites weren’t busy when we were there). The wild camps were lovely, particularly the one in Les Chapieux - this does require a wash in the nearby river, but the water is surprisingly ‘warm’ Most meals were in camp, but there were about 5 evening meals out which were very good. For the swimmers there are opportunities to swim on the first day in the lake below Lac Blanc, & at Champex Lac. I guess each leader/trip is different, but to give you a feel for it, a typical day is to wake up about 0630, get your kit sorted/bag packed, take your tent down, have breakfast, make your packed lunch so that you’re ready to go soon after 8. That is usually a ‘soft’ target as you’re generally just walking from the campsite, but one morning you do have to catch a bus. We were generally finished walking between 4 & 5pm. Charging points for phones etc ! These were available at all campsites but Les Chapieux. I would recommend that you take a power pack & charge that up, rather than leaving your phone/watch on the charging point - only to be safe, we didn’t have anything stolen, but you are on a campsite & losing a power pack would be less distressing than a phone/watch.
Like a previous reviewer I found this much harder that Toubkal or EBC. The walks seem to be up all morning and down in the afternoon. Some of the downs were very hard on the Knees. Despite this the effort was well rewarded with the stunning scenary. Having to put your tent away before brerakfast required some effort, specially if you didn't master the technique. Camp meals were always filling, and never went hungary. Although breakfast did get a bit repetitive. The group van always contained a cold beer at the end of the day, which was very welcome. I hired my sleeping bag and matt from exodus and the bag was nice and warm, but maybe the matts could have been a bit thicker. Really felt the rocks some nights. Would bring my own next time
Man what a trip! in equal parts stunning and tough - the TMB absolutely delivered. Every day we were treated with a gruelling ascent, a toe bashing descent and simply incredible views all the way through. The tour guide and the camp manager were just fabulous too - the guide wasnt just an IML but also a trained biologist clearly deeply in love with Mother nature - to learn a little about the local flora and fauna whilst also feeling completely at ease and secure knowing your guide has your back was just lovely - it meant we could concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other and just enjoy the ride. Our camp manager Vega cooked us some seriously delicious food on only 4 camp stoves - it smelled so good she had random campers coming up to ask what she was cooking! The camps where all lovely - some perhaps a little more loud than others but overall, as far as a camping trip goes, it was pretty darn luxurious. Would do this again in a heartbeat
Superb surroundings, excellent company, knowledgeable guide and friendly support staff
Our recent TMB was excellent. Not only did we have spectacular weather to go along with the stunning scenery we had two top notch guides in John and Emily. The pace John set for the 14 trekkers was bang on; resting when called for and pushing us as we needed to be coupled with a great 👍 sense of humour. Emily made certain out campsite was setup each evening after our long treks and cooked us fabulous meals given we were camping ⛺️. Her energetic personality provided a welcome spark especially at the beginning of the day. G Adventures in Peru 🇵🇪 were really great 👍 too but Exodus our did them with respect to quality of the guides and the excellent dinners. A little more variety in breakfasts and lunches is strongly 💪 recommended for sure. I would also suggest stretching the tour to 14 days given there are currently some extraordinarily long days of trekking. Another trip of a lifetime for me. Thanks John and Emily! 🥾
We did the TMB in July - 14 trekkers from Canada. John and Emily were our guides and they were amazing. I can actually say I learned how to walk again in the mountains with John's careful guiding instructions. By the end of the trek, we were able to trek straight up 4 km with a verticle of 1500 m. There is no way we could have done this without our amazing guides. I cannot say enough about Exodus and the people who work with this amazing organization. They are truly professional and we are well into planning our next group trek for July 2020 to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Can't wait!
I did the Mont Blanc camping Hike it late June 2019 with a group of 7. The first day i had doubts i would make it from the uphill climb, it was tough. I got in better shape as the trip progressed, i made it. 110 mile hike, the scenery was incredible, its just awesome. Exodus employees were great. If your in shape you can do this trip, we slept in tents, hike 1000 meters uphill some days. You break camp in the morning and hike to your next destination, the hotel group stayed in the hotel we camped two different trips
A really super trip. The leader Kim shared her love and knowledge of the mountains and kept our spirits high. Neil, our camp manager, cooked incredible three course meals every night, despite all our various dietary needs. It was a challenging trip but so much fun.
All went smoothly.
This was our first group travel expedition and it did not disappoint. We had been looking at this trip for a number of years through another tour company but we went with Exodus because of the supporting camping option which the other company did not offer (and a benefit that we thoroughly enjoyed). We found the entire experience to be very positive, professional and well organized with just the right amount of flexibility so that we didn't feel like we were micro-managed. Our mountain guide was experienced and did a very good job of watching over the group while allowing us to go at our own pace (within reason). The camp support leader was funny, helpful, and a fantastic cook. The near-perfect weather and jaw dropping views obviously played a big part in how much we enjoyed this trip but I definitely think that the quality of this trip was above the pack.
Fantastic experience with a great group! This is one of the great hikes in the world and a fantastic way to experience the Alps. The camping element added to the camaraderie of the group and saw us all bond quickly. Paul was an excellent leader, very knowledgeable on the mountains, nature and wildlife, his company and humor were very much appreciated! Kieron managed the camp to perfection with his excellent cooking and organisation, and always ready with an story to share. Don't expect to lose much weight on this trip!
Wonderful to get on this walk at the last minute. 11 other generous minded walkers. Lotte a talented leader and Pete a great cook and camp organiser.
This was an amazing adventure. I had never camped before nor had I ever trekked in the Alps, so lots of reasons to be a little nervous before I went. On reflection, any worry was unnecessary. The camping was fun and well managed. The scenery was amazing. And the trekking, although hard work at times, was entirely manageable and hugely rewarding. Incredible views. Wonderful people. If I could, I would do this all again. In fact I just might!
'It is what it says on the tin.'
A great route, planned well with rest days in the right place. The walking leader, John was knowledgable on the area and gave lots of information on the history of mountaineering in the Mont Blanc massif. We were very lucky with the weather and got stunning views every day. All campsites were as described in the trip notes and, with the exception of the two wild camps had all required facilities. Great food every night either cooked by Kieron or in a local restaurant. All in all a great trip.
One of the best treks I have ever done well organised, food fantastic and stunning Mountains. Great group.

This was an amazing trip from the breath taking scenery to the wonderful group dynamics to the scrumptious camp food and even the fact that we all had 3 man comfortable tents. The itinery was excellent and we were blessed with glorious sunshine and no storms for our 2 weeks. The leader paced our group very well and gave detailed instructions as to how much water we should pack each day. Our day packs always included our extra clothing and even though we hardly used It, we were fully aware of the likelihood that the weather conditions could change dramatically while in the mountains. The camp sites were in some of the most amazing places on the trips with glacier views or stunning lakes nearby. The showers and facilities were great and the 2 wild camp sites were fun where we enjoyed the basics but still got to go to a local hotel to eat. The food on the trip at camp was extraordinary and we got to make our own sandwiches from a wonderful selection of local produce. Be prepared to eat your own body weight in grub....you will need the energy. Not sure we all lost weight though;) Walking poles are a must and I have continued to use them since my return. Do take note of the packing lists and bring everything. I used it all. There were challenging days on this trek and training on real hills not just steps/stairs in my opinion is vital. We trekked in snow, over some difficult river crossings and were travelling up steep gradients for many hours at times, but every step was worth it when we experienced the best views or took advantage of a cool drink or coffee at the many refuge stops. Budget for these stops the prices vary from country to country, you only need Euros. We were always given ample time to relax and Paul told us great spots for photos. It was best to keep up with the group as much as possible and although I took loads of photos I would suggest you do not stop and lag behind, you really do get time to take everything and have a wonderful record of your trip on your return. Overall this was the adventure I hoped for and went way beyond my expectations - thank you one and all.
The trek around Mont Blanc must be on everyone's bucket list. Whether using hotels or camping, this clock-wise trek is divided into sensible chunks with well planned rest days. The Alps provide such wonderful views on a scale that does not overwhelm like the Himalayas or the Rockies. We were blessed with 9 days of wonderful weather, which undoubtedly enhanced the experience. The camping option provides a much more intimate and 'real' experience as long as you can cope with 'bad weather' camping! Our leader and 'chef' were first class and together with the sound organisation made for a fulfilling trip. A great trek and great memories.
Where do I start with this trek? We hiked about 200km over 13 days and saw stunning mountains, chamois and the odd wooden animal. We jumped into lakes because #yolo, sang Disney and Beyonce songs as a group when inappropriate and constantly swapped jokes/stories/pantomimes. Throw in a plank competition and a deep discussion on true love and you would think I signed up for this trek with good friends. Nope. I met 5 lovely strangers and our very own Yorkshire-raised John "Bear Grylls" Briggs on this trip and we had a ball of a time over two weeks, capped by the team paragliding off a ridge and cheering Argentina at a pub in Chamonix just for laughs. Would I do this again? Absolutely.
This was my first hiking holiday with Exodus. It won't be my last. I chose camping as I wanted the total outdoor experience and I chose Mont Blanc because of its iconic beauty and it is just the right side of challenging! I wasn't disappointed. The two week trip is well planned and organised. There are several rest days which I didn't think I would need but were welcome and gave us a chance to explore the beautiful villages we passed through. There were 10 in my team - all ages from around the world - and I enjoyed getting to know every one of them.
Fantastic trip, amazing views, campsites, group, leader( John B) and camp manager (Egle). The trip runs like a well oiled machine allowing you to just relax and enjoy. The itinarary is well planned with prefectly timed rest days and varied but not too long or demanding walking days. This was my first organised holiday and I would highly recommend it to others.
I would highly recommend this trip if you are considering a trekking holiday. The views of the Alps from Switzerland, Italy and France were beautiful. The trek itself was hard but doable if you train ahead and it's far more enjoyable too. Camping was fun. Really helps to bond with the group. I'm glad I took this option over the Hotel version.
Camping and walking trip around Mt Blanc. Beautiful scenery, a great group of people and our guide - John and our camp manager Egle made everything extra special. Effort and speed of walking was very well managed. I don't think anyone felt that it required a major effort to keep up with the group but at the same time you knew that you had earned your meal at the end of the day! The ascents and descents bought a sense of achievement and of course always the reward of fantastic scenery. Each day provided different scenery and the always present mountains. It is truly an excellent trip - manageable but challenging walking with well paced days that had us covering appropriate distances, managing the ascents and descents but also time for coffee breaks, scenic lunch stops and afternoon tea breaks. The camping, tents, meals and facilities were all excellent and comfortable.
Well organised trek through France, Switzerland and Italy. Stunning views and good quality campsites used throughout the trek with just the right amount of rest days. Challenging last few days of walking but well worth it for the stunning views
Have recently returned from the Tour of Mont Blanc camping trek - led by John Briggs. The trek and itinerary was well organised, varied with a couple of challenging days at the end. John is an informative amiable chap who was well supported by his colleague Agglia who saw we were well nourished and hydrated. Fabulous views, well worth the effort, to be recommended.
