I followed the instructions regarding labeling my luggage precisely but even so my bag still didn’t show up on the first day. Travel light should be stressed as many hotels involve hauling your bag up many flights of stairs. Lifts are rare. Meals were mostly excellent.
This is the third Camino that my wife and I have hiked a section of and it did not disappoint. We hiked from Le Puy to Conques. The scenery was beautiful and they delivered everything as promised. The accommodations were all located well, they were clean and our luggage was waiting each day. The GUIBO app worked very well, although I think that some more data around daily landmarks and items of interest could be loaded in to help with planning things such as food and water for the coming two days. Having the demi pension worked very well as restaurant choices were very limited in the small towns that we traveled through. We also thought they did a great job in breaking up the stages to manageable distances making the hiking very pleasant. This was our second trip using them. They are a class act and we look forward to using them again on future trips.
A scenic, enjoyable 3 week trek through the Lot valley.
Organised well, quality accommodation, and the fact that dinners were included most of the time was very welcome and a fun way to share food at communal tables. The app and track notes were easy to follow and worked well.
Trip was excellent. Just a couple of hiccups re accommodation
Well organised with the support of a good app.
From the moment we enquired and booked the team were amazing. It was a great trip and having all the logistics sorted for us made the walking the priority. The few hiccups we had with luggage transfers and meals were sorted quickly. Le Puy to Conques was a beautiful Camino to start with, but a warning, the feeling at the end of it was a feeling that it was not the end!!
The walking was good with some long days interspersed with some shorter ones which was nice. The accomodation for us was varied from spartan hostel type accommodation to more relaxed hotel settings. We enjoyed good weather in October with mild days and plenty of sunshine. The towns were beautiful to walk through with plenty of wonderful old buildings, bridges and churches along the way. The scenery was largely rural with lots of farmland, some forestry plantations and some smaller areas of bushland and natural forest. We were disappointed with the lack of wildlife and birdlife during our 230kms of walking never really seeing anything of note although we were looking hard each day. This was such a contrast to walking in Australia as it seems the French love of hunting and eating wild game has taken its toll. Having breakfast and dinner organised and prepaid each night took some pressure off but as a vegetarian travelling in France no choices of meal were ever available and you had to eat what you were given which was often very ordinary to say the least. We really struggled for nutritious and enjoyable dinners whilst on the walk as rice and pasta dishes seem to be off the menu in rural France!
Fantastic trip and the second time we have done it, although the first time with UTracks. The accommodation was varied and really depends on the towns you stay, as some are small and have limited options. We had a fantastic room and meal at Aumont Aubrac. The Guibo app provided was a fantastic tool which is much better than paper instructions. Full marks to UTracks for being so responsive and providing a wonderful experience.
Fabulous trip, all went to plan - beautiful countryside.
The walk was great. The baggage handling worked well. The accommodation was excellent throughout and we had a great time.
In general the 12 day trip was absolutely FABULOUS. However, given our age (mid seventies) I would have preferred some days walk to have been spread over two days. With only one exception the evening meal was a gastronomic delight. (The over-cooked chicken thigh & chips was just a bit "fast food").
Our journey along the GR65 from Le Puy to Conques was fantastic thanks to the support of UTracks. From the pre-trip planning support to the detailed trek information, everything was organised so we only had to concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other. A great trip!
The walk itself was fabulous. Accommodation very variable and for what we paid disappointing.
Did section from St Privat to Conques and I would say it’s more beautiful and the landscapes more varied than the stage from Conques to Cahors. Guesthouses were all lovely each with character and charm but do take your own soap and shampoo as it’s not always provided. Had a wonderful time. Not too many people on the track and even fewer English speakers so my French improved very quickly.
Our trip was excellent. The accommodation was variable between hotels and chambres d’hôtes, always clean and comfortable. The Way itself is very easy to follow as it is well marked so we hardly needed a map but the information provided on the app was useful to plan the next day’s walking. Food at the accommodation was all good and baggage transfer worked very well. A great route to walk and a trip we would gladly do again and highly recommend.
The walking was wonderful. The scenery was quintessentially French countryside and the walking tracks and roadways were easy to navigate. Unfortunately, while some hosts were excellent and went out of their way to make us feel at home, other hosts were not so accommodating, and we felt less than welcome in their establishments. Travellers need to be aware that even if the accommodation is ready many hosts will not allow guests to access rooms until 4.00pm. Also dinner may be up to half a km away from the rooms, so if you have walked a big day, you may have a further 1km round trip for dinner.
Thanks for the opportunity to provide this review, on a positive the walk itself was fantastic, the green landscape, the water and cows everywhere it was purely beautiful. On the negative we found the accommodation challenging, not the rooms themselves but the way that they were managed. The accommodation for our first 3 nights was great the hosts were friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. Then the attitude of the hosts went downhill, firstly as recommended by the information provided we attempted to ring the hosts to identify the time they would open, they either would not answer the phone or would or could not converse in English. We also found that often we would be booked into one hotel, However, that hotel was not staffed and you had to walk 800m to another hotel to eat and to register and get your key. After walking 25 kms this was challenging. While I understand that it can be challenging for the hosts, there was absolutely no reason why this information couldn’t have been provided to us, as it has obviously been occurring for sometime. If people are interested in doing this walk I would encourage them to get this level of information from Utracks before they leave. The local support did a good job attempting to provide us with the information concerning the opening hours of each location.
As with my previous experiences with them - this trip was well organised, well supported and thoroughly enjoyable. Beautiful scenery, a good itinerary with varied accommodation and lengths of walking. Luggage transport worked very well.
Thanks for making our walk from Le Puy to Conques so fantastic. Walking this path has been a desire for decades since I first studied art history. The team were very obliging as we has all sorts of odd requests about extra days here and there and lots of questions. The route guidance was clear and easy to follow and all the accommodation and meals exceeded our expectations. I would do this route with UTracks in a flash if I had the opportunity.
