Itinerary
This 'Inca Trail to Machu Picchu' tour is fit for a king, a queen or a pampered adventurer! Join us on this 4-day guided trip and enjoy trekking through the Inca Trail, one of the most famous and incredible trekking routes in the world!
The Inca Trail is one of the most impressive examples of the approximately 40,000km of roads and trails built by the Incas some 500 years ago! These roads were built across deserts, highlands and jungles stretching from the south of Colombia throughout Peru, Bolivia, northern and central Chile and the northwestern part of Argentina!
This trail starts in the Andean region and travels through highlands, jungles and cloud forests, with tunnels and bridges in between. Undertaking this trek is an opportunity to go back in time and learn more about the history and civilization of the Incas. This trek comes to an end in Machu Picchu, the most representative and famous Inca monument. For more details, please go through the itinerary below.
day 1Cusco - Ayapata
We will pick you up from Regocijo Plaza (less than 5 minutes from Cusco's hotel district) between 4 to 4:30 in the morning (time to be confirmed after the booking is done) and travel by bus to Piskacucho, popularly known as Kilometre 82, from where the trail starts. There will be a breakfast stop in Ollantaytambo. Please note that the breakfast is optional and not included in the tour price.
Upon arrival at Kilometre 82 at around 8:30 am, we will have some time to organize ourselves (using restrooms, applying sunscreen, insect repellents and more). Show your entrance tickets, passports and, if paying a student rate, a student card at the entrance to the trail located nearby.
Next, cross the Vilcanota River and take the route to the right. The first day is relatively easy but provides great views of the ruins of an Incan fortress (Huillca Raccay), the vast, incredible Llactapata (officially called Patallacta) and the Urubamba Mountains.
Our first campsite in Ayapata is located an hour and a half up the small village of Wayllabamba (3,000m) in the temperate, green valley that goes by the same name.
