Itinerary

Trace the echoes of history on the "Cycle the Western Front" tour, an 8-day self-guided bicycle journey from Paris to Bruges. Perfect for travelers keen on culture, remembrance, and scenic cycling, this moderate-level trip meanders through the legendary battlefields of the Somme and Flanders—regions deeply etched with the stories of World War I.

Pedal along quiet roads and bike paths, stopping at poignant memorials, museums, and cemeteries dedicated to Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, and British soldiers. The ride also immerses you in the natural beauty and culinary traditions of northern France and Belgium, with evenings spent in handpicked hotels in charming towns. The tour concludes in Bruges, celebrated for its medieval ambiance and vibrant canals.

The unique selling point is the journey’s blend of historical reflection and local hospitality, making it both a moving tribute and a rewarding travel experience for those who appreciate depth and context in their trips.

The route of the trip was excellent and provided a deeper understanding of the difficulties confronting the Allies in WWI.

The Western Front trip was well put together, distances each day allowed plenty of time to visit sites and contemplate the history involved. The route was well prepared with GPS making it pretty hard to get lost or confused. Support was great with good bikes and communication. A slight issue with a bags arriving a bit later than optimal underscores their advice to carry a change of clothes with you in case you get the hotel before them. An extra day could easily be taken (offered)in Ypres as this area, which would allow time to visit the Ypres museum and visit other significant locations of interest not on the loop. A really good trip.

The trip is very interesting, the route has many sites to see and was primarily on secondary or bike only roads.

Delivery & pick up of bikes was seamless. E bikes were excellent, possibly the best we have ever used. Maps, both paper and & electronic were good. Our only issue was 2 hotel upgrades were both some distance from the town centres which was not ideal. Centrally located accommodated would always be the best option. Overall an excellent trip for those interested in military history of the Western Front.

Great trip! The B&B's were excellent with lovely hosts and breakfasts. In one of the little towns along the way I had the best ever pastry and sandwich for lunch. I may never have another pastry as good as that one. After a few months preparation in the gym, the cycling was entirely within my capacity. I will definitely do another cycling trip.
