Week-long holiday between two important Mediterranean cities
Explore the Camargue regional park and natural reserve
Cycle through the beautiful Catalan region of Emporda
Trace the Mediterranean’s vibrant cultures from France to Spain on "Cycle Marseille to Barcelona," an eight-day moderate tour linking Marseille, Figueres, and Barcelona. Cyclists will traverse the wild Camargue wetlands, medieval villages, and sun-kissed beaches of Catalonia, with interludes by train and bus to highlight the region’s best segments. Along the way, experience the contrasting Mediterranean cultures, cycle past ancient ruins, and indulge in local cuisine. Accommodation, transport, and meals are included for a seamless journey. The tour’s USP? Its cross-cultural blend of French and Catalan Mediterranean landscapes, offering a diverse European cycling adventure.
Pablo the tour leader was friendly, helpful and informative also Luis the van bacK up driver was great and gave us super picnic lunches. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip with good company.
Our leader was Pablo Garcia. He was very knowledgeable, skilled and had lots of patience, excellent and timely information and always made sure our needs were met. Some of the accommodation was basic, but that was okay. Breakfasts were very varied and tasty with plenty of choices. We had a great group of cyclists and Pablo kept the team spirit going. The recommendations for meals were great and we had a lot of local food/ specialty options, which was great. The itinerary was good, riding through beautiful and vast landscapes with wild life such as flamingos and white horses, small medieval villages and beautiful canals, we would have expected and liked some more roads along the beautiful coast. There was a lot of riding through flat landscape with orchards and agriculture. The equipment was good, but some of the bikes had some gear and shifting issues. The support van driver Louis, made awesome picnic lunches with fresh local foods. All in all a great trip!
The cycle route was fabulous. Well led. Lunch stops ( pay for picnic) was good. Some of the accommodation was extremely poor- dirty and dangerous light fittings, some plain and simple ( hostel like) and a couple were good. I wouldn’t recommend because there is no guarantee that the accommodation will be acceptable. It’s not a cheap holiday by the time you add in flights but the company choose to contract low cost poor quality accommodation. Shame!
I was okay. The best parts were the other people on the tour and the last few days where the countryside and accommodations improved. Aside from the first part of the route being a boring I would say the following could be improved: The eBikes had no water bottle holder. We pooled 50 Euros each and our van driver provided a picnic buffet for all but one day - that was okay. However, he never chose a lunch stop location that had restrooms or chairs/tables at which to eat. Also, picking a spot with cover from rain would be good. Furthermore, providing hand sanitizer would be a good thing. Speaking of restrooms, everyone had to use the great outdoors from time to time on the trip. The bikes were never cleaned nightly and they accumulated sand, mud, in the gears. The last stop on the last day was at a gas station with a pressure washer where we all cleaned out bikes. I would be selective about who I recommended this tour to and made sure they had a full understanding of the program.
I recommend this trip. The itinerary was well thought out and planned and included a number of places I wanted to visit. Weronica our guide was excellent, very supportive and knowledgeable. The hotels were also of a very high standard and the picnics, provided by Lluis, our support driver, were amazing!
I thoroughly enjoyed travelling with Explore. Tge group leader and driver made all tge difference. It was a well planned trip with lots of fabulous scenery and a variety for riding. The bikes were in excellent condition too.
A great trip with an excellent tour guide, Weronika who is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Our man in the van, Lluis, also enhanced the experience with a series of picnics through the week. The tour struck a good balance between cycling and sight seeing. The accommodation was good quality and the travel logistics worked well.
Weronica was great. Very informative, full of positive energy, and kept us from getting lost. Lluis was an amazing support person. His picnics were fabulous, and he was a great cheerleader for each of us.
We had not been to Marseille or Barcelona before so this was a perfect trip to link the two cities and our love of cycling holidays; mid October the weather was just right and we managed to dodge any rain! Our guide Weronika and driver Lluis were an absolute star team, nothing was too much trouble and their enthusiasm and energy never wavered. Weronika guided us safely each day and was very knowledgeable about the places we visited so we learned a lot about the history of the region; Weronika’s spirit and humour was also infectious! We were told Lluis was famous for his picnics and he certainly lived up to this, the food he produced on the road was superb. We had a great time, cycled along some beautiful coastlines and also up and over the Col de Banyuls with fantastic views. Thank you to Weronika, Lluis and all the group for helping to make it a fun trip. Catherine and Harry
Lovely cycling across from Marseille to Barcelona. Lunches prepared by LLuis were great and Peter was an excellent leader
