Love the country hotels, the beautiful landscape and seeing how Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar and oils are created. Highly recommend.
Great tour, guide and driver, will recommend to friends
Enjoyed staying two nights in each location. Great itinerary with lots of fun and interesting places to see.
It takes you to different places.
Amalfi coast towns stays too short to absorb the liveliness and enjoyment of the lifestyle All other places involved lot of walking on rough streets and was very hard on the tourists. An alternative within towns such as mini buses or taxis would help.
The tour itinerary was excellent. For a first time visit to Italy, I felt very satisfied that I covered so many, many interesting sights that Italy is so famous for. The tour director was very knowledgeable on the history of the country and was able to update our tour group on many aspects of life back then and life today. He went far and beyond to give us the benefit of his years of experience encapsulated in a nutshell. I particularly enjoyed Tuscany and Umbria…such a beautiful part of the world, it took my breath away. The driver of the coach was such a kind and responsible person. We were extremely fortunate to have the perfect combination of tour director and coach driver. The drives were comfortable and we were well looked after. The medieval towns of Todi, Perugia, Florence, Sienna, San Giminiano, Cinque de Terre, etc were particularly fascinating to us…it was as if time stood still. The choice of hotels were excellent and very comfortable. A few suggestions..please include Sistine Chapel in Rome and the museum where the statue of David is displayed. If it’s possible to include some of the optional tours as part of the standard tour, it would be more cost effective.
This took us to places off the beaten track. Was able to explore and experience different things in the different places that I visited on this tour. The options were great as well and I enjoyed them. The tour director was very knowledgeable and accommodating to the group. *personal info removed by Feefo* was great the whole time, was able to joke with the group. Our coach driver *personal info removed by Feefo* was great he looked after us with his safe driving skills and his smile.
Loved staying in the out of the way off the highway villages
This was my first trip to Europe, I didn’t know what to expect, I was also by myself. Made lots of friends on the Country Roads of Italy Tour, had a fantastic time, would love to do again as it was a great experience. I would recommend this tour because it is different to most tours offered and takes you to places you would not normally see. Tour started on the 25th July 2025 and ended on the 9th August. Regards John
My director *personal info removed by Feefo* was amazing; so knowledgeable about Italy. It is a very fast paced tour, but you learn so much history with each city. Hotels were very nice, food excellent and coach was very comfortable with a very qualified driver. Safety was never a concern. Loved it!
The itinerary combines a visit to iconic sites and places with less traveled county spots such as Todi, Parma, Perugia and others. The pace is active yet travel was comfortable as we traveled in the luxury of a Mercedes Benz coach. Our tour Director was sensational. He had a wonderful warm, kind, engaging personality while still at the “head of the class” with respect to his knowledge and overall professionalism. The local guides were finely curated. Interesting and enjoyable while the optional excursions were well worth the added expense. I highly recommend Insight to folks who are looking to experience a travel adventure that will never be forgotten. I’m already planning my 2026 vacation. Many thanks, Kathleen Quinn Skoog
An excellent tour to see places and experience the Italian lifestyle off the typical tourist trail, as well as the larger cities like Rome, Florence and Venice. The hotels and restaurants were high quality and distinctive and there was a good mix of sightseeing and optional activities. The tour pace allowed free time to explore on our own. I recommend booking additional nights at either end of the tour (Rome and Venice) if you haven't visited these cities as there's so much to see!
Perfect
The Insight Vacations tour guide was excellent in all aspects: friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and had many recommendations as to food, products to buy, where to eat, where to meet, etc. The itinerary to see locations was well done and included spots that I had not thought of.
Wouldn’t stay in Parma. On the outskirts of town hotel was nice but it didn’t have a comfortable feel about it when looking for somewhere to dine at night
A key feature is the smaller towns and their charm. It was good to have some hotels that had lots of character. A couple of days were quite busy but otherwise it was well paced with adequate free time in most places. As not all lunch and dinners were provided, it was an opportunity to visit local restaurants and cafes.
The walking involved BEFORE registration and paying for the tour.
Too many optional tours. Four star hotels? Hotel's quality were poor.
I like the scope of the tour but I think we could skip some of the smaller towns & give more time to Florence & Rome. Too many optional tours, some of which are not worth the time & money (eg hidden delights of Venice). Was unhappy with the hotel in Rome; got an attic room with no window. Food on the “free” dinners were disappointing, particularly given my previous experiences with Insight. Restos not as upscale as those experienced in previous Insight tours. Francis, the tour director, is the best. He was knowledgeable, informative, entertaining, helpful, solicitous, etc.
Great itinerary; loved all the small towns and excursions. A few rides between locations were a little long but the comfort of the coach made up for it. Some people struggled with the amount of walking and the steepness of the hills. Would suggest you add a note about this so people are more aware of what they're signing up for. Our travel director and driver were excellent and the use of What's App to keep everyone informed was a very helpful tool.
was such a great Travel Director, very informative, helpful and knowledgable. Would love to do another trip with her as Travel Director. our driver was such a great driver. He was very friendly and courteous. The tour covered a great deal of experiences and meals. This was our third Insight tour and look forward to doing some more
Left to own devices in some locations for too long. Be aware that some lodgings are out of town - no alternative eateries nearby
Worth doing! Very pretty countryside and interesting places mostly unknown as. not big cities! Just a great experience with a good tour guide and getting to know other coach travellers.
A comprehensive and effective tour of Italy, highlighting its various geographical and historical regions. An extensive experience of sights, sounds and tastes of a beautiful and complex country.
Beautiful scenery of the Italy and tour is well organized.
This was our first bus tour and we can’t wait to take our next. We had an amazing tour guide and coach driver. We never had to worry about anything, They were always making sure we had what we needed. The Towns we visited I would have never seen on our own , so I am thankful we took the trip. I am attaching a few photos but I could never send enough to do it justice. Thanks
Although the itin was ambitious it was fantastic! Loved every minute of it. Truly got a sense of Italy, the culture, food and sense of community.
We had a very knowledgeable guide who made visits to various historical places memorable. Local guides did a great job. Places visited and the pace worked very well for us. Being vegetarians, we found that additional meals did not provide value for the amount that we paid , approximate Euros 75-80 per person. My suggestion would be to include driver and tour guide gratuities as well as excursions in the price rather than add-ons.
Very good itinerary but could be better having more free time, especially since it's a 16 day tour, and if you take all the Optional Experiences there's very little free time. Activities with local experts were great! I felt obligated to buy the goods we were shown as a group, for example the "Make Travel Matter" glass blowing demonstration with a store of their products. Glass blowing is done all over the world, incl. In Canada. I didn't much like the balsamic vinegar visit in Modena. The olive demonstration was disappointing because we just watched a short film and the presenter did not speak English which was tiresome to hear it being translated throughout the presentation. If you aren't interested in buying their products, there isn't anywhere to go except outside the building (ie you're stuck doing nothing until people are finished buying). Also the loom-weaving demonstration in Perugia was interesting to see, but I felt obligated to buy a tapestry. No place to go if you don't buy anything. Besides the above presentations, the itinerary was very good!
A lot of walking but in the end it was all worth it. Tour guide was terrific, Sarah. Did a great job of explaining always what was happening and where we were going. Very well informed. Would definitely do it again
Very fast moving but beautiful places… the only thing negative is the hotel accommodations. For that reason we won’t travel with Insight Vacations again
The itinerary was great, well organised and timed. Circumstances caused changes, (Pope's funeral). These changes were also well thought out and in the end did not adversely affect the tenor of the trip.
This itinerary covered all our must see sights in Italy. Travelling the country roads meant we were able to see some smaller villages and stay in some quaint motels. We travelled in a modern, comfortable coach, with plenty of spare seats as there was only 25 in our group. Jackie was an excellent tour director. She gave extensive knowledge of each area prior to arrival, and even showed a few movies on the bus about the history of some sites. It was a faster paced itinerary than I expected, especially as we chose to do most of the optional extra trips. There was also a lot of walking up and down hills and stairs on some days, which needs to be considered if you have mobility restrictions. A thoroughly enjoyable trip. Highly recommended!
This 16 day trip around Italy was fantastic!! We saw some of our favorites plus a lot of new places we didn't see before. A lot of great experiences!
Country Roads was very much about seeing parts of Italy that are off the beaten path. The local expert guides were quite interesting. The itinerary had some surprise (to the tour guests) changes like two nights on Capri instead of at Sorrento, only about five hours in Florence instead of two nights and completely missing Siena due to a long planned bike race.
It covers a lot of ground and is fun and exciting, but tiring.
