The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is widely regarded as one of the best hikes in the world. It is also one of the most approachable, as no special skills are required to complete it – although good health and fitness will certainly help you make the journey from the trailhead to Machu Picchu.
Compared to other famous treks, this trail is relatively short, making it perfect for those with limited time. Despite its length, the route is incredibly diverse and captivating: along the way you will encounter fascinating ruins, snow-capped peaks, beautiful waterfalls, and lush jungle. At the end of the trail, you will pass through the Sun Gate for your first glimpse of Machu Picchu – an unforgettable view of the ruins from above at their most breathtaking.
The government has preserved a portion of the thousands of miles of original Inca trails for this classic hike. This popular route covers 26 miles and takes four days to complete. Travel and book with confidence through the #1 local Inca Trail tour operator in Cusco.

I can't recommend this tour enough. Well organized, amazing experience. Hiking was beautiful and the porters and staff were so hard working, they carried everything, set-up camp for us every day/night and allowed guests to immerse in the magic of the Incan culture and natural beauty unencumbered. Also - the food, which was cooked fresh every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious, healthy and made with care.
The hiking was awesome, lots of beautiful and different landscapes along the way. On a clear sky at night one can see the Milky Way, it’s incredible. The special views from Macchu Pichu that only can be seen by hikers made everything perfect.
Was very impressed with this tour company. My group did our trek November 11-14, 2023. As a first time traveler to Peru and the Andes mountains, I could not think of a better introduction to see the Incan Trail and Machu Picchu. Our trek of 3 nights of the classic Incan Trail in my opinion was flawless experience all things considered. I want to give a big shoutout to our chef Simon and all the porters! The meals were delicious. Simon and his assistants did a great job! Our guides Javi and Valentin went above and beyond for everyone in our group. Great guys! They made it a lot of fun and shared with us stories and history of the region. It is definitely a challenging hike to do the classic Incan trail especially at this altitude. I definitely recommend the basics of preparing physically and eating extra healthy to be doing this trek. It is very doable for the majority of people in half way decent shape. Good hydration is something to take seriously. You will not appreciate the experience in the same way without the physical challenge of being out in the nature for 3 days trekking. Really awesome to see the variety of microclimates throughout the trail. The operator is a great business and they hire really awesome people! I have all positive things to say. In conversation with people about visiting Machu Picchu I will always remember this tour company.
I highly recommend this tour operator for the Inca trail! Our guides, Fletcher and Wilber, were amazing! Their personality and knowledge of the Inca trail and history made for a memorable experience. The food was amazing. They provided a sample of Peruvian culture through their food and stories, all cooked by our own personal chef! The Inca trail was beautiful and the porters worked so hard to make the experience feel even more memorable and comfortable. I can’t say enough about this company and experience. Don’t hesitate and book with them.
In our group we had 3 vegans, 2 gluten free, 1 dairy free, 1 fish free which is a lot!!! Every meal was beyond delicious and our chef Jose really worked hard to help us enjoy every meal and be well fueled for the long, strenuous daily hikes. Our guides Miguel and Romario made us all feel safe right away, educated us at every occasion and created an incredible respectful environment while hiking this amazingly difficult trail. The group really had a great vibe with each other so many fun times were had! Our porters worked harder than anyone I’ve ever seen work and had our tents, pads and duffels waiting for us at the end of each days hike. I highly recommend this tour!
Did a 4D/3N Inca trail hike to Machu Picchu, had an experience of a lifetime!! The tour guide leader Elisban and his partner Henry were both amazing. Very knowledgeable and helpful/kind people. The chefs also cooked terrific food! Every meal was a surprise as each one was almost better than the last. The porters who carry your luggage are hard workers who make sure your sleeping and dining tents are set up on time for when you arrive to camp. All these people work hard for you to have the best time. It’s glamping for sure. If I decide to go on another trek in Cusco I’m going with them. Thanks again to Elisban and Henry, along with their team of porters and chef for making my trip an amazing, life memorable experience!!! Couldn’t have done a better job.
Incredible experience. It was extremely difficult, but also very rewarding. Our guides Susy and Saul were absolutely fantastic about looking out for our health as well as being very informative. Their timing was also pretty much perfect! If they said something took 2 hours, it was almost 2 hours to the minute. Our chef Cecelio absolutely blew us away each night with different meals and drinks to make sure we were fed and ready for the next day. Just an all around incredible crew lead by Angel the head porter as well. They were kind, patient, and probably the hardest workers I have ever seen in my entire life. LOVED this experience. I would recommend this tour operator to anyone. They will take care of you.
"Really amazing experience with some really great people! This is an awesome way to explore Machu Picchu, learning the history along the way and seeing some amazing sights! The chefs made the best food on the mountain - every lunch, breakfast and dinner was different with an abundance of food and GREAT variety! The porters worked very hard carrying our bags, being friendly and always giving the best service - it is notable that the tour company provides them with good kit, equipment and food. Finally, the guides were both great fun and always tried to ensure we had the best experience. Henry (the younger guide) had a great sense of humour, telling good stories but also helped slower members of the group at the back which enabled the faster ones to go ahead at their pace. Rosel (the head guide) was also very friendly, has an awesome laugh and was very good at organising our time to arrive on time at every point and ensure everyone had the correct kit and equipment, he was also very informative about the history of the Inca Trail. Would definitely recommend and would definitely do it again! One word of warning - naturally you are wild camping so the toilet facilities are not amazing, but it is a small sacrifice for the BEST experience!"
"I did the 4 Days / 3 Nights Inca Trail with José as our main guide and Carlos as his sidekick. José gave great explanations and history lessons about Inca culture and the ruins. He knew all the spots (for pictures, breaks) and provided the best itinerary to make this a memorable experience (sunrise at Machu Picchu). Big love to all the porters, because without them this trek would not be possible in this way. The food was really good and plenty to feed all the hungry hikers. I would recommend going with this tour operator to hike this trail. However one thing I would like to note is that fair compensation to everybody involved (porters!!!, chef, guides) should be improved to reduce the additional tipping culture. Of course all tips are always voluntary, but if there is specific guidelines with recommended amounts from the company how much to tip you know the baseline salary is probably not enough and it feels very forced upon the tourists to be the bad/good guy. I also felt the suggested amounts were quite high for an already quite expensive tour. Go Super Hikers and Green Machine -!"
"This was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. Our guide, Raul, was so full of knowledge and so friendly, he made the trip extra special. The views were incredible and breathtaking. Our chef was so talented, he made us some of the best food I’ve had. Our guide organized a special surprise for our anniversary and the chef made us a delicious, beautiful cake. The porters were so friendly and encouraging, I am so amazed at their ability to walk so far with the things they carry for us. I do recommend this trip but with caution because it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I didn’t know how difficult and draining it was going to be. However, our guide, porters, group, and the experience made all the sore muscles completely worthwhile. I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything like this anywhere else in the world!"
I cannot begin to express how incredible this trip to Machu Picchu was. We booked this trip as part of our honeymoon and it was beyond worth it! From our tour guides Saul and Humberto to the head porter Cornelio and his team and head chef Sebastian and his team, every aspect of this trek was taken care of and we had no issues! The hiking, history and food was incredible. I would highly recommend using them if you plan to visit Peru. It was an experience I will never forget thanks to the amazing team at this company! Thank you for everything!
My experience with this tour was incredible. Everything was so well organized and efficient. Raul was our tour guide and he was absolutely incredible and did an outstanding job. It was a once in a lifetime experience all thanks to his positivity, informative guiding and great leadership. Pedro, our chef, made the most incredible gourmet meals that were so delicious and the porters were so kind and worked so quickly.
This company was simply awesome. Five stars foods from the chef everyday. Albel main our tour guide is very knowledgeable of the region and history. He is like our father figure during the 5 days / 4 nights expedition of the Inca trails. He took great care of us and addressed all our needs. Marcella our leave no man behind trail guide was awesome. She took care of all the slower hikers and even carry all their backpacks, even hold hands during stepper stairs. Porters worked very hard carrying all our bags, tent, toilet, etc. 5 stars crew. I highly recommend.
This was the most AMAZING experience I have ever had. Saul G. and Fernando were the most incredible, engaging, fun, hilarious, guides and friends we could ever ask for. I ate better on the 4 day 3 night Inca trail hike than I do in my regular life. Chef Julián is a genius, beautiful food and it tastes even better! On the last night they even made us a cake at camp! I can’t speak highly enough of it. Also, the porters were immaculate! Mateo led the team and every time we made it to camp our tents were set up and everything was perfect. This was genuinely the best experience of my life. They made us feel safe and challenged and accomplished. I could not recommend this experience enough and it would not have been possible without the leadership of Saul and Fernando. Sul pike (muchas gracias)!!
Words and photos will never be able to describe the phenomenal experience I had on the Classic Inca trail to Machu Picchu with this agency. You must request Teddy and Gregory as your guides along with Chef Cecilio and Head Porter Eugenio. This crew was outstanding and made my trip. Teddy and Gregory are the most amazing humans! They have so much sincerity to ensure you not only have a safe hike, but a fun journey. They are knowledgeable and have great historical facts and stories along the trail, they always have a positive attitude, and their encouragement to keep pushing gives you faith that you can make it - these two made you look forward to what was ahead (and let me tell you, it was challenging!) Chef Cecilio prepared outstanding meals morning, noon and night. You were never hungry and the variety was mind blowing considering we were in the middle of the mountains! Eugenio and his crew of porters - WOW! These porters are in charge of setup, teardown, and carrying everything (tents, your pack, food, toilet, etc,) from base to base. They are swift - waking up before us and going to sleep after us, the kindest, and work so incredibly hard to ensure you have everything you could need and more. I was blessed to be paired with 13 incredible humans from around the world. We all bonded so well and rallied each other when we saw the trail trying to defeat us. I know lifelong friends were made on this trip. Our weather could not have been more spectacular with the exception of a few hours on the final day, where is rained all the way to Machu Picchu before the sun shined over the ruins! I'm not an experienced hiker at all. This was my first hike ever. I didn't train, I booked 10 days before the hike, and truthfully, if it wasn't for everyone mentioned above, I would have never competed the hike. It was that mentally and physically challenging for me. Surrounded by the right people you can do anything!! Now, book your classic Inca trail hike with this travel specialist, I guarantee you won't regret it
"Lizandro and Valentine were our guides for the tour and they were the best. Walter was our head chef. All the positives of the trip on why this is a 5 star review * lizandro and valentine always told us exactly what to expect the day before. A 45 min hike is a 45 min hike. * they told us how to be first to get into machu picchu and we were the first ones. We got great photos while everyone else had to wait in line at the sun gate. * when we were missing an air matress to needed more toilet paper (absolute necessity) they hooked it up. Problem solved. * I never liked history, but they kept the infosessions interesting. Learning about all the Inca ruins. If I saw them myself, it would've just been a cool structure. But they educate you on the purpose, timelines, etc. * they were willing to listen to extra requests from the group and accommodate them, which I think is absolutely extraordinary. One of the members from our group wanted to stray from the itinerary and they accommodated her for it. * the camping experience was made easy. Porters carried duffle bags for you which allowed you to pack light on the hike. They also set up the tents and took it down so it's minimal touch. * the food that was cooked which was breakfast lunch and dinner was gourmet. We had 4-5 dishes of different foods for each meal. Enough to keep everyone full, and the food tasted phenomenal * hikes were rough, but the guides knew exactly when to take stops to let everyone take a breath. When times were tough a break was taken to drink water and remove a layer of clothing * the recommendations for layers were spot on. If they say to wear a jacket and hat it means so. They knrw when the sun was coming up so they also knew when to keep your clothes on or take it off. * they were amazing photographers where they knew all the spots to take a photo. Cons * camp bathrooms were always dirty (but our guides made sure we made it to camp first and that's when bathrooms were cleanest)"
"I want to sincerely express my greatest gratitude to this tour company for the wonderful trip we experienced (Classic Inca Trail 4D/3N). If the weather conditions cannot be planned, be sure that all the rest is carefully anticipated by ""The Green Machine"". I did many hikes, I never experienced such level of professionalism, led by our main guide José and head chef Sergio, who I both specially want to thank, and all our porters that made an incredible job to create all the perfect conditions you would never believe. All you have to do is to follow this wonderful journey, listen and learn about this wonderful culture and nature. These people are passionate about what they do, and you can feel it."
After dreaming about this trip for 2 years (our trip planned for 202 got postponed because of the pandemic) the CLASSIC INCA TRAIL 4 DAYS TO MACHU PICCHU was a real dream come true.
The briefing was very informative and they went out of their way to pick me up from my accommodation. The food on the trek was mind blowing. The chef, Sebastian, made sure we all had a culinary experience, incorporating a wide range of Peruvian cuisine. I ate better on my trek than my entire time in Cusco. This experience definitely wouldn’t have been possible without our porters. Caramelo was our head porter and made sure everything ran efficiently. They did much more than carry our bags, supplying us with whatever needed and cheering us on every time we left camp. They provided an energy and spirit on the trek that made us all feel like family. Most of all, the person that made this experience the most memorable was our guide, Lizandro. From the very beginning he was very personable and extremely knowledgeable. He left us feeling like what we participated in was much more than a trek but also partaking and walking in the footsteps of history. He provided much insight not only into Incan history but also it’s ties into modern day Peruvian life. His enthusiasm and sense of humor made him a joy to be around and I will miss him being a part of my day. I will definitely be booking more treks with him in the future! Everyone on his team made us feel very appreciated and explained how impactful and supportive our tourism was to them. When you book a tour with them you are doing much more than an expedition. You are supporting local livelihoods and gaining a family. They truly cultivated an experience that I will never forget.
I had a really great time trekking up the Inca Trail over 4 days and 3 nights starting Dec 29,2021 and summiting on Jan 1,2022. I am so glad I had decided to go with this tour company. They had everything organized to a T!! The food was great at each campsite and they even took care of my diabetic needs on the mountain!! To top it off, the chef even baked a cake for our group for New Year's eve!! The guides, Jaime and Adolfo were not only very pleasant to deal with but also very knowledgeable about the Trail and the related Inca history. Jaime was always pointing out to historical facts, trivia and several species of orchids and that made the arduous climb seem like a walk in the park. Adolfo was always around to help and demonstrated skillfully how the ancient Incas made sturdy ropes out of simple mountain grass! Overall, a fabulous experience with Jaime (pronounced "haimeh"), Adolfo and their team to anyone that wants to do the Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu!
The 4-day 3-night trek was amazing. Completely exceeded my expectations. Pretty sure the chef Walter is a magician, the way he was able to cook full meals (appetizers, main course, sides, all delicious) out of a tent. The porters took care of all of the work involved in camping, it was relaxing. Lucio our guide was intensely knowledgeable, patient, and kind. The trail itself was a lot of fun to hike and see all the sights along the way. I recommend a baseline physical ability, but any active person should have no problem and be able to enjoy the views and experience.
Firstly, I rarely take the time to write reviews. I was extremely impressed by every aspect of my trek with this tour company, from pre-hike information and briefings to every aspect of the 4day 3night Inca Trail hike. The guide, Rolando, was incredibly knowledgable, flexible, patient, kind, and encouraging. He allowed hikers to go at their own pace, making sure porters were there to keep an eye on those who weren't directly in his site. The meals were enormous and delicious! I'd never done a multi-day trek before and this company definitely spoiled us...waking us up with coca tea, providing us with warm water to wash up, and a tent set up with a table and chairs for meals. The entire staff was excellent. I should note two situations that arose that they managed perfectly. The first is that I sprained my ankle just 2 weeks before the hike. The staff was quick with their communication and creative with providing alternative experiences to still be able to see Machu Picchu. Luckily, in the end I was still able to do the hike. When the hike was over, we sat down for lunch and were notified that the train personnel was striking so we'd either have to wait until tomorrow to hopefully catch a train then or hike another 2 hours to another town where the tour company's minivan would have access to pick us up. We were very thankful that we were with such a great reputable company because they provided us with a solution to get back the same day, which other hikers did not have. All in all, I can't say enough positive things about this company. They are really top notch.
I highly recommend this trip to anyone who is looking to learn more about Inca history while hiking to Machu Picchu! The whole experience is planned so well by the tour company team- from the pickup at your hotel on the first morning, to the delicious meals (my chef, Walter, was amazing and the food was better than what I typically eat on a day to day basis). On top of that, our tour guide Lucio was so knowledgable and patient with our group. The porters carried all of our belongings from site to site, and camp was always set up for us when we arrived for our hike. An experience you wont forget. Worth every penny :)
