Itinerary

Seek a trekking adventure beyond the ordinary? The "Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu" offers hikers a carefully curated route to Peru’s legendary citadel, perfect for those who want an alternative to the classic Inca Trail. Set out through the Sacred Valley, rest in unique accommodations—like glass cabañas overlooking Humantay Glacier and whimsical Hobbit Houses with jacuzzis—and spend a night at Llactapata campsite for a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu itself.

This trip includes experienced guides, professional chefs, friendly porters, and top-notch equipment, ensuring comfort and quality throughout your journey. The trek culminates with an early visit to Machu Picchu, allowing plenty of time to soak in the magic of this world wonder.

The real highlight? A thoughtfully designed itinerary with exclusive stays and a focus on traveler comfort, making your Salkantay trekking experience truly unforgettable.

day 1Arrive in Cusco (3399m)

You will be welcomed at the Cusco airport by our friendly representative and transferred to the hotel. Remember, landing at 3,300 meters can be hard on the body. Do not feel concerned if you have shortness of breath or a small headache. This is common and should go away quickly. You can reduce the symptoms by staying hydrated with water and tea. You will have a free day to acclimatize and visit the impressive main square of Cusco.
You will have a briefing at the team office at 6:30 pm where the tour guide will overview the tour and give you the duffle bags.

Excellent Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Expedition

One of the most unforgettable trips of my life. The Salkantay trek was breathtaking — snow-capped peaks, changing landscapes, and finally arriving at Machu Picchu made every step worth it. Alpaca Expedition handled every detail, from camping to meals, so we could just enjoy the journey.

The BEST way to see Machu Picchu!

I can’t imagine doing this trip without this company and especially our guide team. They went BEYOND above and beyond. When booking I highly recommend requesting Fernando as your tour guide, Teofilo as your chef, Vicente as your porter, and Yuri as your horseman. No

Amazing trip!!!

This trip was a memorable one. I won't forget this one. From the amazing food from Teofilo or Vicente the porter that carried the extra weight when we went over the weight limit.

Guillia put a great self-drive tour together for us and Susana looked after us as we travelled. (Even when we got lost) The car and accommodation was good and the guides patient and informative. Only issue we had was parking in small villages, garages, and cities. Apart from the parking we had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, thank you.
