Excellent

We had the privilege of having Cole Reizenburg as our tour guide in the South African tour. Cole was so informative and knew everything about South African history. Because of him I’ve gained so much knowledge and understanding about Apartheid and Nelson Mandela. He recommended great books I’m now obsessed with reading. He is only 26 but he is extremely mature and has so much knowledge and experience and guided the tour so well. I can’t imagine the pressure of taking care of 13 of us on the tour and organizing everything but he was calm, respectful, patient and welcoming even with difficult people. A few people, who were a lot older than him on the group were quite rude but Cole stayed calm and continued to treat everyone with respect and kindness. I don’t know how he does it! Cole was helpful to book our extra activities after the trip like paragliding. As a local he was able to give us his own experience of South Africa and recommended amazing food! I’ve been on the Mexico tour and previous tours with other companies but Cole is by far the best tour guide I’ve had. He made the trip incredible!

Windy but wonderful

Amazing scenery, good food and wine (at very reasonable prices) and I laughed every day. The group was the usual Exodus mix of interesting, well-travelled people who love cycling. The long straight roads in strong winds were a challenge - even on e-bikes, but I thoroughly enjoyed the climbs (apart from one on what I think was the hottest day and trying to conserve my battery) and the downhills were very enjoyable, especially down to Barrydale with dramatic storm clouds on the horizon. Passing an ostrich was also a highlight for me. We didn't race - it was static in a field.

Challenging yet rewarding cycling with stunning views, wine and food!

If you are after a trip that is more than just cycling, this is for you! The first 3 days are tough, but you get challenging mountain pass's followed by exhilarating downhills. You cycling through a variety of landscapes, from coastal roads and paths, to the arid desert of the little Karoo, vast countryside and plush mountainous roads. No day is the same which is nice! The food and wine is also a big bonus.

Great Trip, Great Group

An excellent trip with a great group and group leader. The itinerary enabled a real mix of cycling in the countryside and by the sea. It was a bit windy for a couple of days and there were a couple of testing climbs but it was all very manageable.

Wonderful backdrops and really fun descents!

I had such an amazing time in Morocco. Despite taking ill, as I must have eaten something funny on the first day, I managed to power through thanks to the support and guidance from the leaders and fellow group members. The views of the desert in front of you with the Atlas mountains covered in snow in the background is amazing!

Amazing way to experience Namibia by bike!

This is the best way to travel round Namibia, you see such diverse landscapes and a variety of wildlife too! Travelling by bike means you get to see it in a different way, even though you have some very early starts it means you have the roads to yourself and the animals are out there waiting for you!

Tips for Africa Cycling Tours

  • The ideal time for an Africa bicycle tour varies depending on the region or country you intend to visit. The dry season is preferable for cycling to avoid muddy or flooded roads — so make sure you check when that occurs in the country you want to explore.
  • If you’re on your first Africa cycling tour, Rwanda is a good place to start. Known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” Rwanda offers a mix of moderate terrain, making it suitable for beginners.
  • Biking in Africa's often hot and arid conditions can be physically demanding. Make sure to pack an ample supply of water and energy snacks to keep yourself well-hydrated and energized throughout your rides. Also, familiarize yourself with local sources of clean drinking water and resupply points, or carry water-purification tablets.
  • If your cycling route includes national parks or protected areas, you may need to obtain permits to access and cycle within these areas. These permits often include park entry fees and conservation fees.
  • Certain regions in Africa, such as Cape Town, and the coastal countries in East Africa, like Kenya and Tanzania, offer favorable climates for year-round cycling.
  • Be cautious of heavy traffic and aggressive driving, especially in major cities like Marrakech and Casablanca. Stick to designated cycling lanes or quieter back roads whenever possible.
