Stage 7 of the Via Francigena in Italy
Following in the footsteps of pilgrims from centuries ago
Absorbing the classic Tuscan countryside
Visiting quintessential Italian towns and cities such as Radicofani, Montalcino and Siena
Staying in comfortable and welcoming hotels and charming B&Bs
The trip was great. The map that you tracks provided was for the most part helpful. I found the signs along the road to be a bit more helpful. At one point the map took our pilgrimage on about a 2 1/2 mile stretch of highway where cars were Coming at us and we had no real shoulder to walk on.
Overall we loved the trip and the accommodations. On the downside, we had some problems following the map route notes and the digital maps as they didn't always conform so we had to make the decision to follow one or the other.
These trips never disappoint and this was no exception. Walking through the beautiful Tuscany countryside and staying in amazing hotels in hill top towns this was definitely a trip to remember.
An amazing walk through the Tuscan countryside. Exceptional organisation and attention to detail meant we could concentrate on having a great time and not have to worry about accommodation, meals and transfers. Thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day walk along the Via Francigena amongst Tuscany's spectacular scenery. The clear route notes with the back up app were excellent in their detail and saved us the stress of finding our way. We were lucky too with non-stop sunny weather and no rain. The hotels and B and B's were welcoming and provided excellent accommodation. Hotel breakfasts included a variety of hot and cold food - certainly far more then the expected continental breakfast of a croissant and a cup of coffee! So we would certainly recommend them to organise walking holidays. And many thanks for a wonderful holiday!
Overall the walk completed through Tuscany was amazing. The countryside and the villages were an absolute delight to experience on foot. In terms of accommodation, all locations provided a comfortable and clean room for us to relax in after a day of hiking. The B&B Il Canto del Sole and Agriturismo La Selvella were both outstanding. The only negative would have been the B&B Locanda del Sorriso. While the accommodation was nice, it isn’t a B&B. A voucher for a coffee and pastry for breakfast at a local restaurant was far below the breakfast offerings provided at all other locations. As previously discussed, the issue surrounding the bag weights did dampen our view of the trip. I have no doubt that one of the bags may have been overweight at one point, but this was addressed immediately by our group. We checked weights to ensure the bags complied and thought the issue had been resolved.
Excellent trip. Accomodation was unique and located in some wonderful places we would not have thought of reserving. Walks very well signposted and information provided was comprehensive
This is an excellent trip through beautiful landscapes and mostly special accommodation. Its important to pay attention to the walking notes as they are not individually tailored to each trip, and to review the accommodation before leaving home.
As usual efficient and does what it says 'on the tin'!
Our hotels and bags were always waiting for us at the end of a long walking day, and we stayed in a wide variety of places. There weren’t that many others walkers, which is what I prefer, rather than a crowded trail. The landscape and food was incomparable!
