Follow in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims on the "Via Francigena: Lucca to Siena" tour, an 8-day self-guided hiking trip through Northern Tuscany’s enchanting landscapes. Ideal for experienced travelers and seniors with a moderate sense of adventure, this private tour lets you traverse the flat plains of Val d’Elsa, ascend into the Tuscan hills, and explore UNESCO-listed towns such as San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. Comfortable, family-run accommodations and delicious local cuisine enhance each day’s journey. The unique selling point of this tour package is the freedom to experience Italy’s iconic countryside and historic villages at your own pace, steeped in tradition and beauty.
We walked the Via Francigena in early June. The countryside was beautiful and the walk mainly off road. It was hot reaching 31c which was challenging. A quiet walk and less touristy in the towns and villages especially in the afternoon and evenings. Some hotels had swimming pools which was a real bonus. Even worth requesting when you book. A real mix of countryside, history and excellent food.
We have loved the trip and most of the accommodation but one point is important. Walkers need to be advised that there is minimal shade on the trip. We have been fortunate to have beautiful sunny days but with that unrelenting heat. Also it would be good to know where the water fountains are so you can plan your water intake.
Varied hotels en route, all good standard. Smooth delivery of luggage daily. Helpful app.
We were a group of 14 ladies between the ages of 35 and 60 and we absolutely loved our walk and stay in the different authentic and historic villages. The information provided was excellent and the accommodation well organized, comfortable and mostly charming. A fantastic way to visit this beautiful part of the world. One downside which they need to address: the lack of transparency on the part of the luggage carriers in Italy. Other than that little warming to fellow walkers, I cannot recommend this trip enough.
They were excellent in helping me to tailor a walking trip on the Via Francigena for me and 12 friends. It was a trip of a lifetime that was excellently documented with excellent accommodation choices and supported throughout.
The customer care is awesome although the trip information comes in dribs and drabs.
Well organized and good value for money.
On the whole a great choice of Hotels along the way.
We had a fantastic time on the Via Francigena! The accommodations for the most part were great, and the luggage portaging was completely seamless. The maps were good although the route is quite well marked.
Enjoyable hiking through stunning scenery, staying in comfortable family-run hotels in beautiful towns and villages.
Absolutely loved every moment!
We have had much better walks in the Pyrenees. Supposedly an 8 day trip but only 5 days of walking. Some days on roads for quite a long time. Typical Tuscan countryside, nothing spectacular or scenic. First day had little shade and was long in the heat. For the most part the rooms allocated to us were generally not the best in the hotel but were serviceable. Breakfast generally good. Unless you have romantic or religious reasons to do this walk best to walk elsewhere.
It was an excellent way to see the less popular towns in Italy. Absolutely stunning meandering through the vineyards and olive groves of Tuscany. Some stages of the walk were challenging, mainly due to the rain, or the other extreme the heat but so worth the experience. The accommodation was great and satisfying breakfasts. GPS was user friendly & informative of the places of interest on route. Highly recommend to do it!
Wonderful to be able to walk amongst the vines and olive trees of Tuscany and feel the country. Suggest add swimmers and travel towel to packing list so might swim in the streams along the walks. Being able to swim and enjoy a cocktail by the pool at the accommodation places is also a delight after a hot day walking.
They were a great company to deal with when organising our recent walk through Tuscany. From the moment I contacted them they were prompt to reply, professional and always very helpful. All the arrangements went smoothly and the local organisation, GPS maps and information were easy to use and invaluable when we were self guiding. I would use this company again and highly recommend them to anyone else.
The trip was everything we hoped it would be. The hotels were of good standard and nicely varied in location and ambiance. The baggage was always there when we arrived. We liked that we did not stay in busy locations and enjoyed the local feel to some of the villages and towns.
The walk was challenging at times but overall was a fantastic experience and we were satisfied we achieved it. Beautiful scenery, clearly marked trails, detailed and easy to follow route instructions, good accommodation (some was a bit quirky) and no issues with luggage transfers all contributed to a great experience.
